Well, what's next?
Ah yes, Saturday, 7.45pm somewhere in Germany. Now that Newcastle aren't in the running for a CL spot I'll be rooting for Chelsea (seeing as they're English).

Well, ya gotta really, even if ya hate them during the domestic season. What really pisses me off though is that Terry won't be playing but they've said he can lift the trophy if they win it. |

Now that Arsenal have secured the last automatic Champions League spot, I can happily watch the Champions league final. If Chelsea win, Spurs are out next season. If Bayern win, Chelsea are out next season.
It's a win-win for me! |

glad for the city fans, more than the club itself, as they have stuck with their club through thin and thin lol.
really do hope chelsea win, and think they have a better chance with terry not playing. if RDM can keep Luiz on a leash then he can be a much better defender than Terry and deal with a mobile munich attack easier.
will be a good game. |

Manchester City centre will be at a standstill this evening as it will be the first time that anyone who actually LIVES in Manchester will have seen their local team win the league Mind you the news gets better as Traffic Police have reported the Northbound M1 & M6 have normal traffic today rather than the jams that had been expected with 90 seconds left of the City game.... |

Joey Barton has been handed a 12-match ban for his misdemeanors in the last game of the season against City.
He received a 4-match ban for the straight red he earned himself during the match, but his other offences (kicking Aguero and rucking with Kompany) were out of the match ref's jurisdiction as Barton had already been dismissed. He recieved 4-match bans for each of those offences.
He'll fit right in at West Ham. |

well england were piss last week, and they were piss this week, and still they won both games.an attribute england have lacked in the past, winning ugly.
please dont take this as an insult, this is praise.
most teams who have won any major competition, have had to win ugly,at some point,to do so.
just ask italy, germany, argentina etc etc.(mainly italy)
so it's not often,playing piss,can be seen as a positive quality,but in this case,for england,it is. |

But then England won't be winning anything soon, will they? |

Unfortunately I dont have any enthusiasm anymore for 'English' clubs in Europe..they are English in name only.
Sod the plastic premiership as well, id rather championship or league football any day of the week as it still retains some (albeit decreasing) essence and spirit of the English game.. |

One of the very few good things about Twitter (I'm not a fan of it by any means) is that it shows the celebs who use it for the dopes they really are.
Does anyone doubt that Piers Morgan is an intelligent man? Not me, he's a smart cookie, but his tweets regarding the sale of RVP to United (Piers is an Arsenal fan) show him to have completely lost the plot over this issue with him tweeting that RVP is a "mercenary little shit" for daring to leave Arsenal. It's just business, and a very good piece of business on Arsenal's behalf who paid £2.5m for RVP in 2002 when he was 20 and have sold him for £22m now he's 29. That's a fantastic piece of business actually, and United will benefit from the goals he'll score sure, but the price was a heavy one to pay for it.
You'd think people like Piers Morgan would realise that wouldn't you? |

It's a bit of a nothing football week this week. No really big matches to drool over and only Spurs v Reading tomorrow. More of an opportunity to get some decent points in the Fantasy League really.
Next Sunday is a big one though with:
Liverpool v Man Utd, 13.30
Newcastle v Norwich, 15.00
Man City v Arsenal, 16.00
...and some other football teams playing on the Saturday too.

Today's a big footballing day as one of today's matches is the biggest game in the English League calendar: Liverpool -v- Manchester United, and given the recent events regarding Hillsborough and the way both sets of fans bait each other constantly, it should set the scene for a game to bridge the divide, or make the gap even wider. Let's hope it the latter and not the former.
As for the match itself, it's one of the oldest contested matches in the English domestic league, with it being the 186th meeting between the two most successful clubs in English league history. United lead Liverpool by 72 wins to 62, with 51 draws, and the two clubs first met in April 1894, when Liverpool won 2-0 in a promotion/relegation play-off to replace their United in the top flight.
KO: 1.30pm, Anfield.
I'm predicting a 3-1 win for United as they haven't won at Anfield in their last three visits there and Liverpool just haven't got started this season yet and are without a dedicated striker (having loaned him out to West Ham but they forgot to buy a replacement hee hee)
~
And then there's Man City -v- Arsenal, KO 16.00, Etihad Stadium.
A resurgent, rampant Arsenal who banged in 6 goals last week against a City team struggling to gel their new signings with the established team and are not defending their title with the relish they were expected to.
My money's on Arsenal for this one.
~
In between these two big games is Newcastle -v- Norwich, and even though it isn't as big a game as the other two it should still provide plenty of goals and I'm backing my local team to take the points. 2-0 to the Toon.
~
Lastly, there's Tottenham -v- QPR, sometime later in the afternoon at a place in London somewhere. Who really gives a fuck. |

Sir Alex Ferguson has been given a selection dilemma when it comes to choosing his most in-form referee after Mark Halsey turned in a blinder during his side’s 2-1 win at Anfield yesterday.
Halsey’s storming performance means that Howard Webb’s first-team place is under threat.

