I once pissed in a gutter outside a well known retail outlet, to wash away discarded cigarette butts. Disgusting smoking habit. |

I was in the CCF when I was at Boarding School and flew a Chipmunk, became a marksman and went absailing off some cliffs near Plymouth, but I think that I might be a tad too old to look for a career in the military now |

What sort of things stopped you..I guess fear of getting shot at would be the main one.. |

OP you should 100% go for it. Do not live a life of regret. I always wanted to be in the police force and had chances but didn’t follow through I’m now 34 and just recently went through the whole application process and failed. I regret not doing it sooner and now feel I’m too old to try again (as would have to wait 6 months to reapply)
Life honestly shoots by and things happen do what you want and be happy. |

Yeah but that makes me 6 months older!!! Almost 35. The competition is high. There were 120 of us and only 10% got in I was one of the “older” ones. Clearly I know I’m not old but when you are in competition with a 20 something year old I am!! |

Not too late. They want people with life skills, and perseverance goes in your favour. |

If you are seriously keen, consider other Forces. They aren't all the same. |

Wow thankyou i love your possitive vibes expressed in this message, youve one stepped ahead of me by applying and trying and i havent done nothing.. how comes u failed?? Was it your nerves? Nothing stopping you retrying? Even my parents said to go for it and they the reason i dont. Il love to be a police officer aswell but ive got a past but i think the forces dont look down on that lol, im happy to join any like navy RAF or millitary. Maybe millitary first as a mechanic thats the dream. My mental health may screw up my application |

"What's stopping you joining OP? Even the reserves to get a taster of it and do some good stuff. Don't grow old regretting it unless you have medical issues that would bar you from entry "
Just the normal stuff like family sick home sick, mental health and the unknown lol |

" My mental health may screw up my application
Depends what the issue was, how long ago it was, and likelihood of relapse
The worst kinds pal"
Unfortunately that's a bar to entry then. A bout of depression or anxiety a decade ago with no relapse and not on any meds you can probably appeal, otherwise it would be a no. Sorry dude. |

You don't have to be in the armed services to be of service to your country. |

Done 10 fun years as a Reservist - and a few years with a Regular Unit. Most of my friends now are ex-Army!
If you want to start but you're unsure, I'd suggest as a Reservist. If you like it and want a bit more - you can join as a Regular.
Whatever your perception is now regarding not being home, shelve it. It's not a prison.
As long as your fit, no drug history, and no real mental health issues, you should be fine.
Feel free to drop me a PM if you want to discuss it - I'm actually signing back up |
