There are reports of Corona jumping species to pet dogs etc.. the WHO have raised their concern to something similar to.. this is fucking serious..

If I could pick a species for the virus to spread to it would be crocodiles and sharks..

Won't happen though .. but what if a shark or crocodile feasted on a human with Corona..? Who knows..

What will the government policy be if out pet dogs catch it..

Tom gets mocked for saying Wake Up People's..

You know the song Don't blame on the sunshine.

Don't blame on it on the birds, or animals, again antibiotics, chemical industry, etc... I do feel sorry for our Asian cousins they always get blamed for it all because they have a more open thought to the phrase. " IF IT MOVES You eat it. A bird takes a couple of weeks maybe months to migrate, where 1 planes can make a journey around world over and over again.

It's not doomsday, like Hnc1 it fade as fast as it merged. Watch that big rock in the sky folks.

You know what surprises me most about the Covid 19 virus?

The fact that some people are so stupid that Corona beer has seen sales slump because people think that's how you catch it.

The fact some people are so dumb they think boycotting their local chinese takeaway will stop the spread of Covid 19.

I don't know why I'm so surprised at total ignorance, but I am.

Locally people who run a Chinese takeaway went to China for new year & came back. They were all tested back here on the island but negative results. This does happen each year. One of my local ones closes completely for about 3 weeks while the owning family goes home to visit relatives. The risk is theoretical but exists because of this. I've often remarked in the past how the staff in another always changes after Chinese new year. Think they have a swap round lol.

He’s just trying to encourage panic and that’s what a troll does on an online forum. It’s as though he’s an editor of the Daily Mail. He makes statements but his statements bear no reference to the truth so for me he is a troll.

Perspective is needed, yes things could get worse but at the moment this country is relatively free of the virus.

Yep mad times, millions of locusts in Africa and Arab states, wars in the middle east, virus deseases, droughts, floods, earthquakes and volcanoes, it's all looking a bit apocolyptic.

Keep positive.

"Wish people would stop calling Tom a troll. He asks some good questions, opens interesting threads, can be controversial but always provides answers with sound logic. He never ever ever insults or berates anyone. We may not agree with what he says but that's the point of debate. It's quite entertaining actually. But please don't refer to him as a troll. They are horrible spiteful people. That's not Tom at all.

You think he uses sound logic?

I do actually yes. In his own way. He always backs up his answers. Trolls are different. They are hurtful and spiteful. I've never seen that in Tom

OK seen the arguments. I'm not here to be a Tom apologist but I just think the "troll" thing is a bit harsh, that's all. Yes he worries, yes his blood pressure is high, yes he has an irrational fear of crocodiles living in Essex but I was just making the point that he never insults or abuses anyone and responds to his own criticism with dignity.

I think that the words “crocodile” and “Essex” illustrate that he’s taking the piss so yes what he posts is deliberate and is intended to provoke a reaction. That’s atypical troll behaviour.

OK Mr Rocks, as I say I'm not a Tom apologist. We just have different definitions of troll. Let's see how this thread develops tomorrow "

Tom is certainly not a troll. He hurts no one and provides good light hearted entertainment. He doesn't take himself as seriously as some seem to think he does.

He possibly is a bit over anxious or has an irrational fear about about some things but that is a trait in many people.

I like him and think the forums are a better place with him in them.

I'll refrain from accusing him or anyone for being a troll. However the term forum troll was around well before these kids started to use it to bully others. It's not just about insults. It's a broad term and the definition as follows.

Definition: An "Internet troll" or "Forum Troll" is a person who posts messages to bait people to answer. Trolls often delight in sowing discord on the forums. A troll is someone who inspires flaming rhetoric, someone who is purposely provoking and pulling people into flaming discussion.

Ok Tom, playind devils advocate: let's take the harsh pesimistic perspective (the compassionate control and treat and quick vaccine development hope is better).

Yes it's a nasty virus, but the vast percentage of victims survive. Economic outlook strong, yes short term effects are bad, up to 2% die, but it is cleansing the economy, the 2% probably needed some healthcare anyway so that frees up money and people to be more productive robots in our cash driven society! Bring it on it's good for economic growth medium to long term!

Technically the lock down and quarantine China have put in place have caused their pollution to drop considerably.

Saying they deserve to die may be a bit extreme, but there is a potential silver lining to go along with the suffering.

Today it was announced that as of 9.00am an additional 35 people in this country were tested positive for the virus.

