Always my fave thread

Got my makeup table sorted. Just need to get storage. Didnt think pink glitter would be my thing but learn something new every day lol. On the hunt now for the perfect barstool and makeup mirror.

Also am looking at makeup remover balms. Seen one on cult beauty and its supposed to good. anyone tried them. Im sick to death of going through acres of makeup remover pads and micellar water

At the moment I'm playing with my hair. Still undecided about whether to chop it all off or not, it's still at a highly irritating length. Trying to capitalise on the natural texture of it, experimenting. I hate straightening it, it never stays and I have images of setting it on fire.

My next makeup experiment will be with a pink duochrome highlighter I got because why not.

People rate the Simple Human ones but I like my money too much.

I have an adjustable ring light from Boots No 7, regularly on offer. Got it with points

Have you tried sea salt spray? My hair is wavy and a bit wirey to be honest, when it was shorter is kept the natural wave in without looking like I'd been pulled out a hedge

Skin care I love Liz Earle cleanse and polish also her super balm is great for tonnes of things from lips to cuticles.

Just picked up a new mascara recently think it’s L’Oréal called ‘bambi eyes’ which is great as I’ve not the thickest of lashes.

Not for years. I tried blowing it to encourage smoothness first, which works for a bob but doesn't now. I use lots of anti frizz stuff. Air drying gives the least frizzy effect, but the waves are limp. I'm trying to encourage the wave. Insert rabbit hole of curly hair research here.

I air dry mine and use salt spray to reduce the frizz and keep the waves in place. Found a lot of the anti fizz stuff left my hair limp. Some hair mouse is good as long as you don't go overboard also, too much pulls the waves out

Just looked up what plopping was, cause where I'm from plops is poo

Anyway think it's worth a shot, I use a hair turban to keep the waves in my hair, if I don't the weight of the water pulls the wave out

I came across it by accident and ditto.

Yes. I think it'll be an overnight job for me, my hair takes an age to dry.

I really want to embrace my texture and throw away the straighteners.

Oh I love these threads! I've found a brilliant lipgloss that really lasts thanks to Goodnitegirl's post in an earlier one, some epic mascara...

Soooo, I'm going to be attempting to do my first smokey eye soon. Are there any palettes anyone would recommend? Particularly good pigmentation. I've not worn eyeshadow for a long time and part of me is tempted to go to a makeup counter but I'm a bit time poor so any advice about brands to have a look out for would be gratefully received.

Johnson's baby lotion (pink bottle) this is what I used before all the different make up removers and I've tried many different types of removers

Aldi make up wipes I love them excellent at removing makeup and skin feels good after. 5 in 1 I think it's called

Colour scheme? (Not all smokey eyes are black) Budget?

All brands have hit and miss products. The most reliable consistent reviewer I know is Temptalia (doesn't review everything, US based so not all products readily available, but her reviews are unusually objective)

Unfortunately foundation can only do so much - look at your skincare to treat the dry patches. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid is an easy recommendation.

I'm not sure about palettes they have for it, but if by no budget you really mean no budget, check out Pat McGrath. Their eyeshadow is insanely good (but prices... yeah. A single is £25, full size palette over £100). Huda tend to do well in reviews but there's some misses in there.

Be wary of pressed glitter: it's a newish trend in eyeshadow. Not all of it is eye safe per the FDA (EU regulations are different, but most of the beauty media I consume is American. And plastic particles in the eye are possible)

If you're prepared to wait and pay customs charges, Colour Pop also do really well.

Don't forget your eye primer.

Purito do a fantastic cleansing balm, it removes make up and sun cream but keeps fragrance to a minimum which lessons irritation. I wouldn’t recommend facial wipes as they have been proven to pull at the skin which can cause premature ageing (also not great for the environment). I have sensitive skin but when I use this paired with the cerave cleanser it works a treat.

I suffer from this during autumn and winter as well, I have been using Cerave moisturising cream (the one in a tub rather than a tube) and L’Oréal true match foundation. I pretty sure it’s the moisturiser that has calmed my skin down though so I would recommend.

I don't, I'm afraid, but my suspicion is to agree that diet/supplementation might be at the root of it.

My hair is now a pale pink after spending most of the evening stripping the grey colour out and bleaching up my roots. For anyone who uses bleach or colours their hair a lot, I can highly recommend Osmo Chromaplex bond builder. It's a great (and MUCH cheaper) dupe for Olaplex x

Look for a pore blurring primer. Benefit Porefessional is good but expensive, Maybelline Baby Skin is supposed to be a dupe.

I love these, the colour options are endless! Good on metallics. And I'm a sucker for the quirky packaging.

I gather dewy/ luminous is better for most things as you get older. I'm still very much tied to matte.

Its brilliant stuff, i use this and a setting powder and I'm done.

It covers everything with just a smidge of concealer underneath and doesnt look heavy either.

You could try OPI nail envy..worked on my crappy nails and comes in 2 finishes and also colour now and invest in a good quality glass nail file as it doesnt split the nail and let moisture in to separate the nail layers making the nail stronger also avoplex nail oil for the nail bed.

Although not prob the cheapest solution but it works and you can find nail envy and OPI products in certain outlets now

Nails: drink 1.5-2 litres of water a day, and get a bottle of CND Solar oil. Rub it into your cuticles before bed, your nails will be strong and growing in no time.

