Shops own brand/ food

This morning in Tesco I was picking up a Tesco pizza well it was on offer. Anyway some guy said to me I wouldn't buy that rubbish. After having a quick look around to make sure he was talking to me.I asked why ? he said it was cheap shit.
I still walked away with two.
When i looked into my cupboards when putting the shopping away i noticed a few Tesco brands plus Asda and lidls.i seem to buy a lot of shops own brands.
Yet again I remember the Tesco yellow packs
And the government giving out free white tins of mince or strewing steak to people who wasn't working.
So do you by the cheap brand or only the expensive ?
Or like me a mix of both |

A mix of both. Unless you've tried it you don't know the taste or quality and some own brand is better than named .
I knew a woman once who sneered at me because I bought a cashmere sweater in Tesco  . Cashmere is cashmere wherever you buy it |

The only branded stuff I tend to buy is chocolate, coffee and alcohol. I can't really taste much or any difference with most things, you're just paying extra for fancier packaging and advertising. |

I buy a mix of own brand and branded once I've decided which I prefer the best. I also do the same with supermarkets and have certain items that I prefer to buy from a particular store.
My real gripe with this is when a particular favourite choice goes out of production/no longer unavailable. I find Aldi particularly bad at this. |

Don't get me started I love a good clothes sale.I was in Asda clothing store in Belfast before Christmas and they had a gold silk blend woollen polo neck jumper
So soft and warm. And it's not been of me.
£5 they was over £50 the week before. The very last on in a size 24.
There was a wee hole at the neck but it's a polo neck you couldn't see it as it was on the inside of the neck.
And no one seems to notice that it's female.  |

l find Lidl does it all the time. You find something really nice like the kebab pizza and they stopped selling it. |

Yes I buy a mix, certain things I won’t buy as they just don’t taste as good or aren’t good value like cornflakes but if it tastes as good and is cheaper then I’m ok with that x |

I worked in a food factory for years.
The food came in different sizes.
The big size went into the expensive tin
The minimum the next.
And the stuff that was to small or they had to much big and minimum for the order. Was put into the cheapest tins.
All came from the same farmer and all tinned on the same production line just with different tins a labels. |

I grew up on the 'No Frills' range that Kwik Save used to sell as my parents didn't have a lot of cash, but I remember it being poor quality rubbish a lot of the time and I only ate it as going hungry was the other option. Nowadays I don't mind buying shops own brand stuff but only when it's their 'best' range like in Morrisons or 'extra special' in Asda. Otherwise I go for the branded stuff. |

I once saw 'powdered sausage' in kwik save.
I was so intrigued I bought it.
Mixing cold water and powder together to end up with sausage was weird.
Was disgusting.

Aldi own brand are often the closest of all the supermarkets in taste to the well known alternatives. |

Most of shops own brand stuff is made for them by the same companies that produce the branded stuff.
The chap who described it as 'rubbish' sounds to me like an uneducated snob.
Who does he think he is presuming to tell you what you should or shouldn't buy.

I only shop local & fresh i want to know where my meat originated so all my meat is from a butchers, fruit & veg from the grocers, bread from the bakery. I maybe go to tesco/aldi once a month maybe |

I do most of the shopping at Aldi.
Started out of curiosity but then became the norm. I actually prefer the lack of range. The quality is good and it saves time- you don't need to decide which type of beans you want from a choice of 8!
Quality is generally as good or in most cases,better than big brands or bigger supermarkets.
I also quite like racing the checkout staff- can I pack it before it gets pushed over the edge! |

Sometimes the own brand stuff is better than the expensive stuff! Especially Aldi - I prefer a lot of their stuff, and dont need an entire aisle of tea bags in Tesco! |

I was going to say this too. You'd be surprised if you knew what 'branded' foods are identical to 'supermarket branded' ones.
