UK’s new Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) launched as part of UK / EU deal
Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) will gradually replace existing European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC)
UK residents will now be able to apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), the government announced today.
Under Britain’s new agreement with the EU, UK residents’ rights to emergency and medically necessary healthcare will continue when travelling in the EU. This includes medically necessary treatment for a pre-existing or chronic condition.
Current European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) are valid as long as they are in date and people can continue to use these when travelling to the EU.

Australia, New Zealand, some Crown Dependencies and overseas territories (such as Isle of Mann, Jersey, Gibraltar), and some Balkan states (Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo). Different proofs of eligibility are required under these agreements.
As the above poster stated please take out insurance it’s never been a cover all card. Good that it stays the same but it’s not the NHS abroad. You will pay if it’s serious.

I'm guessing its call Global because

Of course you will only see things that we had before. Mainly because we negotiated a deal, for better or worse with the EU. We have yet to formalise negotiations with many other countries. When we do, you will then see the benefits that you can't/don't want to see at present. |

As you well know, legally we couldn't put any trade deals into practice until the end of the transition period.
Benefits from deals in place will not show up in a few days and take months to work through.
Will any deals we have or have in the future be better than those with the EU? Only time will tell, because that will depend on the negotiations with which ever country. However they will be negotiated to our needs and preferences rather than trying to please 27 others. Therefore they will be beneficial, rather than having to abide by some obscure, to us that someone else throws into the ring with no benefit to us at all. |

But still take out travel insurance as both don't cover everything. Always have done."
Yes was always advised to take out insurance with the old card so no difference with this apart from it being valid in more places than what we used to get |

So when we were in the eu..we had no say whatsoever..but now..we will get the best if every deal?"

The deals will be weaker due to our smaller barbering power and our rush to do them. The best we can hope for is continuity.
I can come firm we are losing thousands every week due to increased costs trading with 17 European countries that we didn’t lose before Brexit.
Can you tell me and other exporters when those extra costs will end just so I can relax a little? We don’t want to price ourselves out of the market.
Looking at the huge gap opening up on freight rates between Europe and the U.K. from China, I suspect there are going to be a few more businesses hurting big time.
The gap according to Lloyds list is now $4k. Seems the Chinese aren’t too bothered about a level playing field either.
Just my opinion but kicking us when we’re down comes to mind. But think it through. It’s now more expensive to import to the U.K. so would you want to invest here?
Still, onwards and err well... onwards anyway!
