As we approach 30,000 deaths in the UK, should Johnson be held accountable when this is over.

His leadership skills are next to zero, and some of the advice given has been deplorable.

Planes still flying in and out the UK with no checks what so ever.

Shaking hand with coronaviris patients, wtf was that all about.

Take it on the chin

Herd immunity

Failure to prepare having watched it spread from China

Having champagne delivered to number 10 when 100,s are dying everyday

The list is endless, a blundering baffoon so far out his depth.

He has made mistakes as has every single leader on this planet so answer is NO.

It is how we do overall and how he handles things over next 5 years.

There is no way any government could have forseen this. The country did I feel start slowly but is beginning to come good,he will be tested in many ways over next few years, more than any other peacetime leader in history probably.

I am sxure your negative attitude is not shared by the majority but I guess your one of ythose people that hates Johnson so much even if he was a 100% successful you would criticise.

The country needs accountability, not people who just sit back and accept the situation.

There is a reason why we have the highest death toll in Europe and second highest in the world.

He is accountable via the ballot box in this country.

He is personally accountable too but there is no mechanism to act on that beyond his sense of responsibility and shame, so don't hold your breath.

I would assume if that happened here it must also happen in many other countries

If not legal and your opinion is held by the majority then at the next election Sir Kier will win a huge majority

So this contact tracing app that they will be using, you're happy for a private firm and the most centralised state in Europe to keep hold of your data even after this blows over?

Cause that's where that line of thought leads, a crisis is always a good time for business in political operations and politicians to consolidate power. And it'll likely bite the average person in the arse later.

Is an excellent piece in new Yorker.com about the UK and its government’s actions, which have been abysmal.

The last point made is how in the UK you accept overlords- the Queen enters it only when her son becomes ill, the PM only becomes engaged with the infection when it is about him, and the celebrations at the weekend will divert attention.

In short, ‘a distraction from mistakes that can never be rectified’.

Yes Bojo shouldmbe held accountable and also his cabinet. But knowing him he will very likely do another disappearing act.

Him and the cabinet all need to be held accountable. Has the Chief of the defence staff has said there were no plans to cope with this and the supply of PPE was a joke.

There was a study carried out in 2016 indicating what would be necessary to be prepared and WHO guidelines since 2009.

The Chief of the Defence Staff saying that we were no plans makes it clear that nothing was done about this.

Germany has not claimed that there was no shortage of PPE.

Our government spent weeks doing so. Essentially saying that medical staff were deluded or wasting equipment.

I think both are important

yes for sure the dealing with it is very very important and more so while we are still in it

I have no idea who started it but I do think its very important to find out to help it not happen again.

If they do not learn from the mistakes they will just be repeated at some point.

In other words dont let it start in the first place

I agree with your sentiment but not the tone, which I know wasn't deliberate.

"Who started it" is an inappropriate question.

It implies blame, which means nobody shares so we don't learn anything.

That is not how you deal with global problems that require solutions.

They have closed down a nightingale hospital for 4000 why not use that for what it is designed for a send covid patients there instead of gen hospitals.

They cannot even count truthfully saying 120000 tests when they knew it was 80000, trust them with your lives at your peril

My reasoning in knowing how it started is not to blame but to learn in order to prevent it again

maybe I am wrong but I usually go with prevention is better than cure

The people who should be accountable for this are the ones who planned, designed and released the virus.

The question of the origin of the virus is secondary to its causes and a distraction from the abysmal handling from Westminster. It will be found out if if has been modified but it mutated again in March to a more infectious strain, putting vaccine studies back.

Westminster was warned in January. It had the chance to see how Chiba performed. It then sold PPE to other countries. Herd immunity was the preferred choice, meaning an early return to work and a chance for the economy to perform better than many others. It seems to me their plan is still based around that. In short, Money matters, people do not.

Totally agree this is not the time to look at the origin as enough problems already

I hope but don't expect the origin to be looked at in better times

Unless its proven beyond all doubt that it was deliberate I would not seek to apportion blame

However let's say in the future its found it originated in country xyz and that country does not take steps to prevent it happening again then we all have to go through this again. Also many would say why was it not investigated and rightly so

As said its not about blame its about helping to be safer in the future

It is not a competition to see which county has the highest numbers of deaths. All the keyboard warriors who think they know better are making their assumptions with the benefit of hindsight.

