Happy New Year everybody. I hope this year is awesome for you all.

I believe I saw the phrase Politically Homeless or something similar yesterday and it got me thinking that is how I feel.

I don’t feel at this moment that any political party would be where I belong. (granted it’s a turbulent year)

Does anyone else feel the same?

I’ve been politically homeless all my life . My idealism has never been accommodated on this craggy rock .

Perhaps now if enough politically homeless find a common ground a new concept could be formed ..

It’s a hugely slow process , just look how long democracy took to be implemented in this country ..

Now that one of the most sinister manipulations of an electorate by any government would appear to be complete , there is always scope for a reprisal.

Guevara wrote ..

“ Revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe , you must make it fall “

How deep is your despair at being homeless.. what would it make you do ?

Where would you like to go . What would you like to see happen ?

I'm not sure I feel politically homeless as it's hard to see where labour are going, but as I suspect it's more towards the centre,I'd feel less affiliated towards them.

Whilst it's True that even a centre labour party is preferable to the current shower,I feel a lot of people would feel this way.

Maybe the greens may pick up a lot more votes..I quite like that caroline Lucas.

Take one or two of those blind policy tests. The ones you pick your preferred policy on a number of issues without knowing which party it belongs to.

A bit of fun at least.

You’ve become disaffected, when the world has turned on its head and you don’t know where to go?

You are at your most vulnerable now, because it could lead you down the path of extremist thought.

Will you know the difference though?

And where did you see that comment?

Felt like this for a while. The lack of identity in the UK has led to some really toxic politics that benefits no one but those who currently hold power and influence. With the country setting up new trade deals, I feel using our current political setup will do more harm than good.

For a democracy to be successful, most people should be politically homeless. The moment you emotionally attach yourself to a political party, you feel the need to defend them when they make mistakes and find fault with opposition even when they do something good. In an ideal democracy, politicians should be fighting with each other for people's votes. People should not be fighting with each other for politicians. Unfortunately, the latter seems to happen more and more these days.

If you feel politically homeless, it means you speak what you feel is correct without showing favouritism/hatred to a particular party/ideology. I have been like this for the last 3 years. Guess what? I have never been mentally more peaceful in my life. Keep it up. Just before election, check the manifestos, candidates and track records and vote for the one who you think aligns more with your values. Delay your decision till the last moment.

Steal away! It's good to see that I'm not alone in my thinking.

People are confusing votes with competence and popularity with success which has meant that glaring faults are swept under the carpet.

There is a lack of identity in the UK which has lead to a very basic, short-sighted politics where every political action is late, knee-jerk or a U-Turn.

The reason people keep voting in this manor is to avoid the real problems that we saw surface over 2020.

Extremists is a word used by those in power to intimidate people from looking at the issues.

LGBT+ is considered extremist.

BLM is considered extremist.

SNP is labelled extremist by Tory government.

The word is more a label on the person using it as it identifies what they fear.

The Brexit party were extreme, so was UKIP. But they both carried a lot of weight, had a huge effect on politics and were considered mainstream for a while. Yet their core beliefs meant many people found it easier to go to Conservatives when these parties exhausted themselves through scandal and blinkered polices.

Can’t be bothered to check all of their current manifesto, but the greens have normally got a good list of policies I agree with.

Then they spoil it all by saying something like it will be compulsory for everyone to wear hats made from organic Kale on Wednesdays or something.

Edit - just checked, they want to give 16 year olds the vote and devolve power to local councils, yikes. Our local council couldn’t run a whelk stall. So no, they won’t get my vote.

Thought I'd bump this after today's PMQs.

It was embarrassing! Boris Johnson, stupidly yet correctly highlights to Keir Starmer that Marcus Rashford is "doing a better job at holding him to account than the opposition."

This is how ineffective our government setup is: that a footballer manages to find the time to have a meeting with Chartwells, travel to Burnley for an away game then wake up the next day and have a call with the PM.

If you think that this is the best government we've had, simply because of the electoral mandate they received last year then you need your head examined...FAST!

Boris Johnson is out of his depth, Keir Starmer is giving him a pass and there are no clear alternatives due to both the PM and Leader of the opposition surrounding themselves with loyal but incompetent allies.

Stockport

I've been voting for more than a few years now. When i was young and naïve there were a couple of elections where i didn't vote because i felt both that there were no issues that concerned me, and there was no natural home for me with any single party.

Since my late twenties i have voted in every election, national, local and european - and almost every time making my cross for a different party to the previous time. I feel that i have only ever been able to choose between poor, bad and worse parties. My vote has consistently gone not to anybody that i felt would be good in power, but only to the ones that i have felt would be least bad at it.

If there was an election tomorrow? There is nobody currently active in politics that i feel has any interest in the best future of the United Kingdom. One side is full of people i regard as outright criminals who do nothing but embezzle public funds. The other side is full of people that would stab their own granny for political advantage over each other. I fail to see anybody honest in the middle, as the vast majority of the British people have consistently refused over at least a thirty year period to vote for anybody who dared to speak truth.

I feel that i have no political home, and furthermore that i no longer even have a country that i recognise as home.

"I've never voted Tory but have also never felt more alienated by Labour

Almost the same. Blair alienated me more from Labour than Starmer though.

Identity politics for me. And for a lot of my friends too

Yep same for me "

Funny, 2 people from the LGBT community (whatever that is) and we both loath identity politics

Politically homeless?

Well it does seem now that many traditional labour voters are on the move to a new conservative house - which is even allowed under a full lockdown lol.

They will have to either get used to losing or ditch the red flags and join the Green revolution.

Well maybe like the Libs or the Greens they will just be happy with local issues at a local level because National Governance is never going to be theirs.

It's a bit like Corbyn's fence-sitting on Brexit, at times you just have to make up your mind and go with it.

Split the party, have a left leaning party and a centrist party then form a coalition government

I can't see it for the Greens for a while yet. Maybe when we are up against a climate change that materially change our individual lives at a close-up and personal level but . . .

People seem to be forgetting the Conservative party turned

A 65 seat lead (1992) into a 253 deficit (1997) in only

1 general election.

Never get to high & mighty in your success.

There will be those who will remind you of where you were.

Enjoy the peak for now tories .

Another day will come

Very true. Most dangerous thing is to take voters for granted. Wonder when Labour's day will come- been waiting years

Very true and in time it will, every country needs a good alternative to the sitting government. However currently labour are a shambles and until they, the unions and hard line supporters realise the world has moved on it wont get a sniff of power, that isnt good for the country. The funny part is many of the left here say the leave voters want to return to the old days of empire yet they wan want to go back to the Micheal foot days and beyond.