And yet United have only ever been awarded a penalty at Anfield three times. Ever. And they've missed two of them! |

Spot on!
I admit, I didnt watch the match, but watched MOTD2 and wtf were they on about??? Yep, Shelvy should have been sent off, as should Evans and Liverpool should have been given a penalty too.
If man u were given that penalty, surely Liverpool should have been given a penalty too.
Also, Van Persie should have been sent off considering Shelvy got sent off for a similar challenge (IMHO)
However, ignoring the chants about the ref etc. It seemed to be a good game, and Liverpool surprisingly outplayed Man Ure. Omg I just agreed with Fergie lol
I have to say though, lovely gesture by Mr Charlton yesterday, and even found it a bit heart warming watching Carra chat n laugh with Fergie.
Please slap me now for defending Man u!!!
So glad there wasnt any major trouble or the likes between he fans!
Well done to both sides. Was very heart warming |

It's been an interesting two days of Capital One Cup football.
Man Utd beat Newcastle tonight, Liverpool scraped through, Arsenal breezed past Coventry hitting 6 goals and Chelsea smacked Wolves for 6 too.
Round 4 draw:
Sunderland* v Middlesborough
Swindon v Aston Villa*
Wigan* v Bradford
Leeds* v Southampton
Norwich v Tottenham*
Liverpool v Swansea*
Chelsea v Manchester United*
Reading v Arsenal*
* are the teams I predict to go through. |

I see the Society of Black Lawyers have jumped on the 'racism in football' bandwagon and are busily being deeply offended on behalf of anyone willing to listen to their bullshit.
Now they are claiming that the FA is institutionally racist and that the FA and Chelsea are covering up what Mark Clattenberg did or didn't say during the Chelsea/Man U game.
I hope Chelsea FC are pleased with themselves for opening this can of worms, especially since they stood by their man whom the FA found guilty of... racism. You couldn't make it up could you. |

Mark Hughes has refused a request from the QPR board to resign as manager. Hughes would be entitled to pay-off in the region of £5million were the club to sack him.

Not a smart move by Tony Fernandez to offer his manager such an escape clause, well, not so much as an escape clause, more like a portculis, a 5' thick wooden gate and 5 million soldiers guarding it. |

I see Platini is trying to get his breakaway Euroleague going again. He wants to do away with the Europa Cup and double the teams in the Champion's League to 64.
Call me Mr Picky here but shouldn't CHAMPIONS play in the Champion's League (and yes I am aware that would exclude United as they aren't last year's Champions but I stand by what I think the CL should be) |

i'm a celtic fan,and i'm not going to kid myself.there's not a team,in the last 16,who would have been disappointed to draw celtic,on two counts.
1/every team loves a trip to celtic park,to experience the superb atmosphere, created by the even superber celtic fans.

Reports suggest that Ronaldo is set to refuse to sign a new deal at Real Madrid which would see him leave on a free once his present deal expires. It would also remove any transfer fee barrier to signing him, and the playuer has said he would like to go back to Manchester United.
Hmmmm..
I clearly remember the same player saying he didn't want to leave United for Real and the shenanigans that took place before he did exactly that. Could this be another cynical ploy by Ronaldo to get improved terms at Real, or has he really fallen out of love with his boyhood club?
If he does let his contract expire it will set a precendent for players worth in excess of £50m as their clubs will want to put in escape clauses to ensure they get at least some form of payment for a highly valued player. A clause such as not being able to sign for any of the top three teams in European leagues perhaps?
Don't get me wrong, as a United fan I'd welcome him back with open arms as I thought we'd got the best out of him before but he's clearly improved immensely in his 5 year at Real so let's hope he means what he says this time around. Can't help having that niggling doubt in the back of my mind that he's playing the same old game as he played before though.
On a more positive note, United are to sign £18m-rated Polish striker Robert Lewandowski in the Summer, and United are also in the hunt for Leighton Baines' signature too. That's more like it Fergie.
Meanwhile, in the blue corner, Mancini is hoping to beat Chelsea fo David Villa's services. Good luck with that, they'll pay through the nose for a 31yo who's seen his best days I think.
And in the latest David Beckham career saga, it looks like Posh has missed out on the chance to mingle bling with the best of them after Monaco have turned down Beckham's financial requests to sign him. Oh well, I'm sure Posh can mingle from a distance. |

The FA have explained that the potential for a minute's silence to commemorate Mrs Thatcher being marred by people who loathed her was very real because of her divisive reputation, and on that basis the FA decided not to go ahead with a minute's silence. |

"The FA have explained that the potential for a minute's silence to commemorate Mrs Thatcher being marred by people who loathed her was very real because of her divisive reputation, and on that basis the FA decided not to go ahead with a minute's silence. "
foofball fans especialy liverpool ones arent exactly her biggest fans & to be honest dont really see why they would hold a minutes silence anyway at footy matches.? |
