Alcohol with work colleagues

Three weeks into a new job and we are going out for lunch tomorrow and not returning to work. My dilemma, shall I stay on soft drinks so I stay sensible or shall I drink alcohol and be, well, not quite so sensible. I don't get legless and I still stay a nice person with alcohol, just I may let my guard down a little.

I am still in the early days of making a good impression on my bosses and work colleagues.

What would you do?

I’d just be myself.

On a mooch

Be the last to order and see what everyone else is having, if they have alcohol then why shouldn’t you

No alcohol with work colleagues, that’s my rule. There will be plenty who will but it’s just a no in my book, for many reasons

I had a similar dilemma... an ex partners family gathering in Istanbul. Do I drink or not...? One of the cousins was from London and we got on well. I decided to let him set the pace and either drink the same or less than him. The drink of choice was Raki. Luckily for me I can hide being hammered well. Sadly for him, he was all over the place! Worse for me, they then thought I was a closet ragging alcoholic! Whatever happens.... enjoy!

Sounds like a drink will be needed!

Have both.

A little bit of alcohol just to relax you a little but not enough to make you let your guard down too much!

I shy away from alcohol with work colleagues, there's always the potential that something wrong is said

Best way to get to know work people is go out and have a beer with them. Or any alcoholic drink.

I'd say haven't just al couple to be social. If you find stopping at one or two difficult then abstain for the day.

You'll have plenty of time to embarrass yourself later

I always find if you start the drinking it’s difficult to only have one if you start. Pointless having one in many ways.

Its safer to stay sober. Don't want them seeing the 'real me' just yet. Need to stay professional whilst on my probationary period I think.

I'd probably have a minimal amount of alcohol, if others do, that wouldn't affect my judgement and control, much.
