The damaging effects of health and safety!

To start with, I'll just say that this post is facetious. Don't take it too seriously - it's intention is to induce thought.
So, I've just been thinking about the past. I was born in 1986, so when I was old enough to have a laugh, it would have been the mid 90's. I rem_mber that we were allowed to 'do stuff'.
There were activities which weren't inhibited by health and safety legislation. Me and my brother and friends had fun - real fun! We were allowed to do whatever we wanted to an extent. There were paid activities which weren't crushed by high insurance premiums, there were organisations which were not petrified of being sued.
I rem_mber going to Butlins in a place in North West Wales. There were rides there, it was cheap too. It was good fun (if you weren't a total pussy). In the 2000's, this park removed the 'fun stuff'.
I rem_mber one particular place called "The Crocky Trail" near Chester somewhere. It was basically a farm where you could go nuts. There were rope swings over ponds, 'dangerous' rides and stuff. You'd get muddy, you'd get wet and cold, and you'd be fucked up by the time you got back to the car. Injured etc.
I rem_mber water parks in the UK where there were real flumes. The price wasn't expensive and legislation wasn't injury obsessed. Businesses didn't seem to be worried about 'no win no claim'.
I sometimes look now, look at what my kids can do, and think "we've spoilt everything". We seem to have become a nation of pussies! Everything seems to be "padded" with health and safety stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone to die. Ofcourse not, but I honestly believe that minor injuries can be good for the mind. I look back to the stupid things I've done and laugh about the amazing times which I had with my friends back in the day.
Look at what we've done to our country now. Look at how it is for out kids. |

I was born in 1956. Imagine how the h and s differed in the 60s to what affected you as a child.
If you want your children to experience things there are acres and acres of forest and woodland available for rope swings, muddy adventures and the possibility of minor injuries. Without being rude or generalising, people of my generation notice that a lot of younger people assume they have to pay for an activity that can be found for free with a bit of effort |

I miss the old days too, when bosses didn't have to worry about nightly little details like safety guards on machines (what's the problem with a few sparks in the eye anyway?) or maintaining machines,equipment and vehicles in good condition (aww,,, lost a limb,have we? Boo hoo....now stop whinging and get some work done).
It's all health and safety gone mad these days,it's why we can't compete with the developing world and why we have to import goods and viruses from abroad.
There are workers in some countries who aren't concerned about the factory burning down with them in it.They're just grateful for the chance to do a days work for a (very un) fair days pay...not like all these sorties these days, wanting a job AND to get home alive and intact at the end of the day.
Bring back National Service,I say.

I think the OP is more referring to playing conkers and climbing on hay bales rather than chlorinated chicken. |

Insurance and claims have totally screwed up everything for people ,there was a brilliant indoor fun playground for kids near where l live which has been open for years and the insurance has gone through the roof and forced it to close,even people are now worried to give or pick up people thumbing a lift cause they're afraid in case something might happen and they'd be sued... |

No. It increased at the same time we decided that people dying at work wasn’t an acceptable risk. The days of ‘well, it’s a dangerous job what can you do?’ are thankfully long gone.
If you meant - some people use ‘health and safety’ as an excuse not to do something that might require a bit of thought and planning to do safely, then you’d be spot on. |

I worked for a company at Gatwick that had no sick pay, if you got injured you were told to put a claim in. The company quashed so many of them, as they had a robust health and safety policy in place.
