It made me laugh, No 10 tries to put its own man in charge of the Security Committee, tries to wrongly influence the vote & they get beaten by the one person who is actually qualified to do the job - another Tory, but one with a backbone!

As the Times said, installing Grayling would have been like replacing James Bond with Johnny English! Bit harsh on JE really, given how useless Grayling is.

& now BJ throws his toys out the pram and removes the ‘whip’ from Julian Lewis. He really is losing it, useless at PMQ and doing what Dom wants

The Russia Report will be published next week.

However, it wasnt a rigged election. The Conservatives, being the incumbents, hold the majority of members. Julian Lewis persuaded the other members, Labour and SNP, to vote for him, thus thwarting the election of Chris Grayling.

Grayling has made a career out of fuck ups.

The fact that they want him on the chair of the intelligence committee goes to show the contempt they have for us.

yep, they wanted grayling and Lewis got the other parties to vote for him to thwart grayling and the government. Same democratic paradise as its always been, bet this ain't the first time a certain person was shoe horned into a position and it won't be the last, happens every day in normal life as well not just politics.

according to Dominic grieve who wrote the report there is nothing in it explosive and no reason that the government has sat on it, other than to try an get one back on him as he was a vocal remainer at the time and a thorn in the governments side.

Because in my mind yes its shit and its corrupt and has made them look stupid but you can't compare it to Robert mugabe and Zimbabwe let's say for instance, that was corruption on a massive level and total disdain for the people whom he ruled over. Howeecer we sell ourselves as the bastion of free speech and look down at the likes of China and Russia.Yet a few months ago no 10 tried to ban several journalist from a press briefing as they were considered too critical.Johnson himself avoids practically any form of scrutiny and gmtv has been blacklisted as Morgan was too brazen.

I will add that i not defending them by the way but I don't think its right to make out its only the tory party who are corrupt and everyone else is squeeky clean.

There has been corruption for time immemorum.

In the past gmnts have at least tried to hide their wrong doings..this lot do it out in the open as we have a docile electorate who simply don't care.

So yes without a doubt..this is the most corrupt inept gmnt in living memory. well that's your opinion mate but when I think of other governments such as the one I mentioned (Mr mugabe) I don't consider this lot in the same league as him sorry, and I will add too that for all the wrongs in the UK we are a bastion of free speech compared to the likes of China, all the blm marches and stuff that's happened here recently would never have happened there, they would have got the booldy tanks out again. I think a lot of the electorate doesn't care about certain issues, only what personally effects them and I doubt that a cross party committee would be high up on there list for sure.

You are seriously comparing us to Zimbabwe?

I should have specified in this country btw."

i was using Zimbabwe as a example of a truly corrupt leading party after what you said, but if you are now saying only this country well thats different, still don't know if i would call this lot the worse so far but yeah Deffo up there on the list.

"It made me laugh, No 10 tries to put its own man in charge of the Security Committee, tries to wrongly influence the vote & they get beaten by the one person who is actually qualified to do the job - another Tory, but one with a backbone!

As the Times said, installing Grayling would have been like replacing James Bond with Johnny English! Bit harsh on JE really, given how useless Grayling is.

& now BJ throws his toys out the pram and removes the ‘whip’ from Julian Lewis. He really is losing it, useless at PMQ and doing what Dom wants "

This is what post Brexit democracy looks like. We’re so much better than the corrupt EU.

Are the lobotomised tory electors going to wake up one day and realised they’ve be conned or are they going to sleepwalk? How can these idiots in the gvt even consider Grayling?

Removing the whip from Julian Lewis? Good move I say. After all he did work with Labour Members for his own ends.

Well isn't that just like asking members of your own team NOT to kick balls into your own goal!

I'd be pretty well annoyed too - and I'd make sure he never played for the A-Team ever again. Regardless of who they put in the job.

And let's just remember most MP's dont' have ANY real world employment experience. So experience usually only ever comes with doing a job that they have never done before.

Not false. However it’s also nice to see that some MPs also stick their head above the parapet and don’t just go with the flow like many other MPs who don’t make any waves to build their little career.

