For those that were interested in why the hunchback of Notre dame is so amazing (in my opinion), here it is, in brief...
The music is phenomenal, memorable, chilling. Alan menken really did a fantastic job here.
Hellfire is such a wonderful villain song.
Speaking of villain, judge Claude frollo is by far the scariest Disney villain I think, because he's very realistic- people like him have existed and still do. Though paradoxically, he was also my first fictional crush :')
Next, Quasimodo is of course an endearing main character, but in a bit of a break from tradition, he doesn't 'get the girl' though this doesn't stop him from risking his life to help Esmeralda, even when he knows she's fallen for Phoebus.
Speaking of our leading lady, Esmerelda is a strong, and complex character who also gets a great musical number in the form of 'god help the outcasts'.
The narrator, Clopain, is entertaining, wonderfully voiced, and presents a great opening sequence, as well as leading probably the most memorable song of them all, 'the bells of Notre dame'.
The animation, colours and attention to detail are stunning... I could go on and on but I'll leave it there. |
