We just can’t carry on this way.
If our economy doesn’t grow we can’t keep up with the interest.
Now Covid and Brexit have secured a reduction in our GDP does anyone think the fuckwit and his lying followers have a scooby on how to get us out of this?

It's bizarre how nations can run up such a debt, most of the world owes bilions to someone. And what happens if we don't meet the repayments? You can't send the bailiffs in to reposess Birmingham. How much would we get for the Isle of Wight on Gumtree? |

It's an eye watering figure indeed but had to be done. I suspect there will be some sort of tax rises when the economy can stand it. I read the other day on the BBC that the interest payments on the debt is actually lower than just before the lockdown due to such low interest rates. I think the chancellor will want to make inroads into the debt before rates rise again |

Its an artificial nonsense in many ways. After all money and debt are abstract constructs. Those who have money are very keen for it to maintain it's value. Unfortunately inflation means living standards can't continue to rise without some sort of hit to the wealthy.
Soo what better way to justify lowering living standards than to create a massive 'problem' (debt) to justify lowering those standards. |

Try telling your mortgage provider that the debt you owe them is just abstract and see how far you get!!

At the moment everybody loves Sunak but this will soon change when taxes go up,fulough stops, pensions frozen for a couple of years etc.
It will have to be paid back.
Sunak is being pragmatic he knows things must change and recession must happen it will be cruel and deep make no mistake |

Maybe go after that uncollected tax from the likes of Amazon?"
Agree but all world governments have to agree to that as these companies just run away each time otherwise.
Ireland is now No. 7 in the richest country list due to Amazon and Google being registered there.
The E.U. was going after both companies and individuals not paying their fair share of tax throughout Europe . Can’t imagine why Boris and his wealthy backers aren’t keen on that!!

The E.U. plan was tax on sales in the EU and specific to each country so for example Starbucks takes hundreds of millions in tne U.K. but pays virtually no tax apart from a goodwill gesture .
The E.U. plan was they would be taxed on their trading in the U.K. and the U.K. would get that tax.
Big business is not happy and strangely The daily mail doesn’t pay tax in the U.K.
It doesn’t take to much to work out who’s side the mail will be on!

It's an argument that's commonly used.
They will take their business elsewhere..but how can Starbucks for example.. Make their money here..if they move all their coffee shops abroad.
It's the same argument about taxing the well off..well if you do that they will move abroad..the likes of that top shop owner pays hardly tax aid Is (and the Tories hired him as an economic advisor) |

My understanding (limited I grant) is at present the tax is not paid where the sale is made its paid at where the company are registered. In this case Ireland. The sales will still continue |

I'm far from an expert on it but if we are all going to get hammered, those individuals and companies who hire an army of accountants, in order to pay as little as possible,,should be held to account.

Not many would complain if the likes of Amazon paid fair tax but I think the rules allow them to register in a tax favourable country and sell where they like. If the EU can change this then a member state in Ireland will be affected negatively so bit of a dilemma |

Among other things why Starbucks dont pay bugger all tax here.
Companies and tax is a complicated issue, on the face of it Starbucks, Amazon etc should be paying far more, but as labour found with their 50% top rate sometimes the obvious doesnt work. |

See yet again you miss the point and fail use your brain to do the work to THINK about the best way to maximise government tax income, instead you make another half arsed quip, no doubt another will follow this post.
If you want to have an adult discussion about tax issues and companies then act like one and do some research and then put some thoughts out |

If they succeed what will happen to the likes of Amazon ect?"
They will e forced to pay tax in the country if sale and not raise an invoice from one country to another to reduce tax.
Must if the big shopping lines in the world have a registered office in Denmark because they only pay 3% corporation tax ( this is a few years ago so may have changed)
Maersk built an opera house in Copenhagen and donate to various charities in Denmark but the 3% they give to the Danish is such a huge sum the Danish government are very accommodating just like the Irish with Apple.
This is what the E.U. we’re trying to stamp out.
The other side is the tax evasion of rich individuals living in the U.K. and the rest of Europe. The E.U. are going after those to make them pay their fair share.

"Bet there’s no cutbacks in the number of MP’s or Lords. We could save a few quid having a cull.
Long overdue with the lords!
Maybe go after that uncollected tax from the likes of Amazon?Agree but it is not easy and will take years
The EU we’re making a start which is why the mega rich in this country backed Brexit. They knew it was coming and needed an escape plan. How good we’re the British voters to give them one.

Sounds a fairer way. Why has it taken them so long. It could make Ireland and Denmark not so attractive in the future and less revenue for them |

As you say if the taxes paid in the country of sale that is fairer though not just Europe. If this happens will they have any reason to stay registered in Ireland anymore |

And were instrumental in us getting out of Europe.
It is heart warming however to know that a millionaire businessman who pays fuck all on tax..treats his employees like shite..is not only knighted but hired by the gmnt as an economic advisor.
Makes you proud it does. |

Facebook to pay €106 m8llion euros in back taxes
Seems that individual countries will set there
own tax deals , as the EU couldnt unanimously agree .
So much for the EU setting our laws !!

President Macron has come to a deal with Facebook over their version of a digital tax.
It threatened to get messy, with the US threatening to tariff French cheese and wine in retaliation. |

Trying to stop its citizens from eating &
drinking what they want.
