Why is the world's richest most powerful country and the bastion of democracy, civilisation and the 21st century so broken?

It's only two of those things. Maybe that's why?

Also, it has a government, not unlike our own, which is more than happy to divide its citizenry by means of massive inequality, using an electoral system which makes it easy for them to do so; even if they do not secure the consent of 50%+ of the electorate.

There system is very different and the UK and British governments are in no way alike.

You need to check a hell pf a lot of facts

Once you start to use fear and anger to win an election you're lost.

It's the easiest path to victory though.

Then once in power, however marginally, you do not even make the pretence of trying to do what's best for everyone.

Then you're lost.

Amazes me just how broken the place is. For all their glitz and glam they still haven't got around their original issues.

Sad to see it all unfold on the news.

With our system I don't think there has ever been a government of any party that got 50 percent of the electorate

Wonder if the poor dont like seeing the rich get richer, but theres no class system as in this country,i thought it was the land of opportunity if you dont make it tho, theres not much hope for you,and really everyone is not going to get there, some pick up a gun, others give up,work harder the thing is its never going to be utopia for all,but theres still people wanting to give it a go,its how the world is i think, and as a last idea the more poor people going there means more unhappy people wanting change, and so more riots and unrest

Indeed. Which is one argument for changing it.

This may have been true in the past, bit not now.

There absolutely is a class system in the US.

There is old money and there is privilege.

You can make good here just as in the US with as much ease or difficulty from a humble background.

There is just a myth in the USA that anyone can make it.

People are seeing this to not be true.

There Electoral Collage system makes it possible to buy your way in.,

In one region Hillary Clinton did not get a win a single local vote out of 52 counties.

The state Democrats announced she’d won the right to run for president anyway. That’s definitely not democracy.

In addition the college system is biased towards the southern states as a hang over bribe from the civil war.

America is not a democracy.

The U.K. is not a true democracy. When was the last time you voted for an MP who had lived in your constituency before running?

They are chosen by head office of the party.

Our local councils are blamed by central government for cutbacks but it’s central government that’s cutting the money.

Local councils should be made up of local people and no national parties. Every town is different and has different needs. What’s good for Henley on Thames is definitely not what Middlesborough needs.

So why do we have national council policies from Labour,Conservatives and Liberals. It makes no sense!,

America is in no way one of the best countries in the world. Bastion of Democracy- the world is full of democracies!

Wealthiest- If you do simple math, what they have minis what the owe, they are in a minus figure. They accuse of China devaluing their currency, yet China owns trillions of American debt. America Manipulate the dollar.

America is excellent at one thing for sure - starting wars.

The United States - tell me what is actually UNITED?

Its more of a human rights issue. That video of George Floyd was really hsrd to watchand turn over when shown again. The general state of Inequality is appauling.

Multi billionaires at the top while some struggle with the basics, food, housing, health care

couple, us we him her.

Institutionalized racism, institutionalised ignorance

A mentality as relevant today as it's always been.

The UK is no better, America is high profile and in a shocking state . The reason these things are more in focus is due to social media and recording devices being more available ,if people think that this shit going on is new then you really have no clue.

Sadly I can't see it changing.

I have been the victim of a severe racist attack in the 80's by the then called national front because I dared to be hanging out with Asian and black friends.

But as a white man I can move away and carry on and be in the lucky situation that something similar is highly unlikely to happen again.

A black person has to live with this fear daily and it's not right.

People shouldn't be judged by the colour of their skin but by the substance of their actions.

Unfortunately I think that lot's of people are jumping on the " black lives matter" band wagon just to score points rather than being genuinely invested in it.

However the more people who get behind peaceful protest trying to bring about meaningful change the better.

Sadly the world's most powerful and probably ignorant man is going to cause more problems than he can solve.