If however you are trying to rank performance by country a much better indicator is to look at excess deaths. Analysis by the Financial Times shows that Italy's excess deaths are 90 % above average , Belgium 60 % Spain's 51 % with England and Wales 37 %

In the circumstances it looks like the government are doing a pretty good job. We should also note that only 332 people under 45 have died

All countries have made mistakes.

This sounds like a free pass...and let's be honest, he's had a few.

The fact remains is that if he was more decisive at the point when he was talking about shaking hands with people, I think the numbers wouldn't be as high as they are now.

This is not about liking or disliking someone. There isn't an election around the corner. This is about being capable of doing the job you was elected to do and he will be held accountable. Not because he's Boris Johnson but because he's the Prime Minister of the UK!

There is so much speculation about where the virus comes from but the fact is that everyone in positions of power will be backtracking and blaming others for their dismal performance in dealing with COVID-19 and I am afraid that however you spin it Boris and his cohort have done a fairly crappy job at controlling the situation. Brexit and the power hungry right wing muppets it elevated to positions of influence was more important to him back in 2016 than assessing the failures of preparedness highlighted by the pandemic test that was carried out then. He failed to address it then and now we all all teetering on the brink of a depression of potentially enormous length and depth he still doesnt get it and is trying to end lockdown early. Unfit for purpose will be an epithet applied to him and many of his cabinet in the future.

I wouldn't regard him as negligent, certainly he's incompetent and hopelessly out of his depth.

Let's face it, he won the election because of Jeremy Corbyn and Labours attitude towards Brexit.

Covid-19 is just showing the level this government's operating at.

As has been said before, yes judge him on his overall performance but the only way he will be held accountable is via the ballot box.

Of course now he has a ready, and up to a point viable, excuse for underperforming.

The enormous deficit he will have lumbered this country with for the next two generations.

However the electorate had ready voted to leave the EU . A vote for Boris was a vote on which to build a sound economy in order to improve certain areas of public services . The policies as presented by Labour would simply have destroyed the economy and left even less to spend on public services.

The 80 seat majority was a great endorsement of Conservative party policy.

This person illustrates how effective the anti-corbyn propaganda was.

Hats off to the Tories and the Media. They did an amazing job.

"Does boris actually get prepared for PMq?

He well and truly had his arse handed to him by Starmer..

It was actually embarrassing.

It was like he had just rolled out of bed and was just bumbling through answers while starmer just nailed him on each point.

I really liked Corbyn but I actually think he was too decent a person to actually go for the jugular at times.Soneone with a legal background will not do that."

To be realistic it is much easier to ask a question than to answer one.

I would guess how you perform at Prime Ministers question is probably irrelevant. What matters is what the electorate think of you and crucially how many votes you can pull on the day of an election. That is the only true measure of someones performance.

Recent opinion polls indicate that a significant number of the public believe Boris is doing a good job.

Let's see what happens at the next election.

It is good to see people criticise Boris as it is a constant reminder that you can never afford to take your eye off the ball and that nothing should be taken for granted in life.

The Prime Minister always knows what questions are going to be asked at PMQs.

They are sorted in advance, so that the PM can have a briefing paper.

What else could he do?

Go full on remain..which he didnt believe it and lose the north.

Go full on leave and he lost the young/liberal vote.

He advocated a 2nd referendum which was the most sensible course of action.

Add into to the total savaging in the media,he never stood a chance.

Yes. The anti EU sentiment had been built for 20 years in this country. Sustained by a campaign of misinformation.

People still believe that Brexit is in some way a good thing, even with absolutely no evidence. It's a religious-like belief in something.

So all Johnson had to do was get a catchy pro-brexit catchphrase. Implement a very successful smear campaign on Corbyn and Labour. Boom. Job done.

I'd say a massive chunk was about Brexit with the nhs coming a distant second.

Labour were viewed as being weak on Brexit but people forget the Tories were just as divided.

I thought the 2nd referendum was by far the most sensible course of action but as said above people fell for that simple slogan.