On a different note, how can a guy like Grayling be in contention? It beggars belief. At least Lewis has done his country a favour.

Firstly, the PM cannot chose who Chairs this Committee, 2013 Law says it is the choice of the Committee alone and they should not havebeen trying to influence.

Secondly, JuliennLewis actually does have experience to lead the Committee. I believe Gove was saying only people with experience and expertise should get the important jobs.

Thirdly, Failing Grayling shouldn’t even be on the Committee given his lack of knowledge, experience and expertise. He has shown that in every single job he has done he has f#ched up big time. In the real world he would have been sacked and be out of a job, not just rolled over to something new he can fail at! Jobs for the boys?

Removing the whip was an act of spite, from a childish muppet, annoyed at not getting his own way.

However, it was the right thing to do - because Lewis is now truly independent from his party and this government.

The Committee is meant to be free from influence from the government and the security services it oversees - in order to prevent the sort of abuses that went on in the past, in the UK; and are considered standard practise in the likes of China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, etc.

Bear in mind that your PM is Boris Johnson, your Home Secretary is Priti Patel and your Foreign Secretary is Dominic Raab; then feel grateful their involvement in the security of your country is kept under observation and review.

It also shows how much this gvt is playing by the rules... or not. Cummings, the illegal prorogation, the contracts given to their mates, The Grayling saga, the delay in publishing the report on Patel, the Russian interference etc... No doubt that Brexit is synonymous with the resurgence of democracy in the U.K. They’re whiter than white.

Gove says only experts will get the top jobs. Failing Grayling is clearly no expert in anything. Julien Lewis is actually an expert in hisfield of Defence and Security, but BJ wanted an idiot in charge. As usual, somewhat contradictory from the Govt. What is really interesting here is that even MPs who could normally be expected to back BJ are starting to turn against him. He needs to dump Cummings and remember he was democratically elected to lead a Government, not to be an autocrat...

To be honest, I don’t really care anymore how people feel about being called lobotomised. Cretins, fools etc... I could just about live with a Tory gvt and its dreadful cuts from 2010 to 2016 that have imposed so much poverty on so many people.i could also live with the middle of the road tory party that we have in the 90s and 00s. They were still a respectable party with a conservative approach to society and economics. Not my bag but nothing utterly repulsive. Nothing govelike, nothing patellike.

Now after Brexit and the shitshow served by this bunch I couldn’t care less if people feel insulted by these comments. The vast majority of brexiters are clearly uneducated, bigots, deluded morons who are naive and nostalgic of a past that is long gone. Their binary and oversimplified version of everything is simply appalling and shameful.

It should be this country’s priority to make sure that people get a better education, have a more international approach to problems, have moral values and aspire to a society that works for everyone. When we have done so, we may end up having politicians who will have to please and appeal to higher caliber of voters instead of trying to appeal to our tabloid readers and their lowest instincts. The thicker a country is, the more vulnerable it is and the more shallow and useless its politicians are.

And I couldn’t care less if this comes across as arrogant. I shouldn’t be ashamed of telling morons that they are morons. Telling them is doing them a favour.

The brexit referendum was built on a tissue of lies and is going to make us much poorer as a country.

We should have been told the possible consequences 1st and then given the option of staying or leaving. If that would have happened, and we would have voted out, every single person would have accepted it.

Instead we were given a choice with no information resulting in people voting for different reasons.

It was a total cluster fuck.

"

im just saying it how i see it as someone who dosent have a party to vote for.want brexit vote tory want brexit stopped well insteqd of voting for lib dems who would of stopped it in its tracks everyone who voted remain decided to spread there votes all over the place...very strange.and yea it was a 3 word slogan. but obviously worked.lets face it only about 10% actuakly look at a partys manifesto.just amazes me people think this corruption is a new thing has been goung on as far back as i can remember

I am saying he is showing himself upto be not a good leader at all.

