So watching the documentary on child labour used on picking coffee beans, for each Starbucks cup of coffee the farmer gets 1p
The picker gets a small percentage of that, kids aged 10 working 12 hour days to earn $6.00

If everyone abandoned buying the coffee the families out there would starve. Unfortunately out there its normal, it's a third world problem that we take issue to, it'll never stop unfortunately. |

better than earning nothing as there is no work. nothing can be done about it as its done in countrys where wages are poor, if wages went up, means you will pay more then people would start moaning. |

While its not right you have to consider what $6 is worth to them. To us it is nothing, to them it can be everything. |

It's equivalent to around 39p per hour and is never justified, not even in Guatemala. |

Just think 1pof every cup of coffee goes to the farmer, if Starbucks put their coffee up by 20p we’d still buy it, the farmer could pay better money to his workers, but you’re all missing the biggest point here..Child Labour!!!
Both Nespresso and Starbucks claim they have no child labour policies.. |

It’s about the same as a driver earns in Nigeria - $80 per month and is enough to buy water food and rent for a family, the alternative is crime or begging |

It's terrible I know but they are highly trained. Their tiny fingers make them perfect for picking coffer beans.
Unfortunately this is just how the world works. Everything we buy comes down to some form of modern slavery or child labour at its root. |

Pressure from consumers will soon change their policies. All it will take is for all of us to withdraw our support and make it clear why. See how soon they change then.
Starbucks is all very right on with its latest telly ad. Why can't it put that social awareness into action? |
