I know everybody is probably sick of hearing about coronavirus but does anybody suspect that the gov isn't telling us the whole story. Yes we know it's bad but during SARS or bird flu I've never seen a reaction like this in how quickly some countries are changing there stance, lockdown, cancelling events or gatherings over a certain number , virtually grounding flights asking manufacturers to make ventilators and offering to buy as many as they can make, shutting bars and restaurants I know it's a pandemic and its costing thousands of lives but these moves are all unprecedented so how bad is it going to get and does the gov or world health organisation have estimates I just get the feeling they do know how bad it's going to get and for how long it's going to last or are they really clueless about it

theyve instilled fear into you all and thats how bad its got so far, i don’t own a tv luckily because i can imagine how much you've all been saturated with the over reaction, so much so that even though you're sick of it you're starting another thread on it, we don't actually know how bad it will be none of us are experts on this virus but some amongst us love collecting the stats and sharing them and stats out of context mean nothing, self isolation is good if you can achieve it, some of us can't, we can't live, we can't work, we can't earn money, we can't work from home, carry on amplifying it that really will make it better but ultimately you can't avoid it. life goes on

Live in Scotland Play in England

Could it be its all been pre-planned?

Check out event 201 on YouTube

I think this is perhaps being orchestrated. Look at where we are. Countries have instigated a plethora of different interventions for dealing with it. But despite there being a global pandemic, there hasn't been a unified response globally. People have been allowed to continue jumping on planes day in day out transmitting the infection from country to country even with the worst of it apparent in China, no country was implementing a complete block on air travel in and out of the country. Same thing pretty much happened every other place with high levels of infection.

What's the consequence of this? If italy is anything to go by, all other European countries which have not yet implemented a lock down are going to find their health services overwhelmed. Many will die, in numbers so horrific that when we come out the other side, survivors will be really angry at their leaders. They will blame such unprecedented levels of death on an uncoordinated response and inept governments. What the people will want is a single government to rule over the whole world...we are all one and we all deserve to be treated the same. We will beg for this ruler... and so will begin a new world order.

It was always coming, it was just a matter of when.

I haven't seen panic buying like this before.

I remember 2009 when the press convinced everyone that we were all going to die of swine flu and that fizzled out rather unceremoniously. I'd just moved into halls at uni and had health anxiety so I was convinced I was going to die.

I've actually never had flu, not even the seasonal one, to my knowledge. If I have, then it's been so mild that it's not even given me a fever, aches of any kind etc. I've only had basic colds I think.

I think it's definitely scare mongering on behalf of the press. They keep banging on 100 confirmed cases, 200 confirmed, 500 confirmed, but what they don't tell you is that that figure is since late December and that, for most of these 'confirmed cases' they were 'confirmed' so long ago that most of these people are probably over it and not even contagious anymore.

Even IF every single one of the current 'confirmed cases' was actively contagious, which most now aren't, that's still less than 1,000 people out of 66,000,000 across a 3 month period (just shy of a few weeks).

Why people are panicking is beyond me. Just look at it. 3 months...1,000 people out of 66,000,000, mostly mild cases reported.

In the interests of proper news reporting they should say for example 500 confirmed cases, 450 confirmed recoveries etc.

I think maybe the swap from daily to weekly figures might have panicked people, but then daily figures still seem to be getting to the press.

Honestly, I think the press have a lot to answer for, they've done more damage than Covid-19 has and probably will.

The majority will know. Especially when it’s a respiratory disease or immune disease. They are the ones at real risk. The majority of people should be able to ride it out.

I know a guy in his 30s who has been ill with it. He felt like crap and was running a fever for 3 days but it broke and after a couple more days he’s feeling much better.

He took paracetamol and drank lots of water. He was told not to take ibuprofen as it would make no difference or make him feel worse.

I see it's now 1,500 odd cases, haven't checked since Sunday, still, to only have 1,500-1,600 cases when the virus has been travelling since late December, in a population of well over 66,000,000 is good going I think. People need to stop looking to Italy and panicking, a) their population is very elderly in comparison to most countries and b) there's many of them ignoring the lock down and actively protesting...in groups...about something that they should be thankful for.

1500 confirmed cases. There's probably lots more unconfirmed because they either can't get tested, or don't deem it serious enough to get tested. Don't forget about the exponential factor too. Therein lies the danger, because the fireworks don't begin for quite some time, but when they do, they'll be rapid, and we'll be looking at 1500 by breakfast each day.

Completely out of context and you know it. Of course I have elderly relatives, but I'm not going to lose my head to scare mongering over 1,500-1,600 cases out of 66,000,000+ people spread across 3 months with most of those cases having already recovered.

why are they ignoring the lockdown though is it because its a country that relies on tourism our tourism and all the other countries countrymen that visit them, yes it is and they have an elderly population because why? they lead healthy lives quite possibly lots of Italians smoke though maybe thats the reason lungs not good

The debate isn't why Italy has a more elderly population - or if - it's a fact that they rank 4th - the point I was addressing is that you can't compare two different countries with two different types of populations and circumstances and expect the same outcome.

