How often do you drink?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I realise I have slipped into a mode where, should I not be driving late in the evening I'll have most of a bottle of wine of an evening. I think it's a "problem" in the context of it feeling like a default action when my hands are empty, something I want to do, as is eating biscuits, but don't think it's a capital P problem by any means. Chosen to not have anything since Saturday, and that's fine... but it's a deliberate choice, and an exception, not the norm, for me to not have a few drinks of an evening. TBH it often just feels odd to sit and watch TV without a glass in my hand.
How about you? What's a "normal" around these parts? |

We don't really drink at all. S might have the occasional drink if he goes out but I'm always driving. I drank more at our office Xmas do than in the preceding 3yrs combined and I won't be repeating it! |

I only drink socially. When I'm in a couple, I may have a glass of wine or a dram of scotch at night, but by no means every day.
When I'm single, I can go for days without touching a drop.
I did snack a bit, but I've found that playing the guitar whilst watching TV cured me of that! |

I only drink once a week on a Saturday night, at home, I'll have about half a bottle of wine. I drive for a living so it's really the only night I should drink as I'm not working on a Sunday.
If it's a case of just wanting to have a glass in your hand, what about having a non alcoholic beverage? Wines aren't that good but alcohol free beer is pretty good tasting. |

I rarely ever drink, I probably haven’t been d*unk in over a year.
For me, drinking is a social occasion. So I’d have to be at a wedding, birthday or something like that.
Although, I do enjoy beer gardens during a nice hot summers day... |

It's only a problem if its effecting your health, family or work.
When out with friends I enjoy a drink but never have a drink at home in my own company. |

'TBH it often just feels odd to sit and watch TV without a glass in my hand.'
Same here, I drink a glass or two of wine with my dinner and I would feel odd without it.
'I'll have most of a bottle of wine of an evening.'
When you've had a glass or two, stopper the bottle and put it in the fridge where it will keep for a few days. Once you adjust to the new routine, your body shouldn't crave a bottle per day. |

Once a week maybe?
If the weather is nice a cheeky GnT in the garden always goes down well but I cant hack more than three pints or glasses of wine these days and thats on special occasions!
Getting d*unk and hungover doesn’t improve with age! |

Drinking is not even a weekly thing for me, birthdays etc, if I'm out with my friends.
I know a lot of people who have a bottle of wine a night, I think it's an issue but that's probably just because I'm not a drinker myself.
Probably why I'm such a lightweight |

I hardly ever drink alcohol. Every Christmas I succumb to buying a selection of fruit ciders, or fancy liqueurs, and they usually remain unopened. Maybe I'll have a large Baileys or two, that's all. |

I slipped into that kind of routine for a long while. At the end I was at a point where a bottle of scotch wasn't lasting 2 evenings, and on top of that I'd have 4-8 cans of Strongbow, and slightly more than half a bottle of red with my food.
You feel a lot better if you can knock it on the head. |

Probably about 4 nights a week, either a bottle of wine split between two or a few glasses of G&T.
As long as its social or relaxed and not getting wasted then don't see a problem, most people on the continent drink a couple of glasses a day socially and they don't have the issues like over here with drink. |

Top man!
In fairness I was at the doc's the other day and he said I was dehydrated and needed to drink more, so this ones for him |

From experience, if you can identify this now and cut it out, even just a 3/4 days a week that could fantastically beneficial.
I was in your shoes at one time, then the drinking moved on. Or more accurately it moved me on until I had a capital P problem and being able to solve it wasn’t a walk in the park.

OP, have you ever calculated how much alcohol might still be in your system in the morning, if you're driving the next day?
I don't mean that as a preachy question? It helped me cut down A LOT! |

I drink alcohol nearly every day. My tipple of choice is gin and I use a 25ml measure, usually having 1 or occasionally 2 per night. Although I do drink alcohol most nights, I never binge drink or get d*unk and always stay within the guidelines of units per week. |

I hardly ever drink at home. So far this year:
First weekend in January an award presentation do so quite d*unk, 6 or 7 drinks.
3 weeks ago, works do cancelled before Christmas, 3 drinks a bit merry.
This weekend, 3 nights at Butlins so who knows?
I have been out more and not had any drink, I think this is a usual pattern for me.

Some weeks I’ll not have anything, other weeks I’ll have a glass or two most evenings, I just do what I feel like. I very rarely go put socialising so I’m never on big nights out.
Currently having a glass of red.... cheers |

Before Christmas I used to drink daily when indoors. Nothing major, maybe a can of cider or a lager during an evening, and a few additional JDs at the weekend. I've now swapped this for chilled water during the week and just leave my drinking until I'm out for lunch/evening or on a day out with friends or the weekend. At the weekend I'll share maybe half a bottle of red wine over dinner. It's very rare that I get d*unk nowadays. Can't say it's been beneficial but I don't really miss drinking either, as I wasn't drinking enough to become tipsy anyway it was just more about having something to drink. |

I drink at least three times a day.......tea with milk or occasionally green tea with a little cold water to cool it down
Otherwise it’s mainly (bottled) water and the last time I had alcohol was about three weeks ago !! |

Only drink occasionally, when I go out, and then will only be a couple as I have a rubbish tolerance level to alcohol x
Rarely drink at home, not because I don’t agree with it, but just doesn’t seem to happen x

Away for Christmas |
Practically never.
I don't drink, my father was/is an alcoholic so on some level that has just pushed me away from ever wanting to have any.
I have had alcohol but its just not for me, maybe thats subconsciously due to the above or I'm just one of the rare few that don't enjoy it at all. |

One 125ml glass of wine is equivalent to one small slice of a Victoria sponge cake!! Question is.... would you eat half of the cake in one evening? |

Not much at all. I’m a social drinker. I’ll sometimes have a couple at home but only if people are here. I may not have a drink for a couple months then have a night out and have loads. There’s no routine really. |

Before I left my job at Christmas I drank every week day, was my way to get through the afternoon and then relax on the night I didn’t have the lad. I never drink at home (unless have company) and weekend drinking was a rarity.
Since leaving it has automatically returned to social drinking only, as I knew it would. In 3 months I’ve been out three times to catch up with mates. |

Thank you OP for this topic!
I found myself binge drinking at university and getting into some dangerous situations. Ended up in hospital after one episode. Haven’t had a drink in a year and two months |

Hardly at all these days - occasionally I'll have a chilled day or evening with friends where the drinks flow, but I tend to go for long drinks and avoid shots at all costs.
I used to drink a hell of a lot more (10 years of running bars and venues tends to do that!), but I'm a proper lightweight now in comparison! |

"Probs drink 6 bottles a week between the two of us
What? Vodka, whiskey, rum?
"
No!!!! Red wine! And occasional bottle of champagne usually in a hot tub with fab friends ! Do like an occasional single malt or rum when wild camping!

Absolutely agree with OP. Now can't imagine suppet/dinner with out a bottle of wine open. Seems so innocent, so natural to go with a good meal, that's it's usually every night. Time to worry?? |

I rarely drink at all, and even more rarely to excess. Partly because drinking heavily on your own is not s good idea, partly because I don't like me when I'm d*unk. |
