I had a message today saying that a person has placed a virus on my device and quoted a password I only use on here on Fab.

The writer says, this virus on my system has accessed all my data, pictures etc etc and I don't pay by bit coin a sum of money within 4 days, they are going make life a living hell, by releasing my data to friends and family.

Has this happened to anyone else.?

If anyone has relevant advice, I would appreciate it..

My spam email had a few of those today.

Just ignore it.

It IS good practice to not use the same passwords across different sites thought. Sites get hacked and the scammers buy up password/email combos and hope they can find other sites to ise them on.

Change your password and move on.

I’d say go to the police or action fraud but I get impression you’d rather not do this?

Basically someine hacked a site for email addresses and usernames.

Then they sent a blanket threat to hundreds .

It's a scam and one to ignore except change your site password out of safety.

Thanks to all who replied..this is a copy of the email that was sent to me

Hi!

I know that:..xxxxxxxxx.. is your password!

I infected your computer with my private malware, RAT, (Remote Administration Tool).

The malware gave me full access and control over your computer, I got access to all your accounts (see password above) and it was even possible for me to turn your webcam and microphone on and you didn't even notice about it.

For a long time I was spying on you through your webcam and recorded MANY EMBARASSING VIDEOS OF YOU!!! Hahaha... you know what I mean!

I collected all your private data, pictures, documents, videos, absolutly everything and I know about your family!

After that I removed my malware, to not leave any traces.

I can send the videos to all your contacts (email, social network) and publish all your private data everywhere!!!

Only you can prevent me from doing this!

To stop me, pay 1400$ in bitcoin (BTC).

If you don't know how to buy bitcoin, go to: www.paxful.com ( there are over 300 ways to do it, including credit cards, bank transfer, gift cards ).

Or Google - "How to buy Bitcoin?"

If you want to create your own wallet to receive and send bitcoin, register here: www.login.blockchain.com/en/#/signup/

Or send direct to my wallet from www.paxful.com

My bitcoin wallet is: 12ZyXPMJBAFCfpyYTYo8V6QcG653Lcs9oj

Copy and paste my wallet, it's (cAsE-sensetive)

After receiving the payment, I will delete the video and everything else and we will forget everything, you will never hear from me again...BUT if you don't pay and simply ignore this email, I promise, I will turn your life and the life of your family into HELL and you will remember me for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!

I give you 4 days to get the bitcoins and pay.

Since I already have access to your account, I will know if this email has been already read.

To make sure you don't miss this email, I sent it multiple times.

Don't share this email with anyone, it just will make everything worse, only I can help you out in this situation and this should stay our little secret!

Shit happens, next time update your browser, you got infected over my exploitpack where the iframe was placed on the website your browsed, take it as a lesson, simply pay and life your live in peace like before.

So if you pay up why do you think they'll delete the stuff they say they have - they can just go on to demand more money off you. Just ignore it and change your passwords. Make sure you have a decent virus checker/spyware checker installed and you'll be fine.

All the passwords have been changed and I have firewalls, anti virus programs etc. on top of that I deactivated, password memory..

It just concerned me that they had my password I use on Fab. .overall I am not that concerned now, but you know how it is, we try to remain anonymous to the vanilla world.

I had my mail account hacked a few years ago and apart from a few of my contacts receiving some odd mails there were no other consequences. It just shows that nothing is safe and we should all stop falling for the con being perpetrated by the banks encouraging us to bank online so they can shut more expensive branches to increase their profits. The question being of course when they've all gone and they decide to charge us for using a.t.m's what alternative will we have except cough up?

Does no one remember the last almighty disaster they created losing all our money in their rush to increase their obscene profits and personal bonuses... And has anyone of these perpetrators suffered the tiniest consequence from this? That's a resounding no!
