Your first car is like you first love, you never forget it.
Mine was a metallic bottle green Vauxhall Viva. It had a black vinyl roof and was so basic it never had the optional extra of a cigarette lighter. it was a crock of shit, but i loved that car! |

I learnt to drive in a variety of cars as it was basically any car Dad had going spare from the garage for me to practise in.....my first car when I passed my test was a converted white Fiesta van, reg GBV 71W, it had a dodgy starter motor so I had to carry a hammer round in the glovebox and when it cut out I just popped the bonnet and gave the starter a tap to get it going again....nowadays prob wouldn't be able to get to the starter motor and would get arrested for carrying offensive weapon |

Mark II Vauxhall Cavalier. It was a two-door and had one door wired shut cos the lock was fooked so passengers had to get in it a la Starsky & Hutch.
Once, I went out in it when it started raining, so I put the wipers on and on the third swish they flew off and landed in the road. As I opened the door to go and get them the door fell off.
I left the pile of crap where it was and went and bought an Austin Princess which was an even bigger pile of shite!
I'm much better at picking cars these days. |

Mine was a blue ford fiesta. I was the first of all my mates to get a car so it went everywhere, always with a car full.
Remember going out in york one night. Got back to the car and realised we had no petrol to get back, no money cos we were all daft enough to spend our very last pennies, and being 17 no credit card for back up.
I swore I would never sell it if it got us back in one piece. It was totally chugging as we pulled into my street but it didn't let us down. Did I sell her? yeh, I traded her in for a younger model, I betrayed her and all she had done was be loyal. Wonder where she is now? |

She probably went back to York and waited and waited for you to come back but eventually fell into the drug scene and ended up selling her chassis down a back alley to the first Allegro that would have it. You utter bastard! |

mine was a peugoet 309, with a sun roof.
the thing i remember most is the roof leaked, no matter what i did, and when i went round corners the water sloshed around the back seat well. lol , but I loved it, the freedom to go where i wanted was amazing.. |

My first VW T2 Camper van was 6v lol. I've seen brighter candles than those headlights, but I wish I still had it - would be worth a fortune now |

An Austin A35 Countryman ... basically a van with windows and a back seat! The engine was shot so I shoehorned a Riley 1.5 engine and gearbox in it. That was OK until I blew the engine up so I replaced the egine and gearbox to one from an MGB! That lasted a fortnoght until some wally pulled out in front of me leaving me no room to stop. |

An ugly as sin horrible green coloured SAAB 95 Estate car of 1972 vintage, a column change gearbox, 8-track cartridge stereo, HEATED SEATS (remember this was a 1972 car!) and 7 seats which when folded a certain way made for a great passion wagon - once you got over the looks that is! Ha-ha, great thread thanks for starting this made me smile and remember some good times |

The amazing thing about this thread, apart from the memories, is the fact that cars were painted such disgusting colours in the 70's. I had a beige Mk2 Capri. who in their right mind would buy a car from new in beige? |

had one and an opel kadette before i started driving, and a mk3 escort one i passed, lasted 7 days until it went upside down over a 30ft grass bank.
then got another that rotted away and finally a mk2 cav sri replica. it all went downhill from there |

First car ( and several ones after) were a metros.. first one was a 1.1c got it with not a bit of rust on it.
Was great little car to learn to drive in.
but after passing test I traded up to a R114 GTa.. so basically a newer model metro with a bigger engine.

Mine was a peugeot 306 to learn in... would have been perfect had i had a licence and not leant it to a family member who crashed it and didn't tell me... then everything on it proceeded to fail and then the DVLA took it away because it was parked in the wrong place with no tax... ... but my first proper car ( and the one i have now lol ) is an Austin mini mayfair and its better than my first love.. because it gives me signs when its gonna let me down... and i can always fix it! |

First car I drove regularly was my mum's Black BMW 318iS. It was an R reg if I remember correctly. Very quick! The first car I bought for myself was a black peugeot 206 1.6 16v with leather interior and all the optional extras. I loved it. Then some wanker reversed a lorry into it and smashed it through a wall. I was devastated! Never had a car I loved so much since! Currently driving a 2008 Renault Megane. I advise anyone reading this to NEVER BUY a Renault! Or a Fiat for that matter. |

1963 rambler soft top. I'm not that old just bought a old car. The front seats would fold down even with the back seat to make a queen size bed. Perfect car for a horny 17 yr old |
