A cynic may think he has done this to absolve himself of any responsibility for the current shambles so far?

Not me though.

Nice of you to think of us. The truth is, we Scots have been the authors of our own misfortune for centuries. Even now, as many as 28% of us vote Tory.

As for the headline of this thread:

Control of the crisis is a team effort and it looks like the government may be on course to have no virus fatalities by the end of June ( according to Professor Carl Hendeghan an epidemiologist from Oxford University). We should be thankful to the government for leading us out of the crisis and achieving this result. Our handling of the crisis and deaths per million of population are not very different to other European countries.

The general public would appear to agree . Support for the Conservatives is still 10% ahead of Labour ( though the result of an opinion poll should be qualified with the note that the only result that matters is that polled on the day of an election.)

Right, Brexit, he brought that on himself. Look at his time as a journalist. Spent years writing complete rubbish about the EU. He was instrumental in convincing many to vote leave and now wants a no deal. Remember, he had two articles ready to print after the result, one for remain and one for leave. He only went to the leave side to aid his attempt at being PM.

The pandemic....he went on holiday for two weeks in February, just as we were on the cusp of a pandemic. Ignored the warnings from Italy, let Cheltenham go ahead, the football matches and told people not to go up the pub but didn't shut them. An article in The Telegraph estimated a week earlier lockdown could of saved 30,000 lives. He ignored the advice, shook Covid patients hands and caught the virus, putting NHS staff at risk due to his stupidity. Only yesterday he said he was 'taking direct control' of the crisis, we have the highest death rate in Europe and he is proud of our success.

Nobody expected them to get everything right but they ignored warnings and thousands have died as a result. You might be ok, thousands of families are grieving for people that should not of died. You may be ok, I'm glad. If you can call this successful leadership.....good on you.

What I don't expect from a leader is a constant stream of lies to cover up the equally constant stream of failure.

What I don't expect from a leader is apathy even about delivering the lies, so instead we get a rota of unqualified suits to lie on his behalf. Suits that are all only in place because he sacked all their semi-qualified predecessors.

What I don't expect from a leader is desperate avoidance of scrutiny at every possible opportunity.

60,000+ people are dead in case you hadn't noticed. That means people are going to question the people in charge. Those grieving families deserve answers to be delivered with honesty and integrity. Is that too much to ask?

BTW, can you chuck an occasional space into your posts? They's almost impossible to read!

I think every government in the world has made mistakes, no one is perfect. It is only human nature that mistakes will be made.

What is more important is being honest and taking ownership of the mistakes, and admitting you tried your best but got it wrong and then learning from the mistakes.

What is not acceptable is the blatant lying / misinformation, denial of mistakes, reluctance to be scrutinised, avoidance of tv interviews, the manipulation of figures /statistics or disregard of them when it suits their own political gain.

For a 'leader' to say that they are so proud of their record on Co-vid 19, when on the same day the UK had the highest death toll in Europe, shows that they are either arrogant, delusional, in denial, over-whelmed or not in control of the situation, or ill.

Yesterday we not only the highest daily total in Europe but we had more deaths than the combined total of all the other European countries. A sickening fact.

Is Boris fit, has he really recovered both physically and mentally, from the effects of Covid, or is he trying to struggle on?

Ok, you should be able to name his single biggest achievement? Don't say Brexit, he basically put May's deal through. He actually, in effect, voted against his own deal when she put it through. So Brexit, he has achieved nothing.

So, come on, give us that earth shattering piece of policy or legislation he has produced.

So, no achievements then? You seem very angry, almost like somebody who feels they have been conned. I don't blame you, I blame those who have lied to you and think you are stupid. You are not.

The key phrase there 'act on your own interests'.....see, some us worry about others, that's why catastrophic decisions from the top, need to be called out.

The government's own figures around coronavirus are misleading according to Sir David Norgrove of the UK Statistics Authority. Hardly MSM.

The gmnt have consistently lied their way through this crises..and even still..best case scenario we still have one of the worst death rates in Europe.

Yet people still want to point the finger at the media.

Its quite desperate.

No, Johnson needs to do better. He spent months convincing the nation that he's the man for the job and he's under-performing. If "could you do better?" is the best his supporters can come up with then...wow..."

But he was voted in as the man 'to do Brexit', he wasn't voted in to actually save people when things went bad.

Or alternatively Jeremy Hunt or Rory Stewart might have been better leaders and done things a little better? Have you seen the re-emergence of Rory Stewart's interviews from early March? A guy who was involved in managing ebola in Africa.

Why didn't Boris know what to do in a medical crisis? Because he scrapped a team of senior ministers (Threats, Hazards, Resilience and Contingency Committee (THRCC))charged with preparing the country for a pandemic six months before the outbreak of coronavirus in the UK, so that civil servants and ministers could focus on Brexit.