Massive chunk sounds about right. That does rather confirm it was as close to a second referendum ever likely to be granted

Think Jezza was in the same position as Theresa May when trying to get her deal through parliment. in the middle of the road being hit by both sides

Hi. You might need to look at the bar chart on page 6 of today's Times. Deaths per million are higher in some other countries so we can assume the situation is under control. If you want an insight read pages 6 and 7 and in particular the section on population density .

Totally agree. Wish Corbyn had been in power. Okay, so the number of deaths would have be 2 or 3 times more, but at least everything would be free !

Boris's purge in getting rid of anyone who was not a rabid Brexiteer only served to emphasise the mess labour were in..

Not sure given this crisis if losing some of those experienced tory ministers is now being seen as the wisest move but this wasn't in the horizon and brexit was the only game in town..

"The country needs accountability, not people who just sit back and accept the situation.

There is a reason why we have the highest death toll in Europe and second highest in the world.

It depends how figures are counted all countries use different methods. An example Italy is not counting deaths in care homes."

Actually they are, or have been since April on a national level. Hence why I just used a data set from April 2020 in a report detailing confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Italian carehomes.

The only omission is that in some situations a test was not done or symptoms were not associated with COVID-19, and do they are counted separately under unconfirmed deaths.

This latter figure is miniscule in comparison to the confirmed figures.

In short, shove that notion somewhere where misinformation can't spread.

No way will it get as high as johnson..that spell in the hospital will ensure that."

Hancock is toast as soon as this is done with. He'd be gone already but there's nobody competent to replace him with.

All the competent Tories were booted out of the Cabinet after the last GE, to make room for pro-Brexit glove puppets. So, it's no surprise at all the current Government are not really handling things well.

They're all power hungry careerists, utterly out of their depth when confronted by an issue with stark, real-world consequences that they can't bullshit their way through.

Although, as long as they can keep bullshitting their fans in that special 40 to 45% of the electorate, they're laughing.

This is an indictment of years of Tory rule, Boris is the bugger who is one of long list of Incompetent Tory leaders.

But we cannot blame him fully for this. We need to also need to blame the electorate who voted for the tories.

Also we need to blame the Labour Party for keeping Jeremy Corbyn as a leader which prevented the electorate to vote for an alternative way forward.

So in short,

We are all to blame for this and we should all be arrested for gross negligence.

Too simplistic. Tory Government runs an excercise to see if Britain is ready for a Pandemic (2016), report is not published, results not discussed, NHS and Care Homes not prepared. So yes, Covid 19 was not foreseen, but a Pandemic was. This Government took its eye off the ball, leaving Britain, especially the elderly and in Care far to vulnerable. Those in power since 2016 couldhave done much more to ensure we wete prepared for this. Far fewer people would have died. It is right they should be held fully accountable for this. In business you could argue for Corporate Manslaughter, in Politics they just shuffle Ministers around and we all get fucked!

This..

Yes there were financial implications with any preparedness for when this came, but to leave the care sector in the dark with some of the most vulnerable people in society who are now dying in thousands is morally reprehensible..

And on a day such as today the bile inducing clichés are trotted out by the very people who's role is to protect its citizens..

Maybe you need to compare deaths in the UK against other counties and adjust for population density and the numbers who would have died anyway.

The number of people under 45 who have died in the UK is very low .

If we start analysing deaths in care homes we will find that many would have died shortly from other causes in any event.

Did the 2016 report predict how likely a panademic was to happy and if so when.

Just as you would not stop travelling because there was a small chance you might be killed in an accident , you cannot justify devoting endless resources to something that might just happen . It is of course very easy to justify endless planning with the benefit of hindsight and after an event has happened.

Every country has taken a different approach and we have no means of telling which one is correct.

Maybe pat you need to look at the death rates over and above the averages for the past five years, the Ons data..

We won't fully know for about a year if we can actually carry out any meaningful comparison with other countries..

What we do know know is that of the 30 plus thousand, about 7000 are from care homes..

For anyone to use the excuse that they don't know how many may have died when in the past 5 weeks the toll of covid and other deaths is 42000 over the five year average is sickening but normal for the like of yourself with your any price is ok to preserve your ideology and protect the party..

The report was not to do with prediction, given there had been ebola, sars etc it was only a case of when..

It was about what to do and the tories did not do it..

Society is judged upon how it looks after its elderly and the vulnerable and thus far whilst they have done some things right on the care homes and the residents therein they have and are failing them..