You can see a clear shift in the media in the past few days.

I think they've realised that they've gone overboard with the fear mongering so now they're rushing to interview people who have recovered and most of those interviews cite mild symptoms.

It's like they've finally realised what damage they're causing and are trying to put the car in reverse whilst still at 70 mph.

What you think is irrelevant, that's the number of confirmed cases, a fact. There might be more that have gone under the radar, sure, but you don't know that and have no way of proving it. 1,500-1,600 is confirmed. Anything higher is purely speculation, nothing more.

The thing is though we don't know that it is rising. Like I said in my original post, they said 1,500 odd confirmed cases, but what you have to remember is that they started to count those cases a long time ago, so most of those cases have already recovered.

What the media needs to do is stop saying 'confirmed cases' and start saying 'new cases' next to the number 'recoveries.'

Yes there might be 150 new infections tomorrow, but out of the total 1,500ish, over 1,000 probably had it in January and February and are no longer active cases.

It's really frustrating that the press are allowed to just do this one sided reporting and scare mongering.

Yes there's over 1,500 confirmed cases, but it's pretty highly like that all of the cases they confirmed in January and February have recovered now.

The number of people currently, right now, at this exact time, carrying the virus and being contagious, is much lower than 1,500 odd.

Even if the theories were correct that it's ten times worse than we think, it can't be THAT bad because people aren't going to hospital en masse, they're treating it the same way as flu and getting over it for the most part, bar the unfortunate, tiny minority.

Even if the theories were correct that it's ten times worse than we think, it can't be THAT bad because people aren't going to hospital en masse, they're treating it the same way as flu and getting over it for the most part, bar the unfortunate, tiny minority."

Germany has had more confirmed cases than Britain. but Britain has more deaths than Germany. I feel Britain will struggle to keep up with the demand for hospital beds as soon as the numbers start to rise. which is probably going to be before the end of march

Do we become immune to the virus after we contract it and recover or can we get it again?

I think we have 8 or 9 cases here in Philadelphia, as of earlier today. As of tonight, all non essential businesses have been ordered to close. All bars are closed, restaurants can only serve take out or delivery.

I personally think we are over reacting and panicking, but we will only know when its all over.

On the one hand the press are disgustingly irresponsible in sending people into a panic since this virus hasn't really hit us yet.

However those who are confused as to why there is such an extreme reaction worldwide need to look at what's happening. This virus is extremely contagious and deadly to the old and vulnerable. The recent pandemics were not near as lethal. Do you realise new York is riddled with it already?

It's hard to know if the UK has made the right call, being that we have a different reality at the moment. But I think it's academic as very soon it will get to a tipping point here where we have to lockdown too

it's a similar story here in Europe I don't think all these countries would be on lock down if it wasn't serious.

"I know everybody is probably sick of hearing about coronavirus but does anybody suspect that the gov isn't telling us the whole story. Yes we know it's bad but during SARS or bird flu I've never seen a reaction like this in how quickly some countries are changing there stance, lockdown, cancelling events or gatherings over a certain number , virtually grounding flights asking manufacturers to make ventilators and offering to buy as many as they can make, shutting bars and restaurants I know it's a pandemic and its costing thousands of lives but these moves are all unprecedented so how bad is it going to get and does the gov or world health organisation have estimates I just get the feeling they do know how bad it's going to get and for how long it's going to last or are they really clueless about it"

Watch Contagion a film from 2011. It's close as you get to the answer.

This current strain is very contagious and on the right people deadly.

What's bad is some carriers don't show symptoms.

Wether it's a convenient opportunity to shed some of the population I don't know. Lockdown seems to be the only combat, aswell the hygene advice. As they've left it a bit late and it's probably been hear longer than they know or letting on.

We catch coronaviruses all the time, but they tend to just cause a mild cold-like illness, so barely register.

A strain of it a few years had everyone worried, but it didn't really get a foothold - you'll remember it as 'SARS' but it was also called 'SARS-CoV' (the CoV being CoronaVirus of course).

This new, or 'novel' strain is commonly called 'Covid-19' but this doesn't actually refer to the virus itself, but the disease that it causes (the 'd' in Covid meaning 'Disease').

The actual strain of virus that causes Covid-19 is called 'SARS-Cov-2' which clearly shows it's relation to the scarier coronavirus strain from a few years back, but the good thing is - whilst it IS a new strain, it shares enough bits of it's DNA with the previous SARS strain, that testing kits from one work with the other, so they could be produced faster, and Vaccine work had already started on the previous strain, so they are ahead of the curve a little on that too.

There's lots of elderly people in Britain. I'm sure you've got elderly people belong to you. do u still think there's nothing to worry about"

I agree, the lockdown has little to do with reducing deaths in healthy people, it's partly about reducing the likelihood of them passing it on to vulnerable people, including the elderly.

