Been busying myself re-claiming this myself with letters to credit card and banks.

But,,, is it maybe safer to use one of these companys that obviously know 100% how to successfully claim and get you the maximum recovered, its both then in your and their interests to do this?

Or carry on doing it independantly?

independantly... these companies take a massive percentage of the final settlement... and it comes from YOUR money... the bank don't pay them

Why would you pay someone up to 40% of your money to do something you can do yourself?

O o O oo

Someone ( not sure who or which programme now ) said that all they will do is fill out the same form as you and charge you a cut for it....so if you can fill forms in, do it yourself

funny thing, it was a cold call from a ppi reclaim company that got me to do it. They said they take 30% cut. So i asked for forms. Then told them to sod off. With the forms i figured out what actual info i would need and called the bank. 6weeks later i got 3.5k from them for two loans from 1998 and 2001. Would have lost out 1k in commission if i used those companies. Looking back i realised the ppi was more than the interest on the loan itself !! What a scam.

Similar sort of scam about Council Tax re-banding.

A company wrote out to all the houses locally offering to try and get the Council Tax assessment changed, in return for a cut of any rebate. Easy money for doing very little.

Look at it this way, it's like me saying I'll write the letter for you for 30%. Templates are on sites like money supermarket for free and you keep all your money.

Central

It's easy and requires no 'specialist' company - some of whom have been earning £millions - to do it for you.

If someone has problems with forms, get a friend or the CAB to help - you can always give them a donation.