That those facts seem OK with you is telling..

Shame on you..

See, politics is not some kind of a silly, idle, philosophical conversation around the table with a glass of wine, at an ivory tower. P o l i t i c s are the decisions that powerful people make, which have a direct impact on people like you and I.

So in our case p o l i t i c s (i.e. the decision to treat coronavirus with mockery and nonchalance while being fully aware of the hundreds of people who were dying of it in other countries) have cost lives. So yes, those with the executive power should be held to account.

The feedback from NHS and care staff is that there has not been adequate PPE, they are underfunded, understaffed and exhausted.

The feedback from strategists is that this was for seen and no effective contingency plan was put in place.

Countries that followed the WHO guidelines (produced in 2009) and the advice on this specific outbreak have the lowest infection and mortality rates.

What questions do they have to answer?

How is the Government not to blame? It wasn’t the WHO that hid the 2016 report and failed to put in placeits recommendations...

“ Too simplistic. Tory Government runs an excercise to see if Britain is ready for a Pandemic (2016), report is not published, results not discussed, NHS and Care Homes not prepared. So in our case p o l i t i c s (i.e. the decision to treat coronavirus with mockery and nonchalance while being fully aware of the hundreds of people who were dying of it in other countries) have cost lives. So yes, those with the executive power should be held to account. "

"This is an indictment of years of Tory rule, Boris is the bugger who is one of long list of Incompetent Tory leaders.

Yes to all that, but we as the electorate have to put those parties in power to manage our country. Therefore those who voted Tory and for Brexit are just a culpable.

I read it that the poster is suggesting that people who voted Tory and Or Brexit have contributed to a poor response to the pandemic.

I think we should just stick with May’s Cabinet and BJ’s Cabinet. They made the decisions, or lack thereof and should be held accountable

I assume because we've missed out on the support from the EU.

I'm not arguing that point, because I haven't read up on it.

Or maybe it's because Brexit is costing the economy £130 billion a year. That could otherwise go towards furlough payments, or some PPE, or test kits etc.

Again I'm not arguing this, we knew Brexit would ruin the country but no one knew there was a pandemic around the corner, so it's hardly a fair critisism.

People who voted Tory though, they voted for a party who laughed and cheered when they defeated a bill to give healthcare workers a fair pay rise.

I understand it maybe not your opinion and you are trying to guess what they meant so thank you

the figures you give about the 130 billion - are these fact or speculation?

May I point out that we are in the transition period so any figure is not valid as nothing has changed. The situation with our finances in the EU are the same so I disagree it would have helped at this time.

If it was next year and your figures were correct then you would have a point - thing is its not next year it now.

The assistance offered by the EU was of course welcome but as sated in a briefing this week everything offered we got without EU assistance. Always nice to be asked though

Unless you have a time machine I dont see how you can say the long term outcome of brexit. Myself im not sure either but I would not make such a sweeping statement.

if you do have the time machine maybe you could help with the cure to the virus - oh and the lottery numbers would be nice too

thanks

The £130 billion is an estimate.

https://fullfact.org/europe/online-cost-brexit-net-contributions/

No one knows the full cost. The point is that a lot less money, somewhere in the billions of pounds, is not available where it would have been.

Sure, no one knows what will happen in the future. But all of the evidence and information available points to a less prosperous UK out of the EU.

We know getting punched in the face is going to hurt. We don't know how much it will hurt.

There’s no definitive figure for the economic impact of Brexit

Anyone could say any figure they like but the fact is we do not know. Its good to remember that many times these figures do not take into account action taken by the government to help.

as mentioned in my previous reply nothing has changed as we remain in the transition period so the money situation is the same. No more no less.

Brexit has happened, this does not magically transform it form a terrible decision, into a good one.

Are you suggesting that with some information available to you, that you are unable to predict what the outcome of your actions would be? If you want to walk to the supermarket, you can walk out of your abode and turn towards, or away from the supermarket. I'm suggesting that using the knowledge of where the shops are, will help you predict the outcome from either choice.

Anyway we're getting sidetracked. If you're suggesting Brexit is a good idea then we're at a loss.

