Good luck with the visit!
It's daunting trying to break the ice but it maybe your shyness made you look closed and unapproachable (easily done) so people may have thought you wanted to keep yourselves to yourselves?
I'm sure second time around you'll be more confident and hopefully you'll have the courage to break the ice with others, once everyone knows you're happy to mix I'm sure you'll be very popular!