Seeing as they do not predict a vaccine for around the next 12 - 15 months this is very alarming.

2 people have tested positive twice but its believed that they were never tested to see if they were clear. So it's more likely they just still had the virus but felt better.

Spanish Flu which occurred during WW1 infected over 27% of the then Global population and had a fatality rate of around 10% (low estimate is around 50M people died)

I think it’s interesting to see how the virus is spreading and the measures put in place to try and control the spread of it. It’s given me a renewed sense of admiration for Scientific and Medical services.

It’s something for us all to learn from. It reminds us all that we are not untouchable. That we shouldn’t take things like our healthcare and liberty for granted. And more importantly, that we need to look out for each other. To try to ensure our wellbeing and that of others. To appreciate that life is short and to get on with living it.

Agreed but I think the message should be for people just to be sensible over the next few weeks, everyone take care of themselves and try not to make your risk of catching it any higher. It is only a short term thing and will soon be gone if people are sensible

Not just diabetes Tom, other conditions too. Age is a factor too. That’s kind of obvious though for most illnesses.

The chances of being eaten by a shark if you go in the sea is something like one in 8 million.

"I'm more concerned about why you want sharks to get Corona virus, what have they ever done to you op?"

Sharks are very important in the marine food chain. Without them, other species could flourish so much that coral reefs are destroyed. Humans kill hundreds of thousands of sharks every year (deliberately and cruelly), sharks kill very few people (usually accidentally, we are not on their menu).

Crocodiles do kill and eat people but that's not out of spite. If you were a hungry croc and you spot someone taking a drink from your river, you'd be quite justified in doing what crocodiles do so well.

Hardly evil, whereas mankind,,,,well we do tend to make a shit mess of the place. Maybe we deserve to be culled a bit, maybe viruses are just the earth fighting back.

All a lot of conjecture and hypothesis but,if we are going to start calling innocent animals evil, just for having sharp teeth then maybe we,as a species, need to take a good look in the mirror.

It's a very outdated term.

asthma, diabetes, ect are in the high risk category. Most people with these conditions would not consider themselves infirm.

no there hasnt been reports of it jumping to pets. There was a dog that they found had traces on its nasal cavity and mouth.. from environment contamination of sharing its surrounding with its human who had the virus....

The media reported with a front page that said that it had been found in a dog.. but if you read the whole thing it tells the actual story...

This led to 100s if not more animals being cruelly killed by worried pet owners... thrown from balconies etc.... when it was not even true

No worse than flu and most people don’t have flu vaccination. Just avoid public transport, stay 1.5 meters from anyone coughing or sneezing , wash hands regularly and keep them off your face and there’s practically zero risk

they havent ruled it out as it makes sense if need be.

Lets put it into perspective... over 89,000 cases... of which over 86'000 have recovered or are in recovery since December... Im still not worrying. Just being aware. I am actually considering making use of the plummeting holiday prices and booking another one for next month

32 people in the UK have been infected.

We have 67.5 MILLION people.

The media is spreading this news faster than the coronavirus can spread it. So I think we should be careful to not get too stressed.

Best ways to avoid it so far are to wash your hands regularly - and properly - especially when you’re out in public or have been out in public. Keep things clean and you’ll be fine.

Also, it affects the respiratory system and that generally means the majority of cases that end in death are vulnerable people who are either older or in worse health. Certainly people with asthma are going to have a slightly higher risk.

But it’s 2020 and viruses come around a lot. What happened here is clearly a case of not understanding it soon enough as the virus can take a couple or three weeks to show in people.

Just stay clean and pick your travels sensibly.

Normal hand wash is selling at mad amounts too. Of course they are going to raise the alerts. A bit like they do with other threats... its better to have the alert set too high.

It's here it can't be contained or stopped, it will spread throughout the population, self quarantine will not work a lot of people in the UK can't just afford to take time off work, many live from week to week as it is. Those on Zero hrs are going to go in work if they feel slightly Ill.

People on Universal Credit will be worried about sanctions if they are late or miss an appointment regardless of if the Government say they can.

School children most probably are going to be spreading it around if not already.

It's not a new virus it's been around along time, just because it's managed to infect people it's become a problem.

81% mild symptoms

14% severe symptoms

5% critically ill

Sadly some people will die thankfully it will probably only be a very small number, just because some one is Male, Female, Old, Young, Diabetic or are on meds with a low immune systems doesn't mean they are doomed does it ? NO it doesn't.
