Huge problems at the UK's biggest container port, Felixstowe.
New booking in systems, pre-Brexit stockpiling and covid, has led to huge delays. Taiwanese container operator, Evergreen, redirected one ship into Rotterdam, after being told of a 10 day delay in berthing.
Operator of Felixstowe, Hutchinson Europe, has confirmed the problems but can you guess which ex Transport Secretary they hired on a £100k advisory contract? |

Then the port sends the ship back out with half of them still aboard because it costs them if the turnaround is delayed and cant get the next one in.Believe what you like but i have been hearing of these problems 1st hand all summer. |

Not being able to put empties back in the port is actually causing major headaches for the hauliers.
Customers are way behind with collections ( including me) . A lot of smaller hauliers went bust during Covid.
The problems are Christmas and backlogs from Covid all arriving at once . The Brexit implication is importers stockpiling but no idea of how bad that is.
However there is a knock on from all this. The major lines such as Maersk are out bidding the European short sea container lines for haulage which means European traffic is in a huge backlog scenario. It should ease around Christmas as the Chinese import slow down. .
The other problem in Felixstowe is the new it system which isn’t working. Great fun |

The IT is a biggest issue but the stockpiling of goods we sell and ship around Europe is compounding the problem.
Last year we had 80 containers short shipped over two weeks as the ship just didn’t stop due to delays so they have previous here.

I agree with you they’re not.
the stockpiling effecting through all ports is compounding the back log. But as I mentioned it’s main,y IT at Felixstowe.
Only DFDS ro ro is 100%european out of Felixstowe and they don’t ship containers through the port. Well not many. |

There’s a shitstorm heading our way, getting brexit done..... no matter what gets decided we’ve still got to get our stuff over there to sell it, with a non compliant populous on the receiving end, don’t care what paperwork u have it’s going to end up feet dragging... you’ve only got to look at how they’re standing by over the migrants after multi million £s to address the issue |

I'm sure that some French Fisheries Minister will come along and bribe them to lift the blockade.
Just like one did in 2009. I wonder if anyone can remember who that was? |

It's funny, I sit watching the ships going in and out of the port from my home office window. Without a foggiest about what goes on over there. |
