Play a podcast on a subject you're interested in. It will take your mind off whatever / whoever is occupying your mind right now and you'll soon relax enough to find you are struggling to stay awake. |

This works like charm for me. It can stop you listening to your inner monologue and other distracting things.
Either get a clock that ticks audibly or you can download a metronome app and set it to 60 and not loud. Get comfortable for sleeping, shut your eyes and put all your concentration into the ticking. You can do thing like count ticks (1-10 and then start over for example) and visualise the numbers nice and large. Shut out everything and focus on that ticking.
It's monotonous and uninteresting so you should drop off. It really does work wonders for me.

You've traveled so deep now your getting near sleep feel the sleep enveloping you, the world is millions of miles away, nothing can touch you, sleep now.
