This has been fascinating me today. Sir is off on a much decerved holiday, so i put up a staus, jokey, hyperbolic and ending with the words so there (only used in my opinion by 6 year olds) about not missing him at all, in amy way whatsovever!
And all day have got pm's of people wondering what was up and what had happened
Which has set me thinking...
Firstly do people really use status updates to have arguments/ reveal their emotional problems, and is it so common people immediately leap to the worst conclusion.
Or, is it a feature of our social networked cyber age? Are people so used to seeing strangers reveal the drama of their daily lives that they fail to see a joke , or lack of drama?
Are we living in an era when people think everyone's lives are public, more Eastenders than Archers?
Thoughts? |

Hadn't noticed but dont pay attention to the status shite. Cant see why you would put a thread up about it unless its a raw nerve being hit. The sir bit made me laugh though so 1970s |

I love status's
A total snapshot of what someone thinking at that time, whether its grumpy, funny or thoughtful
For me they indicate a true personality, sometimes more than a profile does
They can be what makes me want to message someone or put me off someone |

i only ever look at friends...so i know i want to message them if that makes sense...
But then i have seen ppl comment on the forum about how statuses put them off before, so i think you are not alone there. |

Agree absolutely.
Many is the time you see a nice thoughtful profile, then you see a status showing they really appear to be an obnoxious knob-head... |

"have we ever lived in an era where everyone didn't think they have a right to discuss everyone and anyones' private buisness?
"
Its more the sharing of the intimate that i was wondering about...are we living in an age when people expect to hear intimate details?
i agree that gossip is universal...but i am wondering is the belief everyone shared their emotions with strangers is new? |

People reveal way to much online about personal things, think it is down to social network media. You can tell everyone you arepissed off with someone or over the moon about something at the push of a button
Nothing is private anymore. |

this is what i was thinking...i mean for me it is...i can share my fave sexual position, but how i feel, and personal stuff is private.
But people must be used to seeing personal stuff shared if they lea to assuming the worst. |

I use filters to stop a lot of people contacting me, but still some get through so I'll stick a status notice to reflect who's messaged me.
I prefer to meet local to south London but if I get a spate of non locals I'll post "what part of local aren't dome of you getting?" types.
One status line made me go ..."no longer swinging as husband caught having bareback sex in the shower"
Why?!! |

I've seen many that are used for arguments or winding others up, its so childish and immature and it certainly gives you a greater insight. All these people who are supposedly supremely confident, definitely wanting no strings, are never jealous, always choosing swinging partners effectively and never had bad meets, never encountered a timewaster, never been turned down etc etc etc, their statuses tell a very different story.
We don't use the status update as nothing is happening on a daily basis that I want to share with strangers |

Yep, experienced a bit of that last year and it wasn't nice, but also laughable too as I knew the other side of it!
Sadly the lady wasn't in a good place at the time. |

Reading statuses have served as warning not to meet some people. Their problems, their issues, their frustrations all very nice to know...
Fantastic insight to some peoples life thoughts

I used to put song lyrics on mine as a bit of a game and it was also good as an ice breaker. Then one day i put some up (cant remember what) and some guy sent me a really long message about how i shouldnt be on a swinging site if i wanted commitment ect ect bla bla. Took me ages to connect it to what was in the lyrics id put up |

So many statuses on here are worthy of trips to a psychologist .. some are just plain amusing ... some are quite sad too
When I write mine they are usually always tongue in cheek ... for example mine now is about sweets and nothing else... its other people that make it in to something it isn't
x |

aye but they were right, weren't they, cos it's not the sort of status you usually put up? |