Final nail for me was he was so spinless after the race riots in the U.S.A

He failed to call out Trump, as it is the U.S which are our allies and the internal working of the U.S And not a sociopathic crazy wackjob

race riots in usa? why should we comment on whats going on there? think it was antifa and middle class white democrats doing most of the rioting seen a few vids on youtube of black people telling them to get the fuck out of our neighbourhoods.and sorry i didnt realise its only under trump that police brutality has become a thing.none of it under obama though eh? he was in for 8 years you would of thought him being a black man he would of done something about instutuional racism in his two terms wouldnt you.and for a racist country he sure done well to get elected twice.its staggering how he managed it if the u.s is that bad

Agreed, they screwed us over Lend Lease, nukes, overseas bases, Iraq, etc. Whilst we have a ‘common’ language and some similarities in outlook, America First and MAGA does not support a close relationship with the UK

Have the brexiters forgotten that the tories had a majority at the time. If the Tory MPs had voted for May’s deal, the whole thing would have been fairly quick. But no, the ERG, the Johnsons, IDS and co didn’t want it. So blaming the opposition is farcical. Lying over the same thing again and again doesn’t make it true.

Just like the post match interviews. Week in week out. Never changes.

'If we had played better we would have been promoted. If we'd have scored more goals we'd have won that game . . .'

Ad-infinitum . . .

Brexit. We are out. No matter what team you are on. There aren't any Brexiteers left. There are only Brexit winners and Brexit losers.

The government are up for elections in four years. The bad guys lost or the good guys lost.

People. Live your life between. Better yet you have four years to canvas your team into office.

(This has been a non-partisan message from the get real party).

Agreed about living your life in between.

But no the match is not over. It’ll never be until we rejoin. And I’m certain we will. Not tomorrow, not in five years’ time but common sense will prevail. The bigotry of this gvt is exposed everyday. This country will find its senses again.

Telling them is doing them a favour.

sorry i will re phrase that yourself can call people what you want your not trying to win there votes.wen your a politician and trying to win votes its probably not a good idea to tell people we need you to vote again because you was to stupid to vote the right way last time.not exactally a great qay to get there vote is it?

The brexit referendum was built on a tissue of lies and is going to make us much poorer as a country.

We should have been told the possible consequences 1st and then given the option of staying or leaving. If that would have happened, and we would have voted out, every single person would have accepted it.

Instead we were given a choice with no information resulting in people voting for different reasons.

It was a total cluster fuck."

I seem to remember we was told the consequences of leaving on a daily basis during the referendum. Instant recession, punishment budgets ect ect. Even a pamphlet to every household. After all that the vote was leave. Since then we had 2 elections. First both Labour and conservative promised to honour the vote and got 80 percent of the vote. Then last year another GE where Tory was clear leave, Labour second referendum and lib dems overturn.

Do you seriously want to compare the lies told by the 2 sides.

If we left we were told we would economically suffer.

Something the home secretary confirmed a few months ago.

And something which is hardly a distant possibility.

Labour was clearly between a rock and a hard place over Brexit. It must have cost them a lots of votes.

I think it’s fair to say that this as well as Corbyn’s image are the main reason the election’s result.

At least, now the tories have a clear majority and we’re out. So when things go tits up, they won’t be able to blame Europe, Labour or the Lib Dems I wonder who their next scapegoat will because they can never take ownership of their own crap.

"Oh I might add that Labour promised way too much - even simple thinking people thought it 'suspect'.

A tight and focussed election might have made all the difference.

Most of their policies made perfect sense..living wage, nationalisation etc

They lost because of brexit and corbyn was painted as some sort of antichrist.

You need to wipe off those rosy glasses lol and go remind yourself by reading back issues of ALL media outlets at the time and post of the election.

And also remember that Corby has posh roots too. Posh upbringing. Posh School. yadda yadda yadda . . .

Literally no idea what you are on about.

What's being posh got anything to do with it?

Are you saying he got an easy ride in the media?

So..you can only fight for workers rights if your dad was a chimney sweep?

