Chelmsford

I don't know about other parts of the country but the Essex roads are crumbling and the potholes look like open cast mines. Even the M11 is almost too risky for motorcycles to change lanes safely.

I see people weaving in their lanes to avoid them.

The party with road repairs in their next manifesto gets my vote.

East Sussex

Sussex is awful. The roads are in a dreadful state, I don't remember them ever being this bad.

It's your local council that you need to approach I think

You should see some of the roads in East London. Not fit for purpose.

Chams or Socials

Shropshire and staffordshire are awful, they dont seem to repair them like they used to. Instead of cleaning the hole out and lining it with tar then filling it and sealing around the edges they just throw tarmac in the hole then drive over it with a van then within a couple of weeks they start crumbling again.

Shropshire council keep saying they have no money but can find £1k per day to pay a consultant to see what can be done about the roads!!

It’s the fault of successive government’s not investing in infrastructure. But hey look on the bright side the majority of us are a few quid better of due to lower income tax etc

We drive on the left? Or is that, "what's left of the road"?

We have, wells and mineshafts not potholes in Dorset.

It depends on the road,

Motorways and major trunk roads are the highways agency.

Local roads are the county council.

I did try to claim once for a tyre more bother than its worth and got nowhere. Gave up after sending the 5th lot of documentation to them.

It does wind me up you pay Road tax and the vast majority of fuel price is fuel duty, and then don’t for get the vat on the fuel and the price of the vehicle.

Pretty much a universal issue, I think.

Kent always used to be shite, and nowadays Orkney is certainly getting that way too.

Derby

One pothole in Birmingham cost me £3700 in repairs alone and because it had a dot of yellow paint, it means the highways agency didnt have to pay out.

My next car is going to be a Sherman tank

Heaton Park Manchester

The problem stems from poor design. A lot of roads are surfaced with porous surfacing to assist with drainage. In the eighties the majority of road surfacing was impervious and relied on surface drainage resulting in increased spray.

Someone decided it was better to reduce spray by allowing the water to "drain through" the top layer. However this results in failure of the adhesive bond and as soon as one stone is dislodged, the road surface starts to unravel.

(nearly 40 years in the industry)

My Own Little World

Northamptonshire roads are pretty dire, but as the County Council are broke and had to be bailed out by the Gov a couple of years back, I don't believe we will see improvements any time soon.

Lincolnshire has it's fair share of potholes too. Driving along unlit roads in the dark knowing there are potholes lurking is rather unnerving.

There has been such a lack of investment that I am sure it is not cost effective in the long run..

There was a massive pot hole at the end of my road here for months (maybe over a year) and now the drains have been blocked for longer.

Report them, they don't inspect the roads looking for pot holes, as long as below 40mm They will normally fill them. I have reported many all on main roads or highway's and have been filled.

I've recently got reimbursed by the council for a N/S front tyre trashed by a pothole.
