A poll has labour and Tory neck and neck. I don't believe in polls but surely if it's true then what an achievement. Can't imagine any party in power doing so well during a pandemic and Brexit ... but to be honest I don't pay much attention to mid term polls.

Lifelong tories arent going to suddenly change their voting habits and the red wall will refuse to admit they were wrong.

Another poll has the Conservatives ahead of Labour. given everything that is going on, only 2 points lower than they were prior to the GE seems quite reasonable.

And in another poll the Greens have overtaken the LibDems as the third largest U.K. party.

isn't it all a mute point because we don't get a general election till autumn 2024 anyway...

big difference between a poll 4 weeks out and a poll 4 years out!

If you don't believe in polls why say something is an achievement?

Why even post a thread on something you don't believe?

I agree with all of this actually. Polls so far away from a GE aren't worth paying much attention to.

But it's a fantastic achievement for the Conservative press office and the Tory party control over the media. People still think they're worth voting for despite the contempt they show for the British people, especially as you said, during the pandemic and brexit. It's remarkable.

Would that be the brexit contempt to actually do what the voters decided, unlike the lib dems who wanted to ignore it and labour who wouldnt say what they were going to do about it, of course the Tories last prime minister had tried to ignore the vote.

No a 2and one as we had only 1 for

What difference does it make which way Corbyn voted?

The country was split into 2.

A 2nd ref which gave people more background information and a clear outcome of what would happen in the event of an in/out vote.

I'm not sure I follow. But I do lay the blame for Brexit on the Tories. And they're clearly to blame for pushing towards the most damaging version of brexit.

But clearly people don't care and keep voting for them and supporting them anyway. As per the OP.

"A poll has labour and Tory neck and neck. I don't believe in polls but surely if it's true then what an achievement. Can't imagine any party in power doing so well during a pandemic and Brexit ... but to be honest I don't pay much attention to mid term polls.

If you don't believe in polls why say something is an achievement?

Why even post a thread on something you don't believe?

Just an observation.. a difficult time to be in power

When you so want the captaincy that you stab the previous leader in the back, effectively organise her downfall and then when you get the armband you take what is thrown at you..

Boris ducked it when Cameron walked away after the referendum as the penny dropped that all the promises he made were largely unachievable..

He cant duck this issue and it's obvious he's out of his depth so yes a tough time for any leader but having chopped many sensible Tories in his Brexit is all drive he has well and truly made his bed..

Didnt blair promise the job to brown aswell?

This might not be a bad thing. It should prevent the Conservative party becoming complacent and nearer to election time all resources can be dedicated to fighting another winning campaign.

. However your vote is not about what you earn. It is about having a sense of responsibility, realising that every service provided has a cost , and not being intimidated or prevented from by trade unionists or striking workers . I hate to piss on your chips but you will never pay enough in taxes to pay for what you get out of the state, you are already reliant on taxes paid by those better off than you.

They wanted more lockdown now it is happening they want less they are just showing themeselves up for what they are.Lisa Nandy talking crap again.

They should have stayed in there bunkers.

2 faced pigs

Outstanding

Are the tories still socialists?Yes"

I'd love for Jacob Rees Mogg and the other ultra toff Tories to know that someone out there sees them a socialists.

Well he couldn't get back in the car quick enough. That pretty much stifled any debate with her...

He did actually talk with her at length.

He did, looked uncomfortable, then slagged her off and went back to apologize with his tail between his legs because the press outed him...

More faces than Big Ben...

I'm repeating this since you seem to have ignored it:

He also talked with her at length after the bigot incident. And accepted the blame. And apologised.

Feels a little different to the current bunch of Tories, doesn't it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEReCN9gO14

He fucked up. He knew it. So did everybody. But he also took time to talk with her at length and apologise to her and admit he'd fucked up. Seems better than the Tories who are unwilling to accept blame for anything."

Would he have apologised if the press had not outed him.. No.. it was a damage limitation exercise ...

Visions of Brown v Bliar

No..

I think anyone looking at both objectively will find differences, brown as the chancellor wanted the top job as did Boris with may but brown did not openly with others plot be and vote to bring her down ..

Didnt blair promise the job to brown aswell?

Think it was another Tony ploy to delay.. .. Brown was out of his depth.. a mug.. given the top job when Bliar scarpered off the sinking shipBrown did a good job he is very underated as a PM.He also kept us out of the Euro the best thing he ever did

Well he did sell the gold off at rock bottom prices, launched the disastrous child trust funds and raided the tax relief on company pensions as well.. he also called a member of the public, 'that bigoted woman' ...

Great Guy... Is ability could not match his ambition...

To be fair she was a bigot.

Well she had an opinion.. bigot or not it should not be used as a term to stifle debate...

Another poll has the Conservatives ahead of Labour. given everything that is going on, only 2 points lower than they were prior to the GE seems quite reasonable.

And in another poll the Greens have overtaken the LibDems as the third largest U.K. party.

The SNP are the UK's third largest party.

The YouGov voter intention poll indicated Greens had overtaken LibDems to third place with 6%. (libdems on 5% along with SNP on 5%)"

Which means precisely fuck all in comparison to seats in Parliament - even the one we're not that keen on. LOL

"A poll has labour and Tory neck and neck. I don't believe in polls but surely if it's true then what an achievement. Can't imagine any party in power doing so well during a pandemic and Brexit ... but to be honest I don't pay much attention to mid term polls.

(libdems on 5% along with SNP on 5%)

Which means precisely fuck all in comparison to seats in Parliament - even the one we're not that keen on. LOL

The thread is about polls

My post is about a poll

You are talking about elected MPs

The thread is actually about a party in power at a difficult time... Sadly it has been hijacked by those who cannot see past their own party allegiance...

Your thread is about the polls

It really isn't Lionel.. that's your interpretation...

Good point.my mistake.you only mention the word poll about 4 times in your op."

Read again... If I say 'but' in a paragraph ten times is the paragraph about 'but'?

Note the question mark Lionel

It wasn't was it, he used it to describe her after the event..

How is that stifling debate?

Seems better than the Tories who are unwilling to accept blame for anything.

Would he have apologised if the press had not outed him.. No.. it was a damage limitation exercise ...

Of course it was. And yet he took responsibility.

Remind me, how did Johnson and Cummings act after Cummings went on his little holiday?

And this is relevant why ?"

I'm just holding up a mirror, showing you what you clearly don't want to look at.

Lionel. I have only voted in a General Election once in my life. My only heroes, apart from immediate family were Glen Hoddle, Diego Maradonna and Gareth Edwards.

The thread is about my observation that how a government, any government, during Brexit and a pandemic can stay relatively popular...

Enjoy your day