"Are the lobotomised tory electors going to wake up one day and realised they’ve be conned or are they going to sleepwalk? How can these idiots in the gvt even consider Grayling?

see this is the problem calling peeps who voted tory lobotomised.the reason the torys got voted in is because everyone who voted leave had 3 years of certain labour and lib dem m.ps callung them thick, racist uneducated amongst other things so all those perps though fuck it you aint getting my vote.look at trump getting elected.do you think hillary calling people deplorables helped get trump elected? when you talk down to people they will fo the oppisite of what you want them to do.main reason i dont vote on anything is no matter who they are they all lie and are in it for themselves first and foremost

Telling them is doing them a favour.

sorry i will re phrase that yourself can call people what you want your not trying to win there votes.wen your a politician and trying to win votes its probably not a good idea to tell people we need you to vote again because you was to stupid to vote the right way last time.not exactally a great qay to get there vote is it?

The brexit referendum was built on a tissue of lies and is going to make us much poorer as a country.

We should have been told the possible consequences 1st and then given the option of staying or leaving. If that would have happened, and we would have voted out, every single person would have accepted it.

Instead we were given a choice with no information resulting in people voting for different reasons.

It was a total cluster fuck.

We was told...Ouch!

Labour was clearly between a rock and a hard place over Brexit. It must have cost them a lots of votes.

I think it’s fair to say that this as well as Corbyn’s image are the main reason the election’s result.

Any donkey with a blue rosette would have won it.

At least, now the tories have a clear majority and we’re out. So when things go tits up, they won’t be able to blame Europe, Labour or the Lib Dems I wonder who their next scapegoat will because they can never take ownership of their own crap."

So you agree the different parties all had clear outcomes for brexit then and choose Tory.

So possible consequences then?

On one side

We were told the eu would be begging us not to leave.

We were told other countries would be begging to do trade deals by us.The easiest trade deal know history. The bus,Turkey,20 Years of bullshit from the mail and the rag.david Davis and his individual trade deals. All lies.

And on the other we were trade we would suffer economically if we left.

Bit of a disparity no?

Tbh though 'im not one of those people who go with "the people were lied to 'argument.

People voted to leave.

Let them live with the consequences.

Totally agree they messed this up big time insulting people though slightly disagree just the politicians had an influence as some of the public activity repeated it to their friends, family and work colleagues. I saw it several times on programs like question time where the audience openly insulted others just for having a different view.I guess the poster has nothing left to loose now after looking every vote.

Telling them is doing them a favour.

sorry i will re phrase that yourself can call people what you want your not trying to win there votes.wen your a politician and trying to win votes its probably not a good idea to tell people we need you to vote again because you was to stupid to vote the right way last time.not exactally a great qay to get there vote is it?

The brexit referendum was built on a tissue of lies and is going to make us much poorer as a country.

We should have been told the possible consequences 1st and then given the option of staying or leaving. If that would have happened, and we would have voted out, every single person would have accepted it.

Instead we were given a choice with no information resulting in people voting for different reasons.

It was a total cluster fuck.

Earlier you claimed we was not told of the consequences which is untrue. I was saying we were told. I did not mention lies told by either side did I ?

I can't see where I said anything about consequences.

No one knows the consequences which was why it was such a monumentally stupid fucking thing to do.

Look further up this thread (also in light grey on this post)

You wrote "we should have been told the possible consequences first then given the option to leave or stay" well we was told the consequences as I pointed out earlier and you confirmed. How can you claim we was not told when we clearly was and still voted to leave

Your missing the point but at the same time proving mine. You said and then later tried to deny that we was not told of the consequences. That is clearly untrue. I did not mention claims made by the leave side did I? I did point out that remain told us daily of the consequences which I would fully expect them to. Trying to deny that happened seems very strange

Brexit.

To rejoin could be harder than leaving as far as persuading people. I maybe wrong but I think all new members have to join the euro and of course we would not get the rebate anymore.

Exactly and I hope they’ll make us go for the whole thing. We’ve managed to get pretty much everything we wanted out of the Eu but it was ever enough. Rebate, no euro, no Schengen but the U.K. keep whinging and whinging.

These things were said by the then PM and chancellor. Why do you say those things never happened when they clearly did. It was dubbed project fear by the leave side or are you denying that too?

When we have done so, we may end up having politicians who will have to please and appeal to higher caliber of voters instead of trying to appeal to our tabloid readers and their lowest instincts. The thicker a country is, the more vulnerable it is and the more shallow and useless its politicians are.

