When do you say “that’s it, no more!”?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I have a very tiny addiction to shoes, it’s not a problem at the mo as I seek therapy (retail, but it still counts) but a certain man, who shall remain nameless, has suggested (well, told me) I don’t need any more!

What do I do? How many is classed as too many? When do you have to accept you may possibly (but unlikely) have enough?

Help needed! (Mainly to back me up, haha)

I can't really make a rational judgement on this because although I'm not that bothered about shoes clothes and coats are my weakness.

I genuinely think I have enough (too many) clothes now and I definitely have enough coats and jackets.

Let's agree that you have enough when you run out of storage space.

There is no such thing as having too many and of course only a man would say such a thing.

My slight addiction (only slight now) is makeup and i get questioned as to why i need so much lipstick (they dont understand about undertones)

so i point out that it keeps me happy and his thing of gathering gym tshirts that he never wears and all is good

Too many is when you reach the point that even just a single pair never gets used.

Get rid and replace! Total never increases but you still get a new pair.

I feel your pain. I have so many gorgeous shoes and boots some I’ve never worn and probably won’t as they are far to high for me to wobble on now. But I can’t bare to part with them, my sister keeps trying to get me to sell them but I just can’t. A bit like some of the size 10 dresses I have

I used to think it was weird but guys are just as bad, they are just all functional; road running, trail running, winter running, hiking, winter hiking, cycling, Mtb, climbing, assent, tennis, squash, work x 4, casual x 6 , flip flops x 3, and I don’t even play man sports like football

Girls need more. If you have less than 50 pairs I think it’s quite normal based on my partner and daughters. 100 or more may be a problem

I have 42 pairs of trainers I keep a fair few still boxed.

Before I logged on here I was online looking at just one more pair. It will never be just one more.

I hope I grow out of it one day as they will be worth more than I paid if I keep them in pristine boxed condition.

I have so many other shoes as well. I wish I knew the answer OP.

When I moved I gave away around 45 pairs of boots and heels to friends and charity, as smaller property, as couldn’t sell them- felt sacrilegious!

I have two wardrobes of dresses, so I feel your pain

Hmmm...I may have a slight problem after all xx

It’s good to know that men also face this problem.

It came about because I saw a pair of black heels that were very similar to ones I have, but with a slight difference- very noticeable if you ask me, but apparently I don’t need anymore.

Good call on the trainers, seen that some brands sell for a fortune!

I’m not well behaved like that though, bought a pair of Jimmy Choos, wore them once for a photo shoot, so didn’t even touch the floor for more than a minute or so as was on a table. Bought them when wearing my New Rocks, so feet were swollen from traipsing round Brum all day- turns out they were a bit too big Sold to a friend, for £70! A loss of £429!! So keep them boxed!! Don’t give into temptation, haha xx

You need at least 2 pairs of comfortable every day shoes so that you always have a choice. You then need a couple of backup comfortable shoes incase anything happens to the original comfortable shoes. You then of course need trainers for running/gym/swimming or whatever other exercise you choose to do or think about partaking in. Don't forget the backup trainers incase anything happens to those.

Then we move onto evening wear, each outfit needs at least 3 shoe options to go with so you don't risk wearing the same omsemble twice too close together. You need a mix of high heels, short heels, stillettos, wedges, sandles, ankle boots, knee highs and of course thigh highs and incase you haven't got the idea already you also need a couple of pairs of back ups for each of those too.

This excuse works wonders for me when "you can never have too many shoes" isn't quite enough. ....you're welcome lol

I’m not allowed to use hers, as I have my own. My brushes cost me £80 but I do admit to using disposable when doing makeup on others or for shoots, as cleaning mine all the time is a mare! There will come a day when she will want pricier brushes too, and then I’ll be in the same boat as you.

"I'm admitting fuck all about my makeup

Haha!! I have more makeup than most make up artists. I just like pretty, and “just in case I need it” makeup xx

same and ive another palette and lipgloss on the way. i even know if purple will suit me or make me look like ive two black eyes but the packaging was to die for

It’s just addictive!! My friend’s just bought two of the new Jeffree Star products for £99!! But they are stunning!! Blood Lust and Mini Purple Bundle xx

My daughter has a better make up draw than me! She has so many really good brushes and loads of Jeffree star pallets, she thinks nothing of spending £100 in morphe , and she fumes if I use any of her stuff apparently I use the wrong brushes and they need cleaning

My 8 year old has more makeup than a few women I know, and as she has sensitive skin it has to be decent brands.

