Actually they are a top apex predator who evolved into a perfect killing machine to the point that they have remained unchanged for millions of years,long before we were around.
Much like sharks.
To avoid falling foul of them just avoid and certainly don't go jamming your thumb up it's butt!

Google tarantula hawk wasp, most evil thing I ever saw.
Paralises the tarantula then lays eggs inside, so when the eggs hatch the larvae eats the tarantula from the inside out whilst it is still alive.

They are indeed horrible. I was fortunate enough to see the migration crossing of the Mara river in Kenya a few years ago. There had been a horrific crossing a few days earlier, all the carcasses were there and stinking. Thankfully the Crocs were still full and sleeping as the herd crossed right in front of us. Like a biblical event, the most magnificent thing I’ve ever seen. |

Not a trance. They have a blindspot. So long as you don't touch the inside of their jaws or leave the blind spot, they won't snap shut.
The muscles crocs (and gators) have to open their jaws are extremely weak in comparison to the muscles used to snap them shut, and technically don't need large amounts of force to keep them closed. |

I saw a croc hunter tape a crocs mouth shut..
Apparel they can bite down hard but not up..
I don't know if it's true but some Australians living in the bush keep two pencils in case of attack and go for the eyes of these nasty buggers |
