I was just wondering if many other ladies on here suffer from UTI's after having sex ? Im diabetic so prone to getting them so was wondering what the other ladies do to avoid getting a uti ? even using condoms I still can get them Ive looked online at the nhs site and it says they are not the same as a sti and men rarley get them it said 1 in 2000 men can suffer with them once a year |

Hi Molly, with my thieving, sneaky, arsewipe cnut of an ex I ended up with cystitis 9 times outta 10 if we shagged without a condom so we went onto condoms and I was fine from then on in, and obviously even better now that the twunt is out of my life and I play safe all the time.....the advice I got from my Dr (once he realised that 40+ single women still had sex!!!) was to always try and pee before and after sex to swish away any lurking bacteria (his words, he was a bit of a character!) I still have a prescription for Trimotheprim which is usually the antibiotic of choice for cystitis just in case but I have only had one occurrence since I've been swinging after a particularly rough,(but safe) session a while ago....hope this helps as UTI's are a fecking nightmare ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

There is not a delicate way to put this... cystitis used to be referred to as the honeymoon disease cos women got it after a good hard fucking...i suffered at uni after not seeing kev over the Easter Hols...ended up in hospital...
It may be happening with new partners because you havnt had any for a bit...lube would be my suggestion...
And remember they are not stds.
Hope this helps ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Def not stds
Women get them more easily than men because the urethra is shorter and therefore its easier for bacteria to get into the bladder
Some people are more prone to them than others and obviously because of the diabetes that causes you an extra problem
Should drink plenty of fluids when you have an attack but its a good idea anyway
Cranberry juice is good, some of the over the counter products like Cystopurin work for some people but not so good for others
Rigorous sex can set it off but not always - if this is one of the factors for you lube might help
Pee before and after sex
When you have a wee make sure you wipe front to back and be very careful if you have anal so that bacteria doesnt get transmitted that way
Wet wipes or other perfumed products can exacerbate things so best avoided |

You're much better to use moist toilet tissues than baby wipes. Baby wipes really irritate me so I wouldn't recommend them.
Other than that lots of cranberry. It's worth having a chat with your local herbalists to see if you could take q supplement since most cranberry juice is heavily sweetened.
Also check what condoms you're using. NEVER use ones with nonoxynol 9 on (eg durex extra safe). Check the NHS online advice about the stuff! It triggers both my eczema internally which makes me bleed and also thrush ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

Wipes wont do anything to help and might just add to the irritation. Personally Id just stick to a bit of soap and water...or better still just water
A warm bath can help with the ache too |

I used to suffer with this many years ago. It was discovered after having to drink this horrible dye and having an ultra sound. The cause was that my bladder was releasing the fluid, but closing before the bladder was completely empty, causing a vaccum and allowing some of the fluid to go back into the the bladder, taking the germs that live just out the bladder back inside. Thus causeing UTI and sometimes kidney infection.
The advice they gave me was to sit on the toilet the wrong way round!!!! Sitting astride the toilet causes the bladder to empty better. Been doing this ever since and not had another UTI!!!!! |

Lol well like I saud its amazing what you can pick up from the forums youd of never of thought sitting on the loo the wrong way round would help with a uti lol . Ive just been on the Holland and Barret site and ordered some Cranberry tablets which will probably be better for me than the juice seeing the juice has a lot of sugar in it . They have a good deal on H&B at the moment buy and item and get the 2nd for a penny so just stocked up on cod liver oil tablets Alo Vera colon cleanser and the cranberry tabs lol ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

UTI's are fairly common for ladies, especially with lots of vigorous sex. Make sure that your man is not touching around your bottom and pushing fingers inside your vagina as bacteria is easily transferred from anus to vagina.
If you keep getting regular attacks then ask your GP if he/she can put you on a continuous low dose of antibiotic, obviously this will depend on interraction with your diabetic medication. ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Not a lot I can do except to refrain from having sex!
I did think about requesting for a spare short course of antibiotics when I had it last, to save on the hassle of going to the walk-in treatment centre over a weekend, prescription charge etc. etc...
Then I thought against it, as the blooming tablets are likely to expire before I have the chance to have sex again, just like the condoms.

Bless ya ... I feel your pain. I tried everything but suffered so badly that it looked like I was going to have to become a vestal virgin
But a kind GP took pity and put me on a low dose of Trimethoprim... Some people turn over and have a ciggie...I roll over and pop a pill. Not had a UTI for a year and at it like rabbits again.
Good luck with getting it sorted

Mrs here, just want to say that I've found this thread really helpful. I too am diabetic and prone to suffering from uti's after a good hard session. Gonna look into cranberry supplements from Holland and barrett, as the juice makes my blood sugar go haywire. Xx |

if it is a benign heart murmur it will make no difference to you. They are quite common and are only discovered due to the advanced equipment used these days. I have one but didn't know I had it until I was 38 years old. |

A pharmacist once recommended that I should get a bottle of misc potassium citrate - its the active ingredient in cystitis medication. It tastes vile, but works much quicker than the sachets do.
This relieves the symptoms of utis and also helps when its not an actual infection but is caused by having a battered urinary tract.
* Unfortunately, like the cystitis sachets I don't think this is suitable for diabetics who have kidney issues... |

Sex is a very common cause of urinary tract infections in women. From what i understand it's not so much the frequency but the act in itself. The fact that you have sex often only increases your chances.
The reason sex can cause infections is due to the fact that during penetration you're allowing bacteria to enter.
The best way to help stop this problem occurring is to make sure you urinate as soon as possible after having sex.
Also make sure you don't "hold on" too long even if you haven't had sex. Holding on rather than urinating when you need to encourages bacteria growth.
*Fluid intake of at least 2 litres per day
*Regular emptying of bladder : 3-hourly intervals by day and before bedtime
*Complete emptying of the bladder at each micturition
*Double micturition before retiring for the night: empty the bladder and then attempt to empty the bladder a second time 15 minutes later.
*Empty bladder before and after intercourse