Im saying maybe badly that its a forcast. It is no more than that and one of many

By the money I mean as we have a transition the economy/ our ins and out to the EU have not drastically changed. When the transition ends that may be different.

I fully respect you think it is the wrong way but others feel the opposite.

"This is an indictment of years of Tory rule, Boris is the bugger who is one of long list of Incompetent Tory leaders.

Yes to all that, but we as the electorate have to put those parties in power to manage our country. Therefore those who voted Tory and for Brexit are just a culpable.

Just to be clear

are you saying if you voted brexit you are responsible for this virus?

The virus is all over the world. What did they vote for that caused it in their countries?

I read it that the poster is suggesting that people who voted Tory and Or Brexit have contributed to a poor response to the pandemic.

Quite a statement then given brexit was voted on by people that support all parties

Why Brexit? why did someone that voted brexit get the blame?

We don't know how much it will hurt.

so as suspected speculation

the reports conclusions start:

There’s no definitive figure for the economic impact of Brexit

Anyone could say any figure they like but the fact is we do not know. Its good to remember that many times these figures do not take into account action taken by the government to help.

At the time The then EU finance person

as mentioned in my previous reply nothing has changed as we remain in the transition period so the money situation is the same. No more no less.

Please remember the virus cure and lottery numbers lol

I am torn by this as in one way the 'lets blame and insult everyone and everything on those that voted brexit' continuing is suprising given its concluded but joyus as the same mistake continues to be made.

It's more than a speculative number. And there has been a huge loss to the economy,. What do you mean by "the money situation is the same"?

I fully respect you think it is the wrong way but others feel the opposite.

its because lack of funding to the NHS over many years by both parties.

how can this gov be responsible for this.should, could, would of ? this virus is new so who are the experts? .either way dammed if they do dammed if they don't.

Excellent solution there, all the none brexit people to leave. However we've lost our freedom to live and work in the EU. Any other ideas?

Oh and virologists are the experts in viruses. So if it's true that the government would be "dammed if they do, dammed if they don't", why didn't they follow the advice and lockdown two weeks earlier and immediately implement testing?

Why did you throw in "Corbyn" and "snowflake" into your post?

The Tory government has been in power for the last 15 years.

Are you saying that they had no responsibility for NHS funding over this period?

There was also a study on readiness for an epidemic that was not acted on in 2016.

There has been a WHO protocol on what actions are necessary in a pandemic since 2009. Those countries that followed it have the lowest infection and mortality rates regardless of what China said or did.

Tories weren’t in power in 2006/-2008 i remember the recession and meeting a few of these idiot pm’s on tour.

Blair is a joke and should be in prison but that’s my personal opinion.

With the virus it’s stupid people looking to blame others in this country instead of working together coming up with solutions. All I’m saying is that (WHO) should of done their own independent investigation in to the virus.

Lack of funding NHS all parties are to blame. We should concentrate on our own country before being any other countries charity.

Corbyn was mentioned on previous comments, work and live in the EU simple same process if you were to live or work in America or OZ,,

The virus situation strange one at the beginning it was related to being like the flu and not too serious, i for one and I’m sure alot of people didn’t think much of it,

Only good thing is what will come from this bad situation/ is anything that happens in the future then Lockdowns and restrictions ie Air Travel, any movement should be implemented right away.

No one should go against that decision due to what’s happening now.

You are correct. My maths brain is in neutral today.

The Tory part has only been in power continuously since 2010. A decade, not 15 years.

They have not had any time or opportunity to do anything for the NHS in that time.

They had no control over acting on the WHO protocols available since before centering office or the advice on pandemic preparedness available in 2016.

I really don't understand how being in control for 10 years allows you to share responsibility for failure with others. How long do you have to be in charge before something is your responsibility?

The WHO should have done their own investigation? It is only allowed to work within the rules set out for it as agreed by every country in the UN. It cannot do its own thing.

Giving other countries "charity" means that they will be better educated and healthier so that there is less chance on conflict and refugees and terrorism and disease spreading to us. Increased economic prosperity also means bigger markets for us to sell to.

Try to think bigger.

Exactly. Prior to brexit you could just rock up to any EU country, register to pay tax and crack on. Regardless of your age.

Now I am unable to do that, and am stuck here, despite how much you want me to leave.

