Has anyone here volunteered to help out the NHS or another organisation with this Corona bullshit?

If so, which organisation are you helping and how are you helping them? What does it involve? How or where did you sign up?

I’m a key worker but also volunteer in my spare time! Not that I have any spare time at the moment!

I've been taking supplies to mates of mine who are disabled and/or isolating. I'm just doing that myself.

Where though? I want to volunteer for something. I'm not sure what yet.

Cool cool. I want to do something at night time. I have no medical qualifications at all. Maybe I could help in some way though. I don't know. I've emailed my local hospital. It's an interesting one - because of my age, I might be wanted. We'll see I guess.

Social care organisations and charities are recruiting volunteers to assist with home support for those unable to go out. I'm sure a quick Google or look on a local FB page will direct you to somewhere.

The organisation I volunteer for requires specific training and DBS checking and all training is on hold at moment.

You could try the Red Cross. St Johns Ambulance. Etc

I can't at the moment. I volunteered at maternity. Though we have a massive local fb group to support women.. and hopefully we will collectively as an organisation come up with other plans. I know some were doing video chats.

I was going to suggest asking at your local food bank. They are under a huge strain at the moment.

In the weeks and months to come, the Samaritans will no doubt be even busier. They also tend to be busier in the evenings, so you could contact them to see what you could do.

We have set a big community corona virus Facebook page up and from that individual Facebook pages covering certain areas (ie: including a couple of roads) it’s working very well. People are asking if they need help with things. Lots of people are leaving children’s toys, jigsaws, craft activities etc outside their house for people to take. The community spirit here in my village is heartwarming. Everyone’s children’s has drawn rainbows to stick in their windows. There is a bear hunt where people have put bears in their window for people to spot when they are out for a walk/exercise.

There is I think 4 support groups where I live..now council asked them all to contact and make it all more coordinated under one umbrella. I'm attempting a rainbow display today with kiddos. Small things matter too!

I saw that a hospital was actively asking for volunteers. It was in Harrogate so too far for me.

Note that I know I'm WFH I'm going to look for something too.

I've found it's not as straightforward as you might think.

I spoke to a local charity a few days ago, they transport cancer patients for their treatments, and they said they were grateful but didn't have the capacity to carry out the training needed due to there own now reduced team.

.

I've now offered to do personal shopping for some NHS people I know as the supermarket special NHS times are being abused by selfish twats who have all day.

That's great. They seem to struggle a lot due to mainly elderly volunteers who are self isolating x
