Sunday to get this sorted, we still don’t know what’s happening.
Is it?
- Deal we are getting shafted
Or
- No Deal we are getting shafted
Is it trade or sovereignty?
Does having sovereignty mean we can become a offshore tax haven with ultra low taxes for the rich?
Or
Does trade mean we can have a trade agreement which can bring in money which will end up in the pockets of the rich?
Whatever outcome ordinary people are getting shafted some how?
Let’s just agree on that.

As the harsh reality of brexit is looming
that’s not to say BoJo can’t pull a rabbit out of the hat at the last second.
Maybe like a lot of things in life sometimes it’s better to say you got something wrong.
Yes it is probably political suicide but far better to do that have your legacy as someone who promised so much yet could deliver so little.
Admission of failure is not a weakness but the opposite. It shows you have the strength of character to change. |

The vote in 1975 was on whether the UK should remain in the European Community. Every country and region with the exception of the Shetland Island and Outer Hebrides returned a yes vote..
The UK actually joined the EC 01/01/1973.
If you thought that the UK was joining the EC in 1975 then you clearly did not know what you were voting for. |

The vote in 1975 was on whether the UK should remain in the European Community. Every country and region with the exception of the Shetland Island and Outer Hebrides returned a yes vote..
The UK actually joined the EC 01/01/1973.
If you thought that the UK was joining the EC in 1975 then you clearly did not know what you were voting for."

Here's a prediction of how I think things will pan out after January 1st.
There will in all likelihood be a programme of deregulation, liberalisation, competition, loosening worker rights, free trade, migration and privatisation on a massive scale. I think it will be beyond anything that has been openly talked about yet.
There will be an increase in the flexibility of the labour market, relaxing things like minimum wage increases and rights for self employed and casual workers compared to employees.
The economy will be have very low rates of tax to encourage inward investment. Hence the idea of freeports, enterprise cities, Zones of Employment and Economic Development will become common place. Farmland will quite possibly be repurposed for this.
We will rejuvenate industries that have died but we won't be overly fussy about our trading partners, with US, China and India being very important. Expect quid pro quo deals. I wouldnt be surprised if we move for Unilateral Free Trade, that way we could be anything on the world market tariff and quota free.
We will have to be flexible in how we use the new immagration policies and accept that we will need to allow appropriate immigration beyond what most anti-immigration Brexit voters hoped for. Without it the economy won't be able to flourish the way it needs to. This could be done by giving the health service, farms, universities and key economic sectors substantial visa quotas.
It is going to be difficult and challenging journey whatever happens.

The EU are losers?
Let's just be blunt here.
They are the ones who are producing the bulk of the vaccine we need to buy.
They are the ones who are close enough to us to supply large shipments of that vaccine on ice.
They are the ones who supply the food we cannot supply ourselves, they are also close enough to supply fresh food to us without it mouldering.
We are the ones who have lost a beneficial free trade deal.
We are the ones who have not replaced any of the non-EU trade deals we are due to lose with anything better.
Japan, Canada - these deals were renegotiated and we have less benefits via these from when we were in the EU.
This isn't self defeatist language, this is just reality and what the government you support has agreed on.

I know you don’t give abuse bud respect that about ya I’m still thinking there maybe some sort of a deal probs last minute as must EU deals are but for the first time I’m thinking a no deal is a reall chance now don’t ask me what a deal will look like because like us all we just don’t know but know matter what happens I won’t be panicking it’s not going to be as bad as COVID |

I know hindsight is 2020, but I think most politicians in their hearts knew Brexit would be an absolute minefield.
As there are 40 years worth of treaties to unravel.
What should have happened was a single person should have been given the job of negotiating with the EU before any letter of withdrawal was issued.
The UK government could then claim we are negotiating our withdrawal from the EU by effectively kicking it into the long grass.
That person would have had a job for life as all they would have to do was issue a statement every 6 months or so saying how they had secured a great deal on Marshmallows or rabbit food etc.
It would have still honoured the result of the non binding referendum.....  |

As there are 40 years worth of treaties to unravel.
What should have happened was a single person should have been given the job of negotiating with the EU before any letter of withdrawal was issued.
The UK government could then claim we are negotiating our withdrawal from the EU by effectively kicking it into the long grass.
That person would have had a job for life as all they would have to do was issue a statement every 6 months or so saying how they had secured a great deal on Marshmallows or rabbit food etc.
It would have still honoured the result of the non binding referendum..... "

A massive hit to GDP according to most analysis.
Holiday queues.
Farming knackered.
Motor industry knackered.
Having to pay for 50,000 customs officials that cutting red tape has necessitated.
Fishing Exports knackered.
Lorry Parks.
Logisitical problems withing the UK (Exporting to NI)
Less access to security info.
Roaming charges.
Increased prices on imports due to tariffs.
Signing crap trade deals that are weighted 83% against you and tie you up to tighter state aid rules than the EU because you are desperate.

