Den of Iniquity

I was discussing this yesterday and it was intriguing .

So can you pinpoint what your earliest memory from childhood was .

Personally I think its very difficult to do so , but I am willing to be proved wrong

Around 50 of our childhood memories are false memories.

My earliest one is of my sister eating chewing gum - she never eats the stuff and hates it with a passion. She says it never happened.

I shot out and ways tarzaning on the umbilical cord.

On a more serious note. I don't remember much of my childhood as most I blocked out for different reasons. I remember more the people that stuck around and the places I lived.

On a mooch

There’s two that happened around the same time, I was about 3

One is hearing screams from next door and then my dad bolting over the fence to help and next time I see him he’s holding a beheaded snake up

The second was playing with the kids next door, we thought it was a great idea to stand on a homemade cart, to climb onto a metal bar, to climb onto a wall and then jump off.

We’d been doing this for hours and then all of a sudden the cart slips, I go flying and crack my head against the wall. I remember sitting on the bus with my mam trying to stop the bleeding as we went to hospital. I don’t remember the stitches going in, but I do remember them coming out. We were doing it again a week later, without the head cracking

Probably 17 months old going to the hospital when my cousin was born, I can remember crawling under the beds or it could be my elder cousin pulling my dummy out and flushing it down the toilet as she was jealous she no longer had one not sure how old exactly but can’t have been very old as all the pics with a dummy are as a little tot.

I have a memory of laying on the floor at my grandmother's house and watching an enormous animal. I couldn't walk yet and the enormous animal was her cat. My mum tells me I started walking at 11 months so that's from before then.

People always tell me its not possible. Maybe it isn't but it's in my head that's all I know.

I know people with much earlier memories than mine. I think my memory of that brief second is genuine. It's not a world shattering event in fact it's so mundane as to be of no real interest but the surprise and interest I felt at seeing a giant animal stuck with me.

Around 5ish I was at a zoo and being the annoying little turd waffle I was I figured it’d be a great idea to tap on the glass of the chimpanzee enclosure. The fucker waiting till I turned round and full on punched the glass behind me, I think I 50% shit my pants

It’s strange the things you remember, maybe these stay because there was a sense of fear to, so not just one emotion in play to record the memory. Who knows the brain is the strangest thing

I don’t know whether my earliest memories are real or constructed in my imagination.

I have a memory from when I was two years old at New Brighton baths. I was with my Mum and Dad and grandparents. My Dad had decided he was going to dive into the pool from the 10m board. I watched as he went up the ladder and onto the board. Then as he dived in I ran to the pool and jumped in trying to get to him. My Grandad ran after me and as he was about to rescue me I managed to clamber my way to the side to the relief of the rest of the family. I was laughing.

They taught me to swim immediately and ensured I was wearing armbands before I entered the pool area in future.

Unsurprisingly, swimming became my sport
