I was prescribed them a couple of years ago for extreme anxiety. They helped me much more than any more traditional anxiolytic medications I had tried in the past. I was on a low dose and it really helped...

Quite a few blood pressure medications including beta blockers can affect erectile functioning. It often depends on the dose and other factors too. I know amlodopine affects me but have never taken beta-blockers.

Yep my son was prescribed propranolol for anxiety. He hated the side effects and stopped using them very quickly and learned manage his anxiety naturally through meditation instead.

Yeah my mum does although when I took her to the doctors the other day her blood pressure was high and this doctor said I can’t believe you’re on atenolol that’s a really old one. He changed it to another.

Oh yes. Realised that when I went private with my daughter. All of a sudden after 11 years she suddenly had meds that changed hers and all our lives and a proper diagnosis.

As a female i can't help much but i know it's one of the side effects. Probably best to see your GP again and swap to something else.

I took them for a very short time due to getting migraines but they badly affected my asthma so had to stop.

Good luck x

I’m on bisoprolol and don’t think that it has had any particular effect in that dept OP. I’m at that age where it happens from time to time and accept it as just that. If you are on a cocktail already I don’t know how it would effect you though, we’re all a bit different so can only speak of my own experience, if that helps.

Can understand your natural concerns though.

Been prescribed Propanolol in the past for Anxiety/Panic attacks. Didn’t think they were very effective at the time but in hindsight they did help a bit.

I've been on propanalol. They ruined my libido and meant I couldn't stay fit, but were great for my anxiety.

I use mindfulness meditation now.

If you’re being sarcastic- what an idiot.

If it is a genuine question- no, taking the beta blockers did not hinder my sexual appetite or performance. My clitoris could still be engorged and erect and responsive.

Get what you’re saying there, but if I had knowledge of a particular side effect it would prompt me to ask the quack if there was a suitable alternative that didn’t have that side effect. If not, as you say, you have to prioritise

Have you thought about actually speaking to a professional about this??

Beta blockers can be used for many things and we don't know your medical history or what medications you're on.

Speak to your doctor. If you're having ED there's ways to help but if you're taking propanol for blood pressure you shouldn't be taking Viagra.

If you're taking them for migraines or anxiety there's other options than propanol.

I think these conversations can be important to have. Treatment has to be something you can live with, including psychologically.

Propanalol did tank my libido and did make physical activity/ weight loss difficult, but it was a sacrifice that was worth making for me at that time. Others will determine the pros and cons differently to me.

I take 3.75mg of bisoprolol for a heart condition. It does lower my blood pressure so it's possible that could have an effect. Ideally they wanted to give me a higher dose but were worried about fainting by lowering my blood pressure too much. It's also given me mild circulation issues so I get some minor fluid retention in my legs. So to be honest I can see how it could cause erection issues so it might be worth speaking to your doctor about. It depends what beta blockers you take though and what for as different ones have different effects and are used for different purposes.

couple, us we him her.

Ok it's in relation to heart and blood pressure issues.

As for health being more important than getting my end away.

Actually I kind of disagree in a way.

Look sex has always played a massive part in our relationship we have always had an amazing sex life and swinging has enhanced this, we both also like to keep very fit and active.

If the two things that I pretty much enjoy the most in life from a leisure point of view are taken away it's really going to effect my mental well-being.

I'm not saying sex is everything but intimacy and love making are very important to a healthy relationship.

Yes we can cuddle but it's not the same.

I have already sacrificed drinking and eating stuff I enjoy .

Spent most of my adult life taking care of my health by staying fit and eating healthy and it's literally got me nowhere other than fucked up joints and constantly watching what I eat.

Sex is literally one of the few actually indulgent pleasures I still have.

So whilst it seems like an easy choice, live and take tablet's or don't take them enjoy sex but run the risk of dropping dead!

The actual reality is the decision it's that simple.

But I thank everyone for their feedback and suggestions.

I think I need to speak to GP and pharmacist to see if other options.

This is exactly the situation I am in, I am currently taking 5 different medicines including Bisoprol as a beta blocker, seemingly Bisoprol is compatable with Viagra, one of my other medicines is not, at my age I am dependent on Viagra to get an erection so have erred on the side of caution and put sex on the back burner. Am due to see my consultant in early March so will try to get some form of clarification on whether or not I can use Cialis in lieu of Viagra.

I totally get you. Antidepressants made me almost totally numb between the legs and it was depressing as hell. It didn't help that they also triggered some minor mania type symptoms in me including hypersexuality. So I was immensely horny all the time but could get no release. That's a special kind of torture. Our sex lives are an important part of our lives to many of us and I have found that doctors understand this and are often surprisingly understanding when it comes to sexual side effects of medication, as embarrassing as it can be to talk to them about it.

Anyone considering taking Viagra should definitely consultant a medical professional first to ensure that it's safe .

It's not a recreational drug.