I’m not allowed to use hers, as I have my own. My brushes cost me £80 but I do admit to using disposable when doing makeup on others or for shoots, as cleaning mine all the time is a mare! There will come a day when she will want pricier brushes too, and then I’ll be in the same boat as you.

Kids!! Haha xx

I bought her some morphe brushes as part of her Xmas box £150!!! Nearly died

Ouch!!! I would have too!! xx

Hubs spent 250 on mine lol. blank canvas ones, they are great though to be fair"

Yay to your hubby. I felt aggrieved paying £80. Will pay whatever for shoes though, but actually use the brushes, haha xx

I have a pair of YSL cage heels which I wore once. In immaculate condition and selling on eBay for £500 but I just can’t part with them. . In original box with dust bag and receipt. My daughter keeps trying to borrow them but there’s no way! Maybe when she’s older.

I sold a pair of JC’s to a friend as only wore for a few minutes (for a fraction of what I paid), and gave a pair away, as I bought them on a whim but decided I only wanted vintage kitten heels in the end.

My daughter is always after my shoes. She’s not allowed to touch the vintage ones though as so delicate xx

What do I do? How many is classed as too many? When do you have to accept you may possibly (but unlikely) have enough?

Help needed! (Mainly to back me up, haha)

And why would even consider believing him? Obviously someone who just doesn’t get.... shoes...

I have a few vintage coats (fur) I would never wear now. But they are beautiful. I love vintage wear and iconic pieces. Hence why I want to keep hold of so much of my stuff as when my grandkids are older they will love their Nanna :- D. I have a classic calf leather bomber from all saints and it will never go out of fashion. I think pieces like that are worth investing in

The same. I’ve never actually worn them but a photographer friend gave them to me as I love vintage so much- they were from a family friend. Think my favourite item is a skull cap from the 40’s that I have, it’s just stunning! I also have a jacket from 1905, I’m too big to wear it now, and it’s so delicate it could tear.

Definitely on the jacket xx

Not really gone on the morphe ones. You do get about 40 brushes with their set , which is about average. It’s similar to morphe range. X

Not really gone on the morphe ones. I had a few starting off and i got new ones a couple of months ago and the hairs were falling out withing the first wash and the foundation brush was nowhere near as dense as the original. Mind you the best foundation brush i have tried is from peaches and cream and it was only 5.99

I’ll have to check them out. Want some new ones for my lil one too. She loves watching mummy and mummy’s friends get their make up done for shoots and takes what they say and do onboard. Although her attempt to do contouring on me was a definite miss! She was only six though xx"

My daughter is absolutely amazing at contouring, she is so good at doing eyes as well. She watches tutorials all the time

Oh I love Playful Promises! Today I've ordered a girdle, a few bras with matching knickers and suspender knickers. Their stuff is so beautiful and well made and really fits me beautifully.

I think right now it's lingerie for me. I've been at the size where I could only order beige boulder holders and being able to buy nice stuff that makes me feel sexy is amazing.

Dig a hole in the garden & put him in it?

Apply for a load of credit cards in his name & buy more shoes with them?

Tell him there are worse things to buy.

You can never have too many shoes xxx

Which reminds me that my Blahniks (2nd hand) need their heels looking at

Nearly died

Ouch!!! I would have too!! xx

There are always people wanting make up artists. Lost count of how many shoots and events I’ve been to where they’ve put out calls for them xx

I love Honey Birdette as well, but a sucker for L’agent Provocateur for luxury and Janet Reiger for quality at a reasonable price xx

I have over 40 pairs of shoes, I had to build shelves for them, in a particular room.

- I know I could live with 10 pairs, that would be plenty.

I am making plans to slowly downsize though. Not just the the shoes collection, but all possessions.

-I don't want to turn into that old person that accumulates so much stuff they end up living on their roof. (this situation seems to be getting more common.. )

I have my shed! Haha. I tend to give a lot away tbh. I buy things for shoots etc, as into photography as well, and then tend to give things to the models, which helps as they’re my friends and the same size shoe and close in dress size to me. I get the images I want, they get what they shoot in.

Moving was the best thing for me, as had to downsize, it’s just the temptation to buy shoes is so real!!! Haha xx

All very valid points, and being stored in my memory bank.

I’m only a size three, so even if I wanted to get rid to friends, only a few are my size, so poor me, guess I have to keep them, haha xx

1 year is the cut off point.

If you haven't worn the shoe for a year - get rid of it. Buy new ones !!!
