Now that's very difficult to answer as I have watched films that I would never ever watch again, like Jaws, diabolically poor special effects but usually if I watch an advert, it either looks good or not, that's when I make a choice, however unless my friend treats me, I don't go to the cinema and wait until its on tv. And there is no way I could name and shame any.

I suppose there is a genre of films I wouldn't watch like war films, foreign films but like I said, if I see an advert for a film and it looks good, the genre is irrelevent

Given the fact that they struggled for funding and how we are so used to CGI effects now it has to remain a classic...Robert Shaw was fab and they wrote the script as they went, it changed filming techniques as well...it just hasnt aged well

Obviously chick flicks. I love comedies but stay away from utter toilet humour. And I love horror movies that truly scare but not the torture porn type that is simply graphic gory violence for graphic gory violence's sake. It's not scary, its just sick.

I was off sick for three months. My daughter, to " cheer me up" decided to spend her time entertaining me. She didn't go to uni on Tuesdays so it was movie day.

I was a captive audience...the Ring Trilogy, Harry Potter...then she read to me Terry Pratchet...I was ready for Dr Kervorkian.

Can't stand romantic comedies or chick flicks they are just so dull and manupulative.

Won't watch anything by James Cameron, overblown, overlong, insulting shite.

Won't watch any film by Richard Curtis... do I really have to explain that one?

Avoid most American comedy because it's just so... urgh... purile.

Not into anything overly-macho unless it's either tongue in cheek, or has some really good fighting choreography (I like a good punch up in a film )

Avoid chinese comedies, they are usually very childish and slapstick.

Avoid french comedy - don't like farce it's irritates me!

Old fashioned Westerns and War films are horribly dull... so are most modern ones wih the odd exception.

Avoid Russian film mostly... soooooo depressing lol!

Avoid 'most' of the Hollywwod big budget stuff..most of the time it's all 'style over substance' and any message they feel the need to convey ... and boy do they feel the need, is usually what most of new by the time we were 5

...If I think of anything else I'll pop back

Once watched a film called "the butterfly and the diving bell" it was a true story about an unfortunate french chap. It was all in sub-titles and I thought it was going to be shit. I only watched it after reading an article about the guy in question and how he wrote it. It was a shit but amazing film in one go if that makes sense. Worth a look if you like inspiring true stories.

Sci-fi and horror...both bore me the tears

Anything that features loads of poorly done digital effects (see above)

Anything overly violent purely for the sake of it

Anything sloppy

Anything with a complicated plot..

Anything I know will leave me in tears at the end...the wife thinks its hilarious when I start with the water works..

My choice of reading matches my choice of films actually plus anything real life that involves a tragedy...especially when people have lost kids or loved ones in horrible circumstances...sorry to say, but I am one for burying my head in the sand in those situations....feelings sometimes need to be protected.

Based on true storys like Iron lady, kings speech, most british films.

Horror can be an ok genre but torture porn movies, hotel, saw etc are just a gratuitous excuse for getting excited by extreme violence and i find the idea sick and degrading.

to be honest i do think there is far too much violence in movies, that said some of the greatest movies ever have been very violent take the godfather trilogy, but a film that relies on violence alone is usually a peice of shit

Musicals (The exception being Rocky Horror!)

Period Drama - and generally anything with Colin Firth/Hugh Grant in.

Anything with Steve Martin in it (post Planes, Trains & Automobiles)

Anything with Robin Williams in it (post Good Morning Vietnam)

Anything with Jennifer Aniston (the exception being Horriblr Bosses)

Xmas movies (the exception being Scrooged)

Tbh - these days I'd much rather watch an entire series of 24, Fringe, True Blood, The Walking Dead or The Wire back to back with pizza and beer than go sit in a cinema where i can't slouch, smoke or go for a pee without missing 'the important bit' and not be able to rewind.

I will watch most genres of films, but there are some actors I cannot watch. Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Clive Owen... to name but a few

Some Bollywood is hilarious! Ok I can't understand it but they dance at every opportunity.

I made a "film" with an ex which I can't bare to watch now. Not because feelings for her have taken a turn for the worse....more because it's shite. The story line was loosely based on ghostbusters, but was piss poor at best. The cinematography is well...amateur to say the least and the acting was....hmmm....'all over the place'.

A lot of people are the same, but Jim Carrey has done some really good films, The Truman show, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is my fav.
