Typo, Lazy or Dyslexic

So... (deep breath)
Every so often I send a sarcastic reply to someone who (despite the spellcheck function) sends messages full of spelling errors.
More than half of those who reply say "sorry I am dyslexic" They always manage to spell Dyslexic!
Clearly that is wrong and offence to people who have a genuine dyslexic trait.
Most of us struggle with spelling to some extent. English is not an easy language.
Am I being harth?

You don't know that they're not dyslexic. I think messaging people to pull them up on their spelling is at best mean spirited. What does it achieve? If they cant be bothered to spell correctly they won't care and if they struggle with spelling or are dyslexic you'll make them feel like shit. Genuinely curious what you think it achieves or how it makes you feel? |

"I'm dyslexic and yes I can easily spell it as it doesn't bear any similarities to other words. Plus the spell checker won't correct it to a similar word so I won't see the difference. "
I'm also dyslexic; however people will not know this without me letting them know. I've learnt other techniques than what others have used, it's not a fact of struggling to just spell but it's also the mindset we have. We often have to find alternative paths or solutions, and this leads us to a good majority being quite intelligent. |

Definitely the amount of times I have to restart a sentence as I can't spell the word I want. Thankfully my vocabulary is extensive so can usually work around it. |

Hahaha, snap! Or my other favourite is when I know the word I want to write but even spell checker can't help me - so then I go using a thesaurus for an alternative word to the same meaning until I find the word I wanted to use |

I'm dyslexic it only becomes more noticeable the more mentally tired I get. It's hard work remembering all the tricks for spelling. Spellcheck and autocorrect are a royal pain in the ass especially if it's American dictionary it uses before UK English. The size of the dictionary content is limited to most used words.
So things like erogenous and cunnilingus aren't in the database of the mobiles or even desktop spell checkers.
One word can be spelt 5 different ways and 1 is right yet they can all look right and wrong at the same time.
Then English language tricks don't apply to all words so you have to try remember the exact spelling because the I before e except after c doesn't work for everything. The y's ies' it's all confusing for a dyslexic but with time and effort it's manageable and people rarely notice mistakes anyway
For some it's pure laziness others lack of knowledge and some actually are dyslexic. |

None of us who have dyslexia are victims? We're blessed. |

I'm another dyslexic to add to the mix, although I agree with everything the others have said I'd add this...
1. The first thing I learnt on diagnosis was how to spell the word. When you're having to let people know, you learn the right word and the right spelling, for me, that's phonetic so in my head the word doesn't sound how I actually say it outloud.
2. I work damn hard to ensure that my written word reads as well as it can, and matches my verbal ability. That takes time and effort and isn't as possible when I'm tired so can get worse. So some people may be tied... I do wonder how many people use it as an excuse to not make any effort though. |

"Y ya bovered about ppls spellings we are here to fuck not read lol if I wanted to do that I'd go 2 da library ??????????"
Because the main sexual organ in the human body is the brain and having to spend way more time than is necessary to decipher what someone has written is a turn off. |

Absolutely 100% spot on. Thank you for understanding.