And I couldn’t care less if this comes across as arrogant. I shouldn’t be ashamed of telling morons that they are morons. Telling them is doing them a favour.

sorry i will re phrase that yourself can call people what you want your not trying to win there votes.wen your a politician and trying to win votes its probably not a good idea to tell people we need you to vote again because you was to stupid to vote the right way last time.not exactally a great qay to get there vote is it?

The brexit referendum was built on a tissue of lies and is going to make us much poorer as a country.

We should have been told the possible consequences 1st and then given the option of staying or leaving. If that would have happened, and we would have voted out, every single person would have accepted it.

Instead we were given a choice with no information resulting in people voting for different reasons.

It was a total cluster fuck.

Ok I get you.

I said we should have been told the possible consequences and you said we were?

I agree to a point but we were also fed the lies I mentioned above..and no deal was never brought up as an option so I suppose it depends who you believed.

My point was a simple one however. We should have been provided with all the information before the referendum took place.

Not afterwards.

Exactly you confirmed it then tried to deny it. As said before I did not mention the lies told by both sides. No deal was brought up by the remain side so again we was told. The information available at the time was provided by both sides and as said the remain side repeatedly told us about the consequences. What specific information do you think was missing? Since the referendum and with more knowledge we had last year's election and the result was to continue

No deal was never mentioned.

The chancellor could have come out beforehand and said jobs will definitely be lost

We could have been told the turkey story was nonsense.

We could have been told that the process of leaving would be a long arduous road which would leave the country in 2.

We could have been told we couldn't do individual trade deals and we could have been told the £350m was total bullshit.

We could have asked what "taking back control 'actually means

We could have been told about the EU's desire to close tax loopholes.

Do you think we were more informed before the referendum than we are now?

But we were told those things repeatedly by the remain camp. Massive recession as soon as a leave vote happened, millions of jobs going abroad as companies relocate to name a few. These things were said by the then PM and chancellor. Why do you say those things never happened when they clearly did. It was dubbed project fear by the leave side or are you denying that too?"

What about project golden wank with all that dosh for the nhs, the easiest deal in history, the EU collapsing once we’ve left, the French desperate to sell their wine, other countries queing for a deal and I could add fifty other things?

And also the pound would collapse. Another lie obviously as a holiday on the continent costs you now 20% more than on the day of the referendum. What’s not to like???

These things were said by the then PM and chancellor. Why do you say those things never happened when they clearly did. It was dubbed project fear by the leave side or are you denying that too?

What about project golden wank with all that dosh for the nhs, the easiest deal in history, the EU collapsing once we’ve left, the French desperate to sell their wine, other countries queing for a deal and I could add fifty other things?

Sorry I was debating with the other poster and did not mention about the claims made by leave. He claims the remain side did not speak about the claimed disadvantages of leaving. I seem to remember those clearly being set out by the PM and chancellor at the time amongst others. "

My original point was that the leave campaign told more lies than remain

Telling them is doing them a favour.

sorry i will re phrase that yourself can call people what you want your not trying to win there votes.wen your a politician and trying to win votes its probably not a good idea to tell people we need you to vote again because you was to stupid to vote the right way last time.not exactally a great qay to get there vote is it?

The brexit referendum was built on a tissue of lies and is going to make us much poorer as a country.

We should have been told the possible consequences 1st and then given the option of staying or leaving. If that would have happened, and we would have voted out, every single person would have accepted it.

Instead we were given a choice with no information resulting in people voting for different reasons.

It was a total cluster fuck.

It was dubbed project fear by the leave side or are you denying that too?

I notice you never mentioned mo deal

Like I said it came down to who you believed..but you are right The remain campaigned was labelled as project fear."

All those things you mentioned were spoke about by the leave camp repeatedly. How can you now claim they never happened? You acknowledge project fear well that was all about the claims you said never happened. You can't have it both ways.

"And also the pound would collapse. Another lie obviously as a holiday on the continent costs you now 20% more than on the day of the referendum. What’s not to like??? "

"LONDON (Reuters) - The Bank of England took steps on Tuesday to ensure British banks keep lending as the financial consequences of the country's decision to leave the European Union began to materialize, especially in commercial real estate.

