"Becoming the leader in a middle of a lockdown and pandemic doesn't really give a lot of chances for him to get himself known. I actually think it's good there was a lot of 'don't knows', rather than humiliating. Shows people haven't yet made up their mind and aren't closed minded about him. " As I said ....its early days. Just wait for the fallout shortly

"Starmer has already made Raab look useless at PMQ's. I think he is gonna school Boris." To be fair, Kier Starmer is a former DPP and a successful barrister. You kind of hope that he would be good at winning arguments and performing for a crowd.

"A 'sir' leading the labour party, you couldn't make it up " Who do you think should be leading Labour then, Andy Capp? He'd probably have made a better job than Corbyn managed mind, and been more popular, but I take it that you don't believe in social mobility. Starmer is a sir because he worked hard from humble beginnings to become the Director of Public Prosecutions and not because he bunged the Conservative party a few grand. He wasn't born into money and nor did he go to Eton. Not everyone who becomes a knight of the realm is a toff, some do actually work for it and deserve the recognition.

Corbyn was one of the most principled politicians I've ever known and got absolutely slaughtered. Early days for starmer yet. He is being very cagey. Be interesting to see what Avenue the likes of the mail etc go after him.

"A recent 'you.gov' poll asked who should be leading the country in this time of crisis. Boris Johnson came out on top and Keir Starmer was somewhat humiliated when "Don't Know" got more votes than he did! Probally says more about the intelligence of those interviewed more than anything else So if you don't vote labour you are Probably not very intelligent then. Might be a bit of a message there for labour to grasp. Arrogance is not a very appealing in a political party." I don't vote SNP but I know who the leader is. Its nothing about arrogance. Its about having half an idea about what's happening in the world.

"YouGov is owned & run by a Tory. It is biased towards tbe Tories but done in quite a clever way. I used to be on it. They gradually, by asking you questions, work out where your polirical sympathies lie. If you tend towards being more left you get screened out of these type of polls & don't get to take part in them. I left eventually after I could claim my money for doing surveys. YouGov political surveys are pretty worthless & designed to mislead & promote a Tory agenda." Arent they supposed to be independent?

"At this moment in time nobody should be looking to score political points.Starmer would be a lot more attractive to us if he stopped doing it" I don't know what point scoring you have seen in your desires to be bigger labour supporters. He's attended 2 Prime Ministers question times, held weekly. Not that I think it's happening much anywhere but if observation and feedback is silenced at the most pertinent moment, when things are occurring and thus immediately could be improved on, it is largely bereft of responsible duty. And when it may concern stopping avoidable deaths, it would be morally bankrupt of someone to remain silent. There are intelligent, mature ways to collaborate that don't involve the less mature 'point scoring' that is about ego. Look at how people have lived their lives, whether they have been giving to and serving others or have been more towards the type that seeks to take attention, glory, fame etc. You'll often notice people at different points on that continuum who are in public office.

"It's important to understand how the CPS works. It is not a "top down" body in which all decisions are made by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Individual cases are considered by a reviewing lawyer. The lawyer will belong to one of 14 regional teams, each headed up by its own crown prosecutor with responsiblity for prosecuting cases locally. It would be very unusual indeed for the DPP to take an active role in decisions of when or when not to prosecute; the DPP's role is one of providing broader leadership rather than one of micromanagement".

"Bit early to judge sir Keir especially given the circumstances. I guess it will depend on his policies and if he moves away from the past. He speaks extremely well which given his background I guess he should. I am encouraged he is not opposing just for the sake of it and has openly supported the government in this crisis and pushed them where he can Although I am on the opposite side of the political fence I believe a strong opposition is very important" He has got a tough balancing act.

Johnson has a much higher profile and was a more known commodity in general circles that starmer is.... so at this point you may not know so much about him, as much as us "politics geeks" do... and that is going to be the next challenge for him... to raise his profile to get better know.... the last 2 PMQ's have been a good start, the brief for him know is he has 4 years to do that, and the most he has hold the governments feet to the fire when it needs to be done and show they can be a competant opposition... he will get there!

Yet he was part of a committee that let Jimmy Savile escape justice because there was not enough evidence? " So were a lot of other people over those years when things were actually getting reported, and ignored. To my eyes, he was never presented with anything, let alone anything solid to act on. When things then came to light, he instigated a report, and apologised for the historical poor performance of the service. Let's face it, the blame really lies with the people working alongside Saville all those years.

Pretty sure he doesn't give a fuck about the Daily Fail or anything written in it. In that way, he's like the majority of people.

I'm sure you do make a very good living for yourself, but it will still be a pittance compared to your average cabinet minister. I'm not knocking tradespeople btw, they are a vital part of the economy, but to people like Boris Johnson they are an irrelevance and part of the lower orders or 'plebs', just like nurses and careworkers...until election time or a pandemic that is.

Arrogance is not a very appealing in a political party. I don't vote SNP but I know who the leader is. Its nothing about arrogance. Its about having half an idea about what's happening in the world." He was also in shadow cabinet and very much in public gaze as the Brexit spokesman for Labour. The deliberate mixed messages he was giving on this (trying to keep both sides on side and failing both ways) did not really endear him to many. Very few people will not know who he was...but just as he seemed unsure which way to go on that issue, people will be unsure about him.

