I'll be spending a weekend in Lincoln next month, and have been doing some online research as I've never been - a visit to the cathedral and castle is on my list, but there seems to be a plethora of nice places to eat.

Does anyone have any recommendations of things to do and/or favourite restaurants?

Boston, Lincolnshire

There's a nice little alternative shop Salamander, it's just round the corner from the Walkabout pub.

The castle is quite nice too - if you're interested in history at all.

Ooh, I love shops like that, and the castle is definitely on my list.

Thank you x

If you like peanut butter their peanut butter milkshake is immense.

I'm terrible at remembering a lot of the names of places I have family that live there I'll find out and let you know.

The castle walls are good to walk around. Some nice albeit chain restaurants on Brayford. Nice to watch the boats.

Visit the Lincolnshire life museum if you get chance. It has an old ww1 tank. You'll find some nice Cafés to eat on steep hill. They also have a 200c coffee shop. Oh their cosy club looks lovely and a very different theme to Leicester. Angel coffee shop and cafe Aroma is nice. Rising cafe is good to near the brayford pool. All the staff are homeless, former addicts or prostitutes. But as you can see from the reviews, they do an excellent job x

Do the roof tour of the cathedral if you can, although don't think too hard about the repairs in there.

I was going to recommend an awesome coffee shop. Sorry

There are some lovely shops up on Bailgate around the corner from the Cathedral. Lincoln castle is a good place to visit too - it’s home to the Magna Carta and the Richard III sword.

The Electric roof top Bar at the top of the Doubletree Hilton hotel has fab views and great cocktails. Lots of nice restaurants on the marina.

The Engine Shed May have suitable band on depending on the date you’re visiting.

There’s a Ghost Walk at specific times throughout the year.

If you're a history nerd, both generally and re the history of prisons, Lincoln Castle has so much to offer. (It's got the only extant chapel for the separate system of imprisonment, after the one in Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia, was destroyed by bushfire)

With this wind you'll be blown up steep hill no problem.

Hope that no storms coming if you want to go to the Brayford Pool as it has flooded a couple of times recently... You could go paddling and pretend you're by the sea though!

Unfortunately it's not that weekend, or I'd have come along to say hello

Being blown up there looks a darn sight easier than walking up it

Ole Ole Tapas in The Lawn is nice for a spot to eat, or the other tapas in between the Castle and Cathedral good too. Lots of nice pubs in the uphill area.

If it's 14 March by any chance we've got a social that evening

I just remembered - weird how these things become dislodged from the background - how much fun I had in the castle geeking out over various bits of history. The staff were unusually receptive to it, answered all kinds of probably bizarre obscure questions.

That was a good trip.

That's cheating!

The best way to do Steep Hill was via the water slide they did down it a few years ago. Health and safety probably out the kybosh on that though!

Lincoln is lovely- I stay there once a week in the Doubletree Hilton and it’s a great hotel, fantastic home made ice cream place called Daisy Made Farm with its own Drive-through just off the bypass but loads to look at and even has a little alley way called “the Glory Hole”. You won’t be bored

Have a great time.

They’ve got a new Tuck Tuck now you can get a lift up and/or down!

Thought the water slide was a different hill though? Always wanted it to be Steep Hill but they were never that brave, from memory anyway!

They did it down Steep Hill in 2016. It looked great fun but I didn't have time to give it a go. If you google it there is a video of someone going down it on the BBC website - you dont normally willingly go down it at that speed!