The other big issue is controlling the rate and spread of infection. If we all carry on in a cavalier fashion it will result in millions becoming infected very quickly.

The vast majority won't die, but a significant minority will present themselves at hospital, a spike in demand which would overwhelm the NHS.

I don't know what's so difficult to understand.

If you can work from home, do it.

If you can't, take what precautions you can to prevent contact with others, to prevent catching it.

If you have it, isolate, if a close family member has it, isolate,if over 70 isolate, if in an at risk group isolate.

Use common bloody sense, and maybe we'll get through this without losing too many.

"I haven't seen panic buying like this before.

Honestly, I think the press have a lot to answer for, they've done more damage than Covid-19 has and probably will."

China: 81,051 cases, 3,230 dead, 68,770 recovered

Why people are panicking is beyond me. Just look at it. 3 months...1,000 people out of 66,000,000, mostly mild cases reported.

In the interests of proper news reporting they should say for example 500 confirmed cases, 450 confirmed recoveries etc.

I think maybe the swap from daily to weekly figures might have panicked people, but then daily figures still seem to be getting to the press.

Honestly, I think the press have a lot to answer for, they've done more damage than Covid-19 has and probably will.

China: 81,051 cases, 3,230 dead, 68,770 recovered

Italy: 27,980 cases, 2,158 dead, 2,749 recovered

Iran: 14,991 cases, 853 dead, 4,996 recovered

Spain: 9,942 cases, 342 dead, 530 recovered

South Korea: 8,320 cases, 75 dead, 1,137 recovered

Germany: 7,272 cases, 17 dead, 67 recovered

France: 6,650 cases, 148 dead, 12 recovered

US: 4,661 cases, 85 dead, 17 recovered

Switzerland: 2,330 cases, 19 dead, 4 recovered

UK: 1,553 cases, 56 dead, 53 recovered

(reported on the BBC) just saying.....

Yes recovery rate is far greater than the fatality rate but surely if we follow advice and we all prevented 1 death it's worth it"

I was replying to the guy that said "in the interests of proper news reporting they should say for example 500 confirmed cases, 450 confirmed recoveries etc."

To say basically that they are telling us, what you do with that information is your choice as with all information. I do think Bojo was a bit half-arsed yesterday and let the insurance industry off the hook (many firms.businesses cannot call in their insurance because the government is not demanding people stay away from places, just advising, bit like when Bush stated that 911 was an "act of war" and immediately negated thousands of insurance policies..... (if he had left it at terrorism then people could have claimed, the brilliance of leaders eh?)

I saw this yesterday and thought it was a simple way of describing the Government’s plan for dealing with it. It may not be completely accurate from an expert’s point of view but it made sense to me.

The plan is to segregate all vulnerable people (older, ill and at risk) - let’s call this group A.

Anyone looking after the older, ill and at risk can be group B.

The general population generally healthy can be group C.

Group C needs to go about its business keeping the country moving, kids at school for as long as possible, the healthy working either from home or if necessary at the workplace.

Group B looks after group A and avoids contact with C.

Group C is allowed to contract the virus at a manageable rate and because it’s generally healthy it can cope with it better than group A (and starts to create herd immunity).

Group A and B are almost self-isolating without the virus to avoid putting strain on the NHS and reducing the risk of getting the virus and then needing the NHS.

Group C (the generally healthy) go through the cycle of contracting the virus, self-isolating and being looked after by healthy family members, friends and the local community.

Anyone who has complications gets looked after by the NHS while groups A and B are kept away. The NHS are not strained by A and B while its looking after complicated cases in C, those who really need their help.

As group C comes full circle and recovers it divides into groups that take group B’s position looking after group A therefore then allowing group B to go through the cycle.

With B and C through the cycle,

A is free to have NHS to itself because B and C are now clear from illness and infection and hopefully have a degree of immunity from getting it again this season.....

Hope this helps.

Everyone has a job to do for the above to work.

Stay safe and keep washing those hands, follow the advice and let’s pull together and help each other through this.

"I think this is hiding a much bigger story that they don't want us to know about.

I agree

A massive increase in road tax has been buried in this years budget, crypto currencies and stock losing value, 5g possibly being used for crowd control, police being given extra powers to detain...

but what has that got to do with this virus that's spreading around the world "

Other news is being buried by coronavirus news, that was my point.

Most definitely more to this then they are letting on.

I think I'm in the P'd off group.

I'll be making like a squirrel and hibernating, where's me nuts.

"I still can’t believe people are still saying there’s nothing to worry about! Are they on a different planet to the rest of us?!

They will be the same people that blame others when someone in their family dies.

I notice on the forums people are still planning to meet etc. What about social distancing? Does that not apply to them in the swinging community? Mind you, nothing surprises me on here these days.

Everyone has to be responsible and make sacrifices.

Exactly. I’m shocked at what I’m reading and hearing. Things aren’t being enforced as they are hoping everyone will use their common sense. Clearly not the case. "
