Something that grates on my nerves (and it is such a silly thing) is when parents name their children after themselves.
Are you named after a parent?
Have you named a child after yourself or partner?
Would you name your own child after yourself? |

I had my dads name , who had he’s dads name etc , the first son born had the name , it was on my birth certificate but was never called it always my middle name , this was a nightmare at school and the doctors when they call you by your real name which I don’t respond to , have changed it by deed poll now |

"An uncle on my Dad's side. "
I can understand being named after other relatives because it's kind of like honouring them. But if you name a child after yourself, doesn't it smack of narcism?
I also understand a child being named after a parent if that parent died. |

I was named after two of my great grandmothers, one name shortened and one name extended.
My son is named after three of his great grandfathers. Why because I like the old traditional names
My Scottish side followed the naming tradition followed up there until my generation. Lots of great uncles / aunts have surnames as their middle names. |

I (her) am named after my mother's brother who passed away when he was 11 days old. Obviously I have the female version of the name.
I also have my horrible grandmother's first name as my middle name... and my ex husband's surname!
Maybe I should pick my own names x |

"We've used family names as middle names. I have no idea where my (unusual) name came from but I'm not named after anyone. "
Kinky is an unusual name |

I have relatives in the 17th century who did that. And even surnames as first names. I imagine some strong minded females or father in laws decided the name would die in that generation |

Middle names are acceptable as we don't have to use them. But yeah you can change your name by deed poll |

Makes it easy to trace the tree if they followed the tradition. One of my great aunts, 5th girl, ended up being called Williamina as no sons had been produced to honour the males. My youngest great uncle (there was 15 of them) got his mother’s maiden name as a first name, guess they run out of ideas |

I'm not named after anyone.
My mum is named after her grandad and my dad has a family name, the first born male has his name but it's a bit odd. The rule died with my dad, he refused to inflict it on my brother |

My daughter has one of my middle names and her middle name is composed from part of her grandmothers name.
Not an ego trip, I just liked her first name because it was uncommon now, and can be shortened, and it gives her great initials.
I tried to come up with something else, but always came back to it x |

There and to the left a bit |
I was named after my Mum's first ever boyfriend when she was 7 apparently - mind you I had a lucky escape, if I'd been a girl I was going to be named after Una Stubbs!!
All of my kids have been just names that have been liked at the time rather than being after anyone particularly |

I've heard worse (and definitely smacks of narcissism): boy is named after dad. Dad leaves this family and starts a new family. New son is named after him. That is just all sorts of wrong. |

Apparently his dads mum chose it"
Ah. I thought Jack was your son, not partner, oops. |
