....leg. Look away now if shameless self-pity posts are not your cuppa, because this is probably not for you.
I (N) have nerve damage affecting my leg and over the last week and a half, the pain has flared massively and I've been off work. Seriously bored at home, best way to be is lying down on my right side but I can't live like that (well, I did for a month once, nearly lost the plot!)
My foot is a ridiculous colour, the GP just said my condition is too complex for her to deal with and so it's sit and wait until it eases. I know shit is hitting the fan at work and I hate being off!
And do you know one activity I can still do and takes my mind off it (so long as I'm not weight bearing)? Yes, that

Watch telly, erm Sudoku?
If your leg is a funny colour I think you should see someone else. Waiting for nerve pain to ease off is like asking someone to wait for their amputated let to grow back instead of giving them a false one.
I truly empathise, both of us do, nerve pain is no joke. I have permanent numbness in my right leg and intermittent excruciating pain in my toes in part because a doctor advised me to "soldier on".
Best wishes |

Its been a funny colour on and off for 3yrs. I've seen all the specialists and they just go round in circles and disagree with each other. Best diagnosis is lumbosacral plexus nerve injury. Yes, I have numbness and other altered sensation permanently too. 3yrs on, you think I'd have learned to tolerate it? The restrictions it causes frustrates me so much
Thank you for your kind words. |

I'm over 9 years on and I can tolerate the numbness but I find it difficult to tolerate the sudden onset of pain in my toes with no warning, especially when they've been numb for some time. It's usually when I'm walking along the street. Mr N is in constant pain and has just (after asking several) been referred to a pain clinic.
I think the problem is that nerve pain is so difficult to treat. Have you tried a tens unit? It did help me, I used to walk round at work with the pads on my leg.
Hope it "wears off" soon |

Yeah I've tried TENS but it doesn't work. My injury is in my pelvis so it seems hard to target the damaged area. I gave up on much walking for the reason you describe - getting my wheelchair was the best thing I did for a long time. I can now go for miles and miles without aggravating my leg. Not everyone sees it as positive though
I have total empathy for both of you, nerve pain is awful. |

I have to say that you're probably in a much worse position than either of us.
I had surgery nine years ago which has been really successful.
If a wheelchair enables mobility and independence I don't think of it as anything but positive. |
