Taken from the Guardian:
"The government is planning to “opt out” of parts of the European convention on human rights in order to speed up deportations of asylum seekers and protect British troops serving overseas from legal action"
Looks like the Conservatives have found an easy scapegoat to lessen our human rights.
Would you accept worse human rights just so Troops who have committed war crimes cannot be prosecuted?
What's next? Our worker's rights? Can't wait for American style rights where we are only entitled 10 days off each year. |

Similar to this is a US military person sentenced to 10 years for murdering a trans person, being mysteriously pardoned. The judge refused to comment on why, so we are left to assume Trump picked up the phone to make peace the all the "suckers" in the military... |

You do know that the humans rights convention was originally proposed by Churchill and written mainly by British lawyers? Churchill wanted to bring Europe together and protect individual freedoms from threats like fascism and communism.
Such a shame that modern Tories want to throw away this great achievement that Britain led the way on. And I thought the Right was patriotic.

Find a scapegoat.
Sneak a law through or lessen some rights for people.
Where I have seen that before?
Hungary seem to like doing it.
Poland has LBTQ free zones
Europe is becoming a bit shit right now.

Amazing how this has psssed without a ripple. We have many conspiracy theories how anti Covid-19 measures are a clandestine move by the government to take away our rights. And here it is happening quite overtly and no one says a word. |

Which would be all well and good if the standards we were to apply are equal to or better than we currently have..
But they won't be..
Why an 'ordinary person' thinks any reduction in such rights is of any benefit for themselves and their own is beyond stupid..

I think this has been a common argument for Brexit - Being able to apply our own rights and standards.
But in reality company bosses, landlords, and the ultra rich see rights and standards as red tape. This will diminish our rights, but will make it easier for them to exploit the workforce and market.
For example, we have great consumer rights due to being a part of the EU. We are given a 2 year legal guarantee on most things. I highly doubt we will get the same protection once we leave the EU. |

I'm still pondering why areas here that has been underfunded by Westminster voted to leave the EU given the latter has been the ones investing in said..
Then there was the GE last December ..

From all those other countries we're about to lose travel, work and residency rights to? And people buying Cornish pasties that soon anyone will be able to make.

The fact that parts of 1 of the the richest countries in Europe qualified for objective 1 status in the 1st place speaks volumes about the priorities of the gmnt.
Yes It partly comes from us but the eu distributed it where it is most needed.
The tories would happily let such places die. |

Wales and Cornwall are both in the top 10 poorest regions in Northern Europe. They both receive a great amount of EU funding.
The EU redirects funding to places where it's needed the most. All EU members make a contribution.
Do you honestly think the UK Gov will match EU funding? Do you really think, given how badly handled Brexit and Covid has been, that the Government will be able to deliver such a budget? Even during a health crisis they have pissed millions away by giving contracts to dodgy firms who have either a personal or business connection to the party. |

What was wrong with the human rights we did have? Did we have too many? Did we not have enough?
If this was a key reason then I expect you to have a very good explanation.
I wouldnt be surprised if, like many EU laws, the UK was actually quite instrumental in establishing our human rights in Europe. |

In return for access to single market etc which being part of benefits us many times more than the few billion we lose...
You really don't get it...
It's like being part of a golf club with a monthly fee of £50. Each christmas the golf club sends you a pen so you moan and cancel your membership because then pen wasn't worth £600 but forget the rounds of golf you played and the social experience. You also forget that being a member entitled you to take guests which enabled you to take clients for a game which helped secure a new contract for your business.
The golf club also had a few sensible rules but you didn't like the golf club making rules but being a respected person on the committee you were key in establishing these rules in the first place. |

Sarcasm doesn’t translate in words on a post.
This is what the majority of people wanted, if you want to make a difference, the ballot box is the only place to be heard. Ruminate on that. |

The convention of what is rabbited on about here and generally quoted by idiots does not fit the modern world. It's an allusionist narative most of the time. Usually quoted by the guilty in hope of some hopeful engaged empowerment by the alleged poor, down trodden, underprivileged and picked on. |

"Cornwall are demanding that government funding matches EU funding.
Fat chance
Where do you think the money Cornwall got from the EU came from in the first place ?
From us. Then it's reduced and what's left sent back with instructions on how we can spend it
In return for access to single market etc which being part of benefits us many times more than the few billion we lose...
Do the country's that are not net contributors get the same access and benefits"
Yes all member States get the same access regardless of whether the pay more in than they get out like Germany and the uk (when a member) or pay less than they get out like Belgium. It's not a simple subject though with many caveats |