"Starmer did a good job today. He's much, much more intelligent than Corbyn, and this shows already. Unfortunately a lot of people won't care even if he gets the best of Boris every week. " Corbyn is intelligent. Like you pointed out, people didn't care and he was ridiculed and demonised on all sides. The leaked report is damning! It's clear that Starmer is very much a statesman and will batter Johnson at PMQs but his real test will be how to get the best out of a divided labour party and keep the supporters on side. Only time will tell...

He may be riding high in the polls now, but he's presiding over a cabinet of incompetents who have to deal with the fallout from this pandemic, whilst trying to mitigate the effects of a hard Brexit at the same time. I think what pisses off most people about labour is how clever they think they all are and that we are all very very thick. I see it so much and it's laughable. Until you stop saying we are thick for not voting for you you will be in opposition for ever. Calling your electorate thick is not endearing at all I'm afraid." " What most voters want is results, not someone who just asks questions. " I disagree. I think most people would be surprised if the leader of the opposition started to get "results" on any of the issues. As leader of the opposition, it is his role to challange and scrutinise the government. Not take the reigns and get results.

"Well boris is certainly getting results Highest death toll in europe Morale at nhs rock bottom Lying on a daily basis. Avoiding TV shows where they are held to account. Go team boris " Let's not forget missing five COBRA meetings in February and March, not instigating a testing programme when the WHO was shouting TEST, TEST, TEST, boasting of shaking hands with Coronavirus patients while his scientific advisers were advising the public not to shake hands with anyone, discharging patients from hospitals to clear beds, then sending them back to their care homes without testing them for COVID-19, thus contributing to the epidemic within care homes. "To date Starmer has not indicated what he has to offer the country. As this stage he is simply a barrister who is potentially a multi millionaire and is knighted . He has no notable achievement at the CPS and appears to have done a very poor job in a number of cases. What most voters want is results, not someone who just asks questions. There is only one poll that matters and that was the one held on December 12 th last year. We will have another in four years time . The crucial thing is to pull votes in four years time. Popularity will rise and fall in the years in between. " I would assume most people would welcome a highly qualified well respected barrister in charge with a long list of achievements as opposed to a clown.

Which by my logic would mean that the majority of the electorate votes for the government? Do you know the last time that a government was elected with more than 50% of the vote? 1935.

I would not concern yourself with Labour supporters though as they still have not learnt from the past and many already conceding defeat for the next election. It's a shame as SKS has impressed so far Who has conceded defeat?" I have asked several on here several times that given whats been going on with the government handling of the crisis it is a golden chance for Labour to sweep to victory at the next GE. A time such as what we are going through now will not be forgoton. All I keep hearing back is Oh the right wing press will brainwash people again and things like that. I will genuinly consider Labour as I always do (have voted for them before) but depends on the policies and attitude. People making such excusses just puts me off

Your a strange one pat, you supplicate yourself like a subservient acolyte when you wax lyrical about Cameron, may and your latest fad Boris and how successful they are in monetary terms yet because Starmer is of the left albeit centre you swallow the bile in that rag you read.. He has said if you are able to understand it that now us not the time for the normal politics and will support the government when it's right which he has done and yet will hold them to account when such scrutiny will assist the issue affecting the nation.. Stop living in the past, last December's result is past and its the now and how it pans out that will matter.. Like the media you live by I suspect as with them he has you a bit worried.. Enjoy the ride.. However any government in power is voted in by the electorate . Consequently you would expect more of the electorate to support the elected party than any other one. By deduction you would expect people to support Prime Ministers such as David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson. Anyone who does not is in the minority. I am uncertain as to why the contents of a newspaper are described as bile , especially as it is an award winning newspaper . You cannot just simply ignore the December election result. It is an indicator of how popular ( or unpopular depending on your view ) the Conservative party is. Any Conservative party supporter knows that they must take action to retain all these seats and gain even more in the next general election. Labour will try to reverse this. I think this crises will be all but forgotten The 2 big factors are going to be just how much of a clusterfuck Brexit will be. And if ks can not only unite the warring factions in the party but also appeal to middle England. We will know better then.

I can't imagine this time ever being forgoton let alone in only 4.5 years time - hell we might even still be living with it sadly. Brexit remains an unkown and will be until the effects actually happen rather than predicted to happen as you say yourself no one can predict with any certainty what will happen. With SKS at the helm and the virus handling Labour will not get a better chance. If they mess it up again I fear for their future and that helps no one

Also some criticised the Intelligence of those taking part. All because they did not like the result. I think starmer has done ok and if he can't lead now it's a problem. Hopefully the long Bailey saga will be a one off

"So far, Starmer hasn’t launched a programme. The election is in 4 years’ time. I guess his objective at this stage is to expose the tories and Johnson for what they are not to tell us what he’d do or will do if he’s pm. There’s no point being in the lead too soon. Labour have a massive job on their hands to win the next election anyway. To win it, they’ll need an extremely good leader and a catastrophic government in the next four years. With the way it’s going, it’s not impossible but you‘ve also got to contend with the rags that are the Sun, the Mail and the Express who will brainwash the thickos again. " That’s arguably the biggest obstacle. And there are so many who will fall for a three-word slogan.

Also just one person accusing others of being thick spreads to more than the person they accuse.
