Tomorrow I will be spending about six hours on trains – longer if there are any delays.

What would you suggest I do to keep myself entertained during the journey?

Have sex with a stranger. No one will bat an eye lid unless you light up afterwards.....

This is my dream.

I would delete all the rubbish emails in my inbox.

Read a book.

Find a friend to chat to on WhatsApp

Do some work

Plan a holiday

Listen to music.

Can I come with you it sounds fun?

"Have sex with a stranger."

Well, I can certainly *try*.

"Don't surf on here unless you want to show cock and fanny pics to everyone "

Fortunately, I know how to turn off images in my web browser. Heh.

"Can I come with you it sounds fun?"

While I'd be delighted, it's three hours there, hang around for three hours while I do the thing, then three hours back again. I fear that would require a very specific sort of masochism.

So I'd have 9 hours to delete emails? I might get most of them done in that time!

I'm now on my second train of the day. So far I've caught up on my messages, deleted a load of emails, and eaten half of my packed lunch.

I've been listening to music throughout - I can't bear to go out in public without headphones - and next I'm going to try to update my CV.

Well I guess if you don't want to watch the rolling hills of the countryside going past and seeing interesting things that you haven't seen before going past then you could always try playing angry birds.

I personally quite like train trips.

Going anywhere nice? CV updating can be interesting when you realise how many skills you have actually honed in the current role. Good luck to you! I think Ember is waiting to board at Preston

Sadly it's a journey I'm all too familiar with. It's not even the first time I've seen bits of it flooded! I've spotted one or two nice dogs, though.

Thank you very much. I wish I had as much faith in my capabilities as you do!

I'll try my best to persuade the driver to make a detour!

Mr OP, if you don't have faith in your own skills, others will struggle to have faith in you. Shout your achievements from the rooftops (although this is maybe not advisable on the East Coast Mainline )

Seriously though, ever job you do, however crappy or shortlived, enables you to demonstrate something that you have leaned/developed.

Right now, I'm on the third train of the day, about two and a quarter hours from home.

I took a packed lunch!

I am home now, and all tucked up in bed.

I'm so sorry, Ember – I begged and pleaded with every train driver I could find, but they just wouldn't divert us to Preston. Some rubbish excuses about timetables and set routes or something.

Rubbish excuse. I was freezing on that platform and I've still got 1000s of emails.

The next time I'm trying to get a train driver to redirect to Preston, do I have your permission to use "Ember needs warming up" as persuasion?

You should get a job as a train driver. I think your customer service skills sound excellent.

Another five hours on trains ahead of me this weekend. Still not going anywhere near Preston, sadly.

Well done for making use of the time. I hope that further similar opportunities present themselves to you sooner rather than later.
