Very soon I will finally be able to buy a new kitchen. I have never planned anything like this.
It needs to be as cost effective as possible. I am only going to get one shot.
Any tips, recommendations of what and what and not to do would be appreciated |

Me and my fiancé have recently bought a new house, the kitchen is a really good size but the design is terrible.
Just on my opinion I’d avoid these fancy type drawers/cupboards.
We’ve got one of those tall pull out on rails racking thing, and two cupboards that slide out, they’re pretty cool in their concept but aren’t very practical.
In terms of things I find easier - an electric hob is much easier to clean than gas rings.
A tap with a flexi hose end is fantastic!
And lastly, they’re not cheap generally ranging from £500 - £1000. A Samsung dual cook electric oven, it’s got a dividing plate that allows you to split the oven in half and cook at two different temperatures. Also has a really cool easy to use touch screen interface. I hated ours at first but love it now I’ve got it fully sussed out. |

IKEA. Even if you don't buy it from them, they have a 3D planner and non-pushy consulting team (not on commission) so you can take your time and get it right.
I've installed a few IKEA kitchens and I like them, but they have a few quirks your installer will have to be aware of (and likely are). |

I install kitchens for a living and there's many factors to consider, how big is your kitchen, dose it need rewiring, plumbing and plastering, most do especially if it an older property, look around and get plenty of quotes, howdens in my opinion are crap but they have a notice board that fitters advertise on, once you've found a kitchen you like then look for a good recommended fitter, some fitters do supply themselves and could probably get you a better deal plus it's all about how good the fitter is and most will do all the other jobs such as plumbing etc, do plenty of research and don't fall for the marketing crap that salesman use, good luck with your project. |

I have a Habitat kitchen in Beech wood with a butchers block that I never use. It looks fantastic but, wood can split when wet so needs a lot of care. My Neff appliances are superb, would highly recommend them. As someone mentioned earlier, the gadget type drawers are not always practical. I've had a white kitchen before and wouldn't again, especially with a dog! |

Neff appliances are brilliant and if you can, have a fitted oven/double oven at a height that suit you so you dont have to bend down to take anything out.
I bought a gorgeous range cooker is wanted for years for my last house and wont ever have one again as it sat too low for ease of use.
Lots of sockets as said before and get good under cupboard lighting to make your workspaces well lit.

I had similar issue. Sounds daft but I designed it in Minecraft and it came out very well.
Wicks do some very good designer kitchen's and they always have sales on. |

dont buy corner cupboards or the carosel unit waste of time.
Buy a smaller unit or a smaller door one side and step the cupboard out in the corner.
1000 unit but one side has a 300 door into corner better acces to cupboard.
I wouldnt mind an arse stuck out of the cupboard, While your getting somthing out but sooner or later you wont.
Just fitted 3 400.00 worktops and new kitchen and now they want them coated.
As quoted consider your plugs and also consider having one of them fitted with a usb socket.
Handy charge point.
dont buy an american fridge freezer its harder to replace if they go wrong.
Couldnt get rid of one doing that kitchen nobody wanted a free american fridge freezer.
They did but couldnt transport it.
That went to heart foundation. |

When we moved into our house it had and expensive kitchen already fitted ! It was nice but after 10 years we fancied something different ! Got quoted £32,000 like for like ! I nearly died  anyway we had the kitchen sprayed for £1,400 changed the island worktop to quartz £1.500 a couple of appliances and it looks brand new x couldn’t be happier x |

When designing you kitchen, think of it as a production line.
Predation work top area, with draws for knives, chopping boards , pots & pans etc. Leading to cooker//oven area, with cooking utensils near by. Serving section next, with cupboards for plates etc and cutlery Draw. Then washing up clear section.
Lots and lots of sockets.
Most importantly an odds and sods draw. To put all that stuff you don't know what with in.

No never. It could do with a new one so I'm staring from scratch. When we moved into our house it had and expensive kitchen already fitted ! Ive just ordered mine through wren, ive basically gone for pretty much the same as rylan clarks (google his kitchen) ive gone for a vitage copper island though.
Im a mega foody and love to cook so my kitchen is fully designed with that in mind. They also have a virtual reality room so you can walk round your kitchen.

Nip in and have a look as they start very reasonably and will print designs up so you can go to other places and compare.
Avoid magnet and homebase ive had magnet in my previous hous it was scrap at 5 years old. Be careful of cheap quartz too many companies sell it very cheap... what your getting is as little as 30% actual quartz the rest is resin. They stain and warp |