Besides, do you really want a UK entirely populated by people who think Brexit is a good idea, where no one challenges authority, no one asks any questions?

Exactly, for some reason the media are hotly engaged on criticising and being negative, which is very easy to do. The ‘sheep’ as usual are taking it as ‘read’ and even those that aren’t still moaning about the last election result and Brexit etc are blindly going along with it and all self appointed experts it seems. It’s amazing that few nations have escaped devastation no matter what methods they’ve used. When you see how some people behave despite restrictions and advice, it’s no wonder it’s hard to control the spread. At least most other countries have some respect for their law enforcement as opposed to the constant bayyke they have in the uk due to having to ‘be nice’ to those that least deserve it sometimes.

I don't understand what you mean by the first paragraph.

The WHO cannot "investigate" any country without a mandate. That's how it works. There are some rules that they have to follow. You do get that, right?

I also have no idea what your second paragraph means. If you have some "secret" information which explains how educating and providing medical provision in other countries does us more harm than good then I'm all ears.

I can only agree with stay safe which I reciprocate to you and everyone else.

Good that you understand that the WHO shouldn't be used as a scapegoat, although you will continue to hear people doing so.

Have you considered the wiser benefits to us of spending money abroad? You don't seem to have an argument against what I said were the benefits other than belief.

Is it at least possible that spending some money abroad could help us save much more at home?

The Daily Mash Summary:

'Is your bullshit no longer working?

11th May 2020

HAVE you been getting by on vague, waffling bullshit for years, but suddenly it’s not doing the trick?

Do ambigious platitudes and sketchy promises no longer allow your audience to hear whatever they want to hear, but instead leave them confused and demanding clarity?

Are your speeches now having their contradictory promises and idiotic optimism forensically pulled apart by not only this disconcerting new Labour leader but your normally loyal friends, the right-wing newspapers?

Bad news. It seems as if, after years of never being held to anything you say because you’re charismatic with fun hair, you’ve stumbled into a situation where facts are important.

And while your natural instinct is to say everything’s great and everyone should do whatever they want, for some reason – possibly this pandemic nuisance – it seems your audience prefers the truth even if it’s bad.

Worse, you’ve already fired anyone even capable of taking responsibility so it’s just you and those rising numbers that everyone pays such attention to which really aren’t helpful.

Don’t worry. Remember, you can always do what your old school chum David Cameron did when things got difficult, and quit without any personal consequences whatsoever.

So relax! None of this is really your problem. Let someone else fix it.'

There's many world leaders as well as others that should be held accountable for all the unneeded deaths happening, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that no one could have seen this coming. Well, the fact is, they have known this was coming for many decades, but didn't prepare for it properly, and when it did happen, the idiots in charge acted as idiots do, they denied the warnings of danger until it grabbed them by the ass. Now their playing the blame game.

First of all, China should have closed it's borders at the first sign of this virus, to try and protect against more spreading coming out of the country than already had occurred. The other countries should have closed their borders

immediately after. Then looked for any cases that had entered each country and closing off an area big enough to contain any spread found, be it a town, city, county, province, state, or region. All other areas could have functioned relatively normal until the virus was crushed in those areas. Most of the worlds population could have been mostly unaffected, and the economic strain could have been greatly limited on the countries.

They know what should have been done, they have known for decades, but they didn't, they just chose to wait, hoping for the best. Leaders aren't suppose act like idiots, their put in a leadership role to plan for the worst scenarios and hope for the best outcome possible given the type of

situation. Not to wait and see how things go, that's absolutely idiotic !

"We're over crowded. Simple as. Full up. Easier to spread the virus.

Our government must think that way as well, highest death rate in europe.

Think a lot of people think that along with this country having no respect for authority, we are a do what we want nation, too many do gooders over the years with human rights argument now means people do what the heck they like and it gives free reign as there is no punishment, we are always complaining what about us, what about what we want and so do as they please with total disregard to others.

So you linked people doing good and people having human rights to your perceived failings in teh judicial system?

How bizarre.

Has the decrease in the number of pirates caused climate change? "

I’m saying that we have changed the country in ways of respect for authority, the message stay at home didn’t work as we are no longer used to being told what to do and yet now they say don’t say home we complain about that, we don’t listen because we don’t have to as there’s no punishment if we go against what we are told. I use the term ‘we’ do not to cause anyone an itch lol. When I was young oooh all those years ago people were scared of the police like they still are in the likes of Spain that’s why they controlled the virus better there as people knew if they went for a jolly at the beach the guardia would be kicking their ass.

