Ok So i am thick, i already know this, but can anyone help us out here.
The new "see who is near me" application for mobiles, Do we have to log onto fab through our mobiles for this to work?
I ask because on our homepage we "tapped" to get started through our laptop, and it took us through to search who is near by, but then said it couldnt find our location.
so i ask again, do we have to be on our mobiles for it to work, and if not what are we doing wrong?
thanks |

The simple answer is: Yes (there are more complicated answers). Most modern phones have GPS which is passed from your browser to Fab (with your permission).

Have just gone onto the mobile site via lappy and after pressing yes to message asking permission to track location was surprised that results are local to here (not local to where last accessed the feature via mobile) ...
So in short; seems you don't need a mobile |

When you turn it on, do you get:
Mobile Who's Near (Currently ON)?
At the bottom do you get:
We got your location OK: 53.410776, -2.977838
Is this location close to where you are? (Select the digits i.e. all of "53.410776, -2.977838", right click and select "Search Google". When you get the Google page up, click on "Maps". The Pointer shows the location that your browser has obtained and is passing to Fab.) It could be guessing based on your IP address, wireless network, etc. If this is nowhere near to you, then your "Who's mobile nearby" results will be inaccurate!! |

yes get location details ... and have not activated Near Me on the phone since left work (which is over 20 miles east)...
only now activated it on the phone and just checked the location it records ... which is subtley different to that shown via the lappy |

when you went on 1st via lappy did your browser not put up a dialogue box saying the website wanted to track your location? IE9 did for us |

The location above is one returned on the PC. I'm about 20 miles from there. My phone returns the correct location. Turning it off on the phone and immediately on, on the PC, again gives the location above! |

just used freemaptools.com to check distance between location reported on lappy and that on the phone and line of sight difference is 0.063 miles...
oddly the gps location on the phone when plugged into the map is slightly north of where am sat in the garden right now so that 0.063 is actually less than that |
