Evening. If anyone else is into chains / restraints etc, when I popped into lidl this evening, their current deal includes packs of certified caribeners with various numbers in a pack rated at various weights for 3/4 pounds a pack. I’m not sure I’d trust them for full suspension, but certainly worth a punt... I got 10 rated at 50kg for 3.99 I think it was. I’m going to pop back tomorrow and get a few more! |

I was going to get some today to hang things in the rat cage. My son just looked at me like I'd lost the plot so I put them back |

My understanding is that caribiners should be rated in Kilo Newtons kN (force in motion) and have the kN and the certification stamp of quality (CE) or (UIAA). The weight of the caribiners unless you are climbing Everest is not critical.
Speaking to my relatives that climb you don't need the premier kit, but you do need kit from manufacturers that you can trust for climbing gear. I use Decathlon climbing caribiners myself.
To be honest 50 kg does not compute because as mentioned caribibers have to deal with force in motion KN and not static weight.
But as Lidl does the best croissants, and also the best chocolate doughnuts, I may visit my local Lidl in the afternoon.

That’s was my point entirely... I would NOT use them for suspension, but for general restraining purposes, where it would only spoil the fun if they failed, they are certainly worth a punt! |
