Not what you thought

Is now the time to get a puppy? My eldest is off now till 6th form in September and I’m not allowed into work after Easter.

Thought about getting a cockapoo for a while but still nervous about it

P.s never had a dog before

So long as you think you can continue to care for it after the apocalypse is over, then go for it.

"what's going to happen to it in September?"

I’m assuming it’ll be fine at home

Me and my husband both took time off work when we got a puppy, for the first few weeks

Thanks everyone x I’m just a bit nervous as know what a huge commitment it is and I will be teaching 4 days a week in Sept, always thought it wasn’t fair to leave it alone, that long in a day. If that makes any sense

Maybe get a dog walker?

My wee brother finishes work at 1pm so would go to my house on his way home from work to walk my four.

Or you get doggy day cares

No it’s not fair to leave it alone that long in a day! Would you like it not being able to go to the loo all day? Think seriously! A dog is for life!

remember dogs are for life they need constant exercise and need to go to loo etc if you're working eventually isn't it a bit selfish leaving the dog at home on its own?

Yeah I totally agree, my eldest would be out 8:30-4pm but it’s still long hours. Apparently you can get doggie day care and then a dog walker that comes to your house so thinking about those options too. So much to think about x

No I totally agree I’m still researching options for types of care, I didn’t know all these different types existed for dogs.

My mother in law uses a doggy day care type women. She has a few dogs a day at her home (she lives on a farm) and she takes them out in her big van and they all go for big walks. Picks the dogs up from their house and drops them off when it’s home time. And she does boarding as well

Hi, not putting cockapoos down at all as they are lovely but very hyper ! A popular breed at the moment is a Cavapoo, (King charles Cavalier / poodle) these are very pretty and alot calmer but ....... what about a Jackapoo (Jack Russell/poodle) I have bred my lovely sweet Daisy, Jack Russell with a Apricot poodle and she produced lovely small highly intelligent pups which I kept one for myself named Dillon .. she's expecting her second litter next week.

Ah thanks I’ll look into them, which would you say in your opinion are the best with youngish children?

I have a cockapoo and getting another in July. Mine is not hyper but needs alot of exercise. They are lovely dogs, very intellegent so easy to train and the do not cast hair. However they do require to be groomed which cost around £45 every 6weeks. I also have a golden retriever who is adorable too.

I had a golden retriever growing up. Died when he was 17. He was honestly the best dog in the entire world

Dogs also need company too! Not just walks....when they are alone they start ripping the house up!

Definitely get a pup.. Your house isn't a home without a dog, I have had my little lad for 13 years now and he's still going on strong