Japan, Canada - these deals were renegotiated and we have less benefits via these from when we were in the EU.
This isn't self defeatist language, this is just reality and what the government you support has agreed on.

A trade deal may or may not happen with the EU. Other trade blocks are available like the trans pacific block.

We are not self sufficient with food production - the bulk of fresh fruit and veg, additional grains and such, we import these predominantly from the EU. Last I checked with fresh fruit and veg, the bloc supplies about 50% of our demand.
The remaining 50%? That comes from our own production and the remaining trade arrangements we have from out of the EU.
Those agreements? We are about to lose the bulk of them, they were arranged for us, by the EU. So a lot of food will be subject to import tariffs - the cost passed to the consumer, as we have not secured continuation agreements with the bulk of them. This means we have to go on WTO, this means import tariffs or we can drop all of them, but then we have nothing to negotiate with, we also have to do this for all imports from all countries.
You're right, the EU are not supplying a vaccine, but we are importing it from a pharmaceutical company which has production based in the EU - so we are importing it from the EU.

Just check though, David Frost's own negotiators described the JP deal as being only 17% in the UKs favour, and 87% in JPs favour. |

Nothing really changes in here at all, does it.
All those who fought for BREXIT still think it's going to be great (despite in my opinion all the evidence to the contrary) and all those who thought it was a crazy plan thought up by a bunch of rich tax dodgers to avoid paying (despite the fact that millions of people who clearly aren't rich or tax dodgers have voted for it 3 times now) still think that.
My prediction (and it's the last one I'll ever make on here) is that come 1st January 2021 we will not have a trade deal with the EU (even if some fudge deal is agreed it won't solve many if any of the problems). There will be economic chaos which, on top of the perceived poor handling of Covid, will be the demise of Johnson. Slightly less certainly I think before the next General Election in 2024, we could see a complete realignment of British politics with the divide no longer being between left and right but between those that believe in multi national cooperation and the "rule of law" and those more isolationist who believe a nation state should not be answerable to anything other than it's own electorate.

For the food issue please see my previous reply. As for the trade deals again please show me why the UK one is inferior. The UK,Japan and Canada freely said they are virtually copy and paste deals of the EU one with some possible extra benefits for the uk. That's a hard one:
A massive hit to GDP according to most analysis.
Holiday queues.
Farming knackered.
Motor industry knackered.
Having to pay for 50,000 customs officials that cutting red tape has necessitated.
Fishing Exports knackered.
Lorry Parks.
Logisitical problems withing the UK (Exporting to NI)
Less access to security info.
Roaming charges.
Increased prices on imports due to tariffs.
Signing crap trade deals that are weighted 83% against you and tie you up to tighter state aid rules than the EU because you are desperate.

All those who fought for BREXIT still think it's going to be great (despite in my opinion all the evidence to the contrary) and all those who thought it was a crazy plan thought up by a bunch of rich tax dodgers to avoid paying (despite the fact that millions of people who clearly aren't rich or tax dodgers have voted for it 3 times now) still think that.
My prediction (and it's the last one I'll ever make on here) is that come 1st January 2021 we will not have a trade deal with the EU (even if some fudge deal is agreed it won't solve many if any of the problems). There will be economic chaos which, on top of the perceived poor handling of Covid, will be the demise of Johnson. Slightly less certainly I think before the next General Election in 2024, we could see a complete realignment of British politics with the divide no longer being between left and right but between those that believe in multi national cooperation and the "rule of law" and those more isolationist who believe a nation state should not be answerable to anything other than it's own electorate.
I with that, accept for possibly a few replies on this thread, I'll say goodbye and thank you. My time is done here.

Johnson will go and will be seen as the fall guy when it inevitably goes pear shaped.
I suppose it depends how bad things get..as a country we have lurched dramatically to the right..how will effect politics?

Boris will have to resign as PM, that's got to be a good thing for the country

With an 80 seat majority the PM does not need to resign.
