Quirky films to fill the afternoon

We saw Parasite last night, absolutely excellent. Wish there were more films like that and fewer space robot alien monster fighty smash smash... but each to their own.

Anything slightly arty and interesting anyone would recommend to fill my afternoon of boredom at work? No subtitles though, can't be that cheeky and pay that much attention to it!

We watched Velvet Goldmine over the weekend. It's a fantasy view of the glam rock era with some pretty big names in it. Ewan McGregor gets his tackle out. It's a very quirky film and it's on Amazon Prime for £1.

I too am bored by space robot alien monster fighty smash smash films. I'm glad to know the genre has a name. I'm going to make a note of it.

There's no speech at all in that is there? Like subtitles, not exactly something to have on in the background!

Not seen that for years. I still think I'd enjoy the "forwards" version of it, as I enjoy the character side more than twists and turns of a crazy plot.

£1 more than I'll be spending... I have my sources :D

Think I'll pass on that one though, as much as it's fun to hurtle back to my university days! I used to dress just like half of them!

"Try The Professor with Johnny Depp. "

"Critics Consensus

A muddled story populated with thinly written characters and arranged around a misguided Johnny Depp performance, The Professor fails early and often.

10%"

JD's lowest starring film rating on all of Rotten Tomatoes... erm.... I'll think about it..? :-/

To be fair, the ending is pretty poor, but there’s lots to smile about in it.

Nope, didn't like Snowpiercer. Sci Fi is so rarely for me. Trying Okja now.

Anything by Wes Anderson. Quirky and ocd arty madness. Plus funny. Rushmore is ace. AND it has Bill Murray in it.

Frances Ha is defo quirky(think Diane Leaton. Sigh..).

For absolutely mental quirky. Or just mental, try The Holy Mountain..

Its not really sci-fi. It's actually a homage/a take on a sequel to Charlie and the chocolate factory.

Try 'Annihilation' with Natalie Portman if you haven't seen it, it's very weird but quite good. Also has one of the most terrifying scenes I've seen in years!

The red turtle is prob one to watch your own, when you can give it attention, yes.

(very good & very original)

As has been mentioned by others on the thread, the shape of water is good.

Have you seen "get out"? that's one you could have in the background..(sort of)

The wife was expecting me to be out this evening, maybe I'll hide in my office and watch it instead!

I watched most of it whilst drinking, and eventually gave up when I had both no idea what was going on, and a strong feeling that, despite the drink, nothing actually WAS going on, as it was as straight forward as it seemed up to that point. I know it goes weird, but more like falling off a cliff edge, right?

Under the Duvet

Saw Queen and Slim last week, thought it was excellent.

Ignore the 'black Bonnie and Clyde' comparisons, it's a thoughtful, thought provoking love story...

I enjoyed it! Slightly anticlimactic ending but worth a watch! He plays a quirky and somewhat eccentrically charismatic Professor but it just made me want to watch Fear and Loathing for the 127th time

Casa Del Fun

Try out ‘The Physician’ on Netflix.

Good movie without all the bells and whistles.

Very interesting storyline that will get you hooked straight away