Skin: vitamin c moisturisers to bring back the glow. The body shop does a really good one called Glow Protect Lotion with spf 30, and Nivea does a very good body one with Vitamin C and Q10. I get a lot of comments about how soft my skin is, it’s definitely regular use of these moisturisers.

Primer: the ordinary high spreadability fluid. It’s amazing.

"Fake eyelashes..

The best tips I ever received...

Don't be afraid to trim the inner corners down. I trim just under 1cm off mine and just make sure I wear a black liner and put mascara on my inner lashes.

Leave the glue to almost dry before attempting to stick them on. Wet glue just makes them ping off and gets everywhere if you've not got a steady hand.

I also go over mine with tweezers to clamp them to my own lashes (especially on the inner corners)

Ultimately, practice makes perfect. I find some lashes easier than others to work with x

I've fallen down the "curly girl" rabbit hole haha. I think I might be committing some serious energy into seeing if I can encourage a curl in my hair. My preliminary experiments suggest that my hair might actually be properly curly, not just wavy, if I completely change how I wash and brush my hair.

Treated "normally" my hair has a bit of a bend to it, won't hold being straightened, and is frizzy. Plopping without any other changes produces somewhere between high level waves and low level curls. I think if I make more changes I might actually have curly hair.

I made a Body Lava dupe today. Not 100% sure how it'll last in the wild, but I crushed up a (Revolution) highlighter with a few handfuls of body lotion. Gives my skin a sheen/shimmer. Definitely worth a go. I did it in pink, because I'm pale, but I imagine gold would work well for darker.

Very easy, just crush and mix.

I get Quick Fix Facials. Used to be in Boots, not sure now. The sheet ones have definitely taken off, Korean skincare etc. Some of the pricier brands do tubes.

If the sheet ones work then more power to you! I just find them messy and they seem to have too much product in them.

"Anyone on here dermaplane? Very tempted , also getting sucked into the idea of dermarolling"

I’ve had microdermabrasion a couple of times.

Now that is awesome as makeup goes on so smooth and even.

"Is there anyway to achieve highlights in my hair without bleach? I'm not sure high lift tint is the way forward "

It's not something I know much about, but I suspect not

I've found gradual improvement with mild chemical exfoliant. I don't use the regular stronger stuff, as my skin is pretty sensitive.

I love make up, but I’m shite at it. I do my brows, mascara and foundation and that’s about it.

Can anyone point me in the direction of good YouTube tutorials? I want to be able to contour and do proper make up shit!

Urban decay pallets are nice, but for a good budget dupe try one from Makeup Obsession or Revolution

My favourite foundation has always been Doublewear

The best eyelash glue is the Duo one. Holy grail.

Can’t help with dermaplaning, but I’ve had two sessions of dermarolling and can see a huge difference this time.

Pores are barely visible, skin incredibly smooth, lots of comments. My skin seems to be drinking up whatever I put on it, which is now Vitamin C moisturiser by the bucketload.

It did peel 2 days after, which was awesome to have to explain to my fwb after a vigorous session...the sweat and exertion seemed to trigger it. So awkward

Look at Robert Welsh. He's realistic, some do stuff only designed for camera.

Other than that, practice. Everyone is shit when they start.

I've seen some good stuff from Wayne Goss too.

The blog Temptalia has tutorials among the reviews, and I find pictures and writing rather than videos helpful sometimes.

Yesterday I asked for advice at Mac and they suggested my idea might be going too far.

You know you're out there when someone at Mac tells you to slow your roll

I’m intrigued, what’s your idea?

I’m no expert but, I’ve had makeup lessons.

Bronze smokey eye and purple lip.

I've had lessons. I'm meaning to be over the top, and I'm high contrast. I think I can pull it off.

Lol, go for it!

One thing about makeup is individual style that it gives you. If you walk into the cosmetics dept in say boots and they stop you to see how your put together, you’ve either got it so right there jealous.... or pantomime beckons!

I LOVE dermaplane treatments. My skin glows afterwards and my makeup just seems to go on so much better.

I've had some dermarolling in conjunction with PRP. Pretty much got rid of acne scarring on my cheeks. I keep up with PRP treatments every 6-9 months

Has anyone had their brows laminated? A beautician friend of mine is doing a lash lift and tint for me later on and has asked if I'd like to be a model for before/after pics for brow lamination (She's just qualified).

I don't actually know of anyone who's had it done.

My eyebrows are shockingly unruly, grow in every direction possibly. Hopefully this will help...

Yes I treated myself to a million dollar facial when they had it on offer... Had it twice now! Deffo notice an improvement in makeup application and my skin absorbs moisturiser and serums more effectively.

My local beauty salon is great.

The girls are lovely and friendly.

They have no issues with a scruffy metal head getting his nails and eyebrows done every two weeks.

They all know about Tara and love seeing pictures from my nights out.

Derma rollers are horrid, I'd recommend a dermal stamp, which us very similar but it doest roll.

The lamination was like a perm lotion used to fix the hairs upwards. Then they were waxed/plucked/trimmed and tinted. The certainly look a bit fuller but I'm not sure it's something I'd have done regular. Just a similar effect to brushing up brows with a brow gel or soap.

The lash lift is fab. I've got stubby little light brown lashes and they're now curled and black. Really opened up my eyes

The fake body lava I made works an absolute treat. Superdrug I Heart Revolution concealer crushed and mixed with Superdrug Vitamin E moisturiser. I used pinky highlighter given my skin tone.