The BoE, which is trying to cushion the economy from the June 23 referendum result, said it would lower the amount of capital banks must hold in reserve, freeing up an extra 150 billion pounds ($196 billion) for lending".

Thank you for the admission. So yes I think certain things have been shown up since 2017. However as mentioned with all the new information we had a GE where the 3 main parties clearly set out their plan for brexit. Tory was so clearly go ahead with it, Labour favoured a second ref and the lib dems wanted to cancel it. So everyone could choose once again and had a party to vote for that agreed with them. The result was a Tory win

No, we were not told that all the Brits who live in France and Spain would lose 20% of their pensions overnight. Who gives a toss anyway as these traitors left the world beating UK.

It was dubbed project fear by the leave side or are you denying that too?

I notice you never mentioned mo deal

Like I said it came down to who you believed..but you are right The remain campaigned was labelled as project fear.

All those things you mentioned were spoke about by the leave camp repeatedly. How can you now claim they never happened? You acknowledge project fear well that was all about the claims you said never happened. You can't have it both ways.

I'll be honest my memory of the remain campaign is they were not very vocal however after doing some reading both cameron and Osbourne did warn us of the economic consequences.

I'll happily take that back.

So I'll ask a 3rd time. Are we more well informed now or in 2017?

Thank you for the admission. So yes I think certain things have been shown up since 2017. However as mentioned with all the new information we had a GE where the 3 main parties clearly set out their plan for brexit. Tory was so clearly go ahead with it, Labour favoured a second ref and the lib dems wanted to cancel it. So everyone could choose once again and had a party to vote for that agreed with them. The result was a Tory win"

What do you think would have happened with a 2md referendum?

Were we told that if you have a dog your pet passport won’t be valid anymore and that in jan 2020, you’ll have to take your pet to the vet at least four months before you go to the continent? What’s not to like? It’s so convenient.

The result was a Tory win

What do you think would have happened with a 2md referendum?

I don't know is the honest truth. I had started to come around to the idea of having one but the GE seemed to be the closest we would get and especially as the 3 main parties offered the 3 main options.

I think it would have been close but remain would have edged it.

Which would have caused more problems tbf"

Very possibly

Were we told about what would happen to the three million EU citizens who live in the UK and all the Brits who live in the EU? Another tiny detail. What’s not to like about millions of people not knowing for two years after the referendum what would happen.

Were we told that the institutions of the U.K. would be paralysed because of Brexit and that we wouldn’t deal with anything else in this country but Brexit? Not really. EmTwo days to sign the easiest deal in history. Only took four years. What’s not to like?

Yes"

The real question is why did the remain camp not make a better job of highlighting these concerns?

You seem to be referring to things I never quoted.

Feel free to lie but do you remember May negotiating with Barnier the fate of these citizens with nobody knowing what the outcome would be. Did you ever hear about settled status before 2016?

No, the real question is what we werenot told or led to believe would be a walk in the park.

Where we told what would happen to the subsidies British farmers used to get from the EU? Another detail. These people still don’t have a clue.

You may have heard the words EU citizens but what were you told about them exactly? I’d love to know.

Yes the farm issue featured a lot. You seem to be asking about claims the leave side made. As I said before I was not making claims on these I was simply saying the remain side did point out repeatedly the potential problems of leaving. If they did not get their message across very well then that is for them to explain

Were we told that workers’ right would be at risk of being altered? What’s not to like about this? Of course you can always fool yourself and think that Johnson and Trump are going to make workers’ right better and not worse.

Your addressing a different issue again it was for the remain side to do this. I do seem to remember discussions on workers rights

It was a surreal experience for me. I remember going to bed on that night and last I saw on the news was a prediction of a 52 to 48 victory for stay. In the morning put tv on and saw the banner at bottom of screen saying 52 to 48. I thought wow they got it right but then my eyes focused properly and see it was leave .

That's true enough loads of bewildered people people trying to come to terms with it. The EU leaders looked shocked and some expected a second vote quickly
