Assuming that you have to have all the doors closed, the only position that ever really worked for me (and my lady friend) was;
Me sat in the middle of the rear seat facing forward with her straddling me, facing me.  |

I used to own a Renault Espace 7 seater, all the five back seats came out, so taking the back two out, and the outer ones of the middle row just left a single seat in the back with space all the way round and the two front seats swivelled round to face backwards, so much space it was awesome.
I would love a camper van though !! |

I once managed to dislocate my kneecap in a Hillman Imp (I was about 18, and she wasn't impressed or very sympathetic either)...its one of the reasons why I now drive a people carrier  |
