Live forever & Champagne supernova. Impossible to look beyond Oasis for me. Miles ahead of the rest in my opinion.
Blur were overrated, Song 2 was good but that's about it. Park life was average and girls & boys terrible. They proved as much with their diabolical performance at the Brits earlier this year. |

Noel's song writing ability can't be understated. Yes they may have been idiots of the highest order (mainly Liam) but that shouldn't detract form their talent, particularly Noel's.

I'm sorry but I totally disagree. Yes they had a massive Beatles influence but Oasis have produced some of the best songs in the last 15 years.
The amount of albums and the quality of songs on them (without going into the B sides) I dont think is comparable to many other bands in that space of time.
Fair enough you may not like them, everyone is entitled to opinions but they're certainly not over rated with no talent in my opinion. |

He admitted himself a few years ago that his song writing isn't what it used to be because his life isn't the same. He doesn't have the inspiration from being a very working class young man on the dole.
Noel still managed to get to number 1 in the UK (like every single album he has written) and the album received huge critical acclaim. Also he is still playing in sold out arenas around the world. You should see his recent concert in Buenos Aires, it was quite amazing. |

Britpop was post British Pop, started around the time of Oasis, Blur, Suede etc.
Now if we are talking British Pop....
Kinks...Hollies...Animals...Beatles...
British Pop would be my favourite period....can we have a thread about that?......please.

"The Kinks Waterloo Sunset

British popular music doesn't get more British or popular than The Kinks!
How can you pigeon hole good music? |

London |
Just watched a YouTube vid of Shed 7 pulling of a cover of the coda at the end of resurrection at a festival
For me.. Too many to count.. The era was buzzing with good tunes.. Most of them have been played to death so they don't have the impact which we remember
I remember watching a MTV clip of Noel sitting on a rock in Ibiza? playing acoustic and demoing Look Back in Anger for the first time
Highlight for me... Chris Evans Friday night show where a band played a cover version each week..
Cracking tunes |

Oasis were very over rated, they had 2 good albums where Blur had 1 poor one (The Great Escape was poor beyond comparison....)
When talking about song writing talents, Damon Albarn is one of the best of his generation as can be seen with not only Blur, but The Gorrillaz and the fact that he has written 2 oprahs (one to critical acclaim and one soon to e to critical aclaim, you wait and see).
And let's be honest, Blur kicked the whole scene off with Parklife, didn't they? |

Suede definitely Brit pop
An out there one menswear and daydreamer or mis shapes by pulp or getting away with it by electronic, hard to pigeon hole Brit pop probably just say most guitar bands from 92-99 get called Brit pop |

Unfortunately the Roses don't count - they were a few years before.
Blur - massively overrated. One good album - Leisure. Actually, three good songs on that, a lot of filler. And you can't diss Liam Gallagher for singing in an affected voice and still think pretend cockerney Albarn is a good singer.
One of my favourite bands from that era - Shed Seven. |

I think the problem with Oasis is that they never grew. They had a formula that worked and they churned out the same stuff repeatedly. Even Noels new stuff sounds just like Oasis circa 1997. Champagne Supernova is one of my all time fav songs, so I am not knocking what they did do. However, I do not think they will be remembered as a great band, they just did not diversify enough. |

Waterloo sunset. The kinks were the inspiration for Brit pop
Country house blur
Bit of a north south divide with the blur/oasis argument.
Not many going for pulp video 2000
Met Jarvis cocker, exactly as I expected. Pretentious twat |

ah yes shed seven!,vastly under rated band, sounded a bit like stone roses on 'going for gold' but did great numbers like 'she left me on friday' and 'where have you been tonight'.
and what about 'cast'?,who did some very memorable songs?.
'walkaway' 'guiding star' 'live the dream' which recieved good airplay.
i am not a fan of oasis or blur. |
