So I’m a bit of a stickler for etiquette, and as such am well aware of the tradition of leaving the bottom button open on a waistcoat- however - I’ve just bought a suit with a double breasted waistcoat...what’s the deal there? Do it up, or not?

"Keep them buttoned up it is usually formal wear. Saying that wear it how you want and don’t be restricted by outdated conventions! " trouble is, a well cut waistcoat is designed to cover the tucked in shirt but also designed so when you sit, it’s comfier with the bottom button undone.

It is permitted to unbutton when sitting, but don’t forget to button it back up.