"There is a reason why we have the highest death toll in Europe and second highest in the world.

Yeah, that’ll be because the U.K. records all covid19 deaths whether it be in hospital, care homes or community deaths. Other countries don’t

Stop trying to compare apples with oranges"

Just one problem there, it's the other way round if we counted All covid deaths we could probably pass America's total.

The current fine for breaking lockdown rules is £3,200.

I still don't know what this has to do with people doing good, or what it has to do with human rights.

I don't have any experience with Spanish police, so I don't know if you're claim is true or not. But personally, I am against police brutality.

People doing good is doing what they were asked ‘Stay Home’ to help stop the spread while the NHS got in a position to cope but some people saw this as against their human rights and went about whatever they wanted with disregard to others in spreading the virus. I didn’t mention police brutality, I’m sure nobody wants that, my ass kicking comment wasn’t actually the police physically kicking someone...really?!? Kind of think you know that but hey ho lol, it would be fines that would more often than not be on the spot, no if’s or but’s.

What absolute balderdash! This country has a long history of civil unrest and there is an argument that allowing freedom of debate and thought made this country great and helped prevent greater rebellions than we have experienced in the last few centuries of having our parliamentary democracy. The trouble is that blanket statements like all poor people are thick and abusing the system just make the people who say things like that sound a bit thick!

Who said all poor people are thick? I’m talking about people having respect for something that could potentially saves lives.

"So this contact tracing app that they will be using, you're happy for a private firm and the most centralised state in Europe to keep hold of your data even after this blows over?"

I’d you own a mobile device you have no privacy. Don’t be so naive.

According to the BBC, over 9000 fines were handed out by the end of April. If you think this is too low, maybe this is more to do with the reduction in police numbers over the past 10 years.

Okay so we're all on the same page with the no to police brutality thing.

You were suggesting that people who are "do gooders" are part of the problem. Like you said though, people doing good and adhering to the social distancing rules, and the lockdown rules are helping. I think you're focusing on what is a minority using the phrase "human rights" as an excuse for going outside when they shouldn't. This is nothing to do with human rights.

So I don't think "do gooders" or people who advocate for human rights, have anything to do with the problem.

I’m saying we have become more of a do what we want nation regardless of the consequences and not what is right or lawful because we know most of the time nothing will be done about it. Seems we are quite unruly compared to other countries and makes me think it ms because we can be, that’s all.

Personally I am self employed and have stuck to the rules and its been tough going at times but I think the blame for the irresponsible behaviour of some cannot be laid at the door of do-gooders and a liberal society as I think those who are breaking the rules come from all walks of life! I live next door to a couple of senior medics who certainly have not stuck to them - lots of visitors throughout the last six weeks

Yeah there are lots of morons here, who aren't obeying the rules. I would agree with that.

I just don't see why do gooders or human rights are coming into it. Both of these are positive things.

When I spoke of do gooders I meant those that try to good for those that do bad and go down the human rights argument so that they get away with doing wrong lol, sorry if I didn’t portray it that way, I often see the bigger picture in my head and not put it all into words.

I’m saying we have become more of a do what we want nation regardless of the consequences and not what is right or lawful because we know most of the time nothing will be done about it. We complain if restrictions are put in place for our own wellbeing and have those going against them because in a lot of cases again nothing will be done but then we complain that we have the highest covid death rate in Europe, I’m saying it’s because people didn’t adhere to the Stay Home because they didn’t have respect for it or to those that tried to impose it.

I live next door to a couple of senior medics who certainly have not stuck to them - lots of visitors throughout the last six weeks "

I agree those breaking the rules come from all walks of life, don’t argue with that at all and my comment on do-gooders was for those protecting the ones that do wrong, nothing else.

This virus has changed so much in our world.

I saw with disbelief Germans openly rioting and police having to control them while Italy with the highest deaths in the EU seem better behaved

"As we approach 30,000 deaths in the UK, should Johnson be held accountable when this is over.

Give the government a break at this time the inquest is for after
